the data is wrong. what about 4-0 loss in England ? Also Dada played gainst greatest Aussie Teams. Dhoni lost 4-0 against the weakest Aussie team in the decade.

stats vs australia are correct rajiv. last match was captained by Sehwag.
2 matches won and 6 matches lost against England. They are swapped. But yes, India lost against the weakest Aussie team. In the Melbourne match the batting as usual collapsed after a good partnership between Sachin/Dravid. 2nd innings we could have been chasing a lesser target if the field was not set in a defensive mode. A win in Melbourne could have done much to gain confidence, but sadly it went the other way.

your records of Dhoni are faulty. Where is 4-0 loss in England under Dhoni included ?

parikh's post is also paid :)

India lost 4-0 and not 40 in England lead by Dhoni.
India lost 3-0 lead by Dhoni and 1-0 lead by Sehwag in Australia.

Always and forever Ganguly hands down.
by arun venkata on Feb 28, 2013 04:02 AM  | Hide replies

Ganguly created a team. Put fire in the bellies of the players. Ignited passion and brought some pride and self respect to the team. Dhoni was just lucky to carry it forward. Yes he is good that he was able to carry it forward but it would have been impossible for him to do what Ganguly did.

Arun,

Ganguly was a great captain.

But, you cannot say that Ganguly created the team and Dhoni is carrying it forward... Dhoni won a T20 World Cup with a completely fresh team... Dhoni is a great captain too. No Indian captain has won 2 world cups.

Comparison between apples and oranges
by murty ram on Feb 28, 2013 12:26 AM  | Hide replies

I would not compare Ganguly with any other Indian captain. He is the best captain India can ever produce.

He had gigantic teams as opponents; Australia(the BEST CRICKET team in the history of the game), South Africa, England, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Pakistan. After Tendulkar left captaincy, it was handed over to Dada. Dada built a team which forced team India to the top ranks. It was done so strategically(keeping a great Indian team) that Dhoni or the future captains would reap the fruits. Ganguly is a Legendary captain and Dhoni is a good captain. There is no comparison.

agreed, he was instrumental in building the team in a great winning unit while Dhoni was till now playing with established veterans and experienced players and won against Australian team lacking likes of Ponting, McGrath and Warne. Ganguly is so far the best captain

only idiotic fools in india think that captain brings any cup.
If captain has potential to bring cup, then how after winning 1st T-20 wcup, India out in 1st round of next 3 consecutive t-20 wcups loosing all matches under same captain.
Its no. & form of match winner players, quality of opposition & pitch conditions which decide any match & not captaincy

I think both are good enough to be called good captains. The only person who lacked captainship calibre is TENDULKAR, with all his recordshecould not be a good captain because he was always for records
