Dhoni is the BEST
by venkat on Feb 27, 2013 09:27 PM  | Hide replies

Someone said Sourav is the most assertive & stratagically better captain. I beg to differ as I don't think yelling & gesturing is only a tiny part of assertiveness. As for stategy, we know what SOurav lacked. As for records, Sourav has 9 wins against ZIM & BAN with a loss against ZIM. Dhoni never had the same fabled batting or bowling resources. I agrre Sourav was a GOOD captain, but not the BEST compared to Dhoni.

Dhoni never captained against Steve Waugh, Mcgrath, Warne, Ponting, Gilly etc.. But Saurav did that. No doubt Saurav is the best captain. Dhoni is a good captain

only idiotic fools in india think that captain brings any cup.
If captain has potential to bring cup, then how after winning 1st T-20 wcup, India out in 1st round of next 3 consecutive t-20 wcups loosing all matches under same captain.
Its no. & form of match winner players, quality of opposition & pitch conditions which decide any match & not captaincy

Dhoni is the greatest ever
by Gurjot Singh on Feb 27, 2013 08:54 PM  | Hide replies

India was down on its knees after disasteous tor of Englnd and Australia. Now everything looks bright. We are at the top ODI and T2 ranking. Only team between us and number one test ranking is South Africa. We will eventually beat them when we meet.
True measure of greatness is how you face and overcome adversity. Dhoni is way ahead on that count. Also all the great stars except SRT are gone and Dhoni has performed to overcome these losses.

First tell me if Dhoni's deserves place in T20 at all

Mat Inns NO Runs HS Ave BF SR 100 50

T20Is 42 39 15 748 48* 31.16 651 114.90 0 0

Does dhoni deserver a place in T20's with strike rate of 114. Dhoni's average is misleading as he comes down the order.

Y are right.
Dhoni is the worst T-20 & test player who could play these formats for so many years without any performnace with bat

Your comments accentuate your zero cricketing knowledge, name one formidable and consistent INTERNATIONAL team, you are looking at false egos of beating perhaps the weakest Australian side ever in history (Sub-cont conditions), we lost against same ENGLAND side which was comfortably outplayed by weaker pakistan team (UAE)....INDIAN team never has history of struggling against Legendary spinners of the world(Warne,Murali,Saqlain) etc but we are even struggling against quality spinners like Swan,Ajmal, panesar etc, unsettled opening, unsettled 6 or 7, we do not even one quality pace or spin bowler who can do well in all conditions

Going by your own statement "true measure of greatness...etc" ganguly took captaincy when INDIA is going through adversity struggling against Match fixing and struggling overseas...Australia is at it peak dominating the world, SA is formiddable second to AUS, strong pakistan & srilankan teams stuffed legends of the game, ENGLAND is also force to reckon.....Ganguly's team is against batting & bowling legends of the game....

So, according to your two posts, India was winning left & right under adverse conditions with no name team. Wake man. Would you ever imagine Australia or SA making Perth or Wanderers as slow turning or batsmen friendly pitch against India/Pak/SL just because they want to show they can win against them...I don't understand this self-blaming, self-defeating attitude of us Indians.

Aus wont make turning track in Perth. Same way India made turning track against Eng and this Dhoni could not win the match in home with tailor made pitch. Shame Shame.

Dhoni is just a good captain. Dada is the best Captain

Ganguly by far the best strategist as a captain
by vaibhav kumar on Feb 27, 2013 08:04 PM

There is no comparision in a shrewed and strategist leaderrship of Ganguly versus Dhoni. Ganguly was far more better an attacking and assertive leader than Dhoni.

Records speak most of the times and in that accord both are similar. But GANGULY captained INDIA with Aussies at their best, South Africa and England, Pakistan and Even Newzealand were better teams.

Dhoni captained India, when the world cricket is going thru a mediocrity and the levels of competition is not that fierce. Sure, Dhoni's achievements are great, but he is second to Ganguly, in terms of CREATING strategic situations and showing innovation.

Both have done India pround, but Dhoni has been quite conservative and fortunate to have mediocre world cricket to add on to his achievement.

Feel free to differ though.

reality check India lost 3 test under Dhoni in Aus and 4 in a row against England on away tors data over here does not match that.... neways Ganguly was a much better captain with lots of heart no issues with Bhoni either.

I still consider Ganguly better captain in Tests because he was instrumental in imbibing dynamism in to the Team and grought to winningways. But we can not discard Dhoni as a Test captain as he is learning the art of Test Captaincy and has the potential to become alltime Great captain.

rediff is too much
by Prashant K on Feb 27, 2013 07:27 PM  | Hide replies

after having got drubbings in england at home and away, after having got drubbings in australia and that too a white wash....now with one win we have entirely forgotten that we have lost 8-9 tests in a row. in fact australia did so well with such a new look team that they extended the test till the 5th day. also with a centurion in the first test itself...the entire team is comprising of new players who have less than 15-16 tests experience except maybe Clarke, Watson and Lyon...and with this type of team i think they have done extremely well.
