Really good comments and summary. This is too much. Sachin should go retire now or give him forceable retirement.

Sachin has always been a over rated player..he could hardly play good cricket against walsh, ambrose, mcgrath, donald etc. (now pls tendu fans - dont say he hit em for 6s in one odd innings..)..in close to 190 test matches he has kust got 4 man of the match awards in overseas tests...and how many tests has he won for india?? and today cricket has become batsman's game..tendulkar is not even half of gavaskar in terms of batting pedigree...he played without guards..on green pitches against some of the most feared bowlers when there was no limit on bouncers...

there is nothing wrong in what Imran said

India has lost 8 matches on a trot and it is a great shame, world champs are not supposed to lsoe 8 on a trot, also, many of the matches ended on the 4th day itself!!My dad used to say that the best indian batsman of those days, Visvanath played 3 bad matches( he had a fifty and a couple of 30s) and was dropped and never came back..he still had good 3 years in him..sachin has been flop in all test matches barring a 80 in sydney, he could not prevent india having a whitewash, he must have retired with his head held high after the world cup..he has made enough name and fame and money....oh iam sure that India will play bangladesh or Zimbabwe or new zealand and sachin and dravid and laxman and sehwag and gautam will score heavily and our cricket mad public will forget all..
facts r facts,.,this world champ Indian team has humiliated us...

I personally feel that no one has right to advice Sachin on his retirement. Remember what happened to Ian Chappel? Hope Imran also takes back his words soon

Rediff is also a Sachin fanatic :)
Whenever we want to say something about Sachin, it has an error, or is deleted. When u replace his name with someone else, no problem :)

Retirement...
by Anurag Rathore on Jan 31, 2012 03:59 PM  | Hide replies

Retirement is a personal decision for a person. Nobody can force it. If a player is not performing well just drop him, why to ask for retirement?

Uncle, u r right. But in this case, atleast 7-8 players in the team need to be dropped. Does BCCI have the guts to do that?

It's upto selectors. BCCI don't have any role in it.

retirement could be a personnel decision. but, dropping a player for bad performance is in the hands of selectors and they should execute it.

All in a sudden of retirement will affect the sponsors and their investments they bet on their players. For example Sachin has a contract with a Japanese advertisement company for Crores and Crores as investment. A sudden retirement will spoil this contract. Moreover cricket is not that much important in India because it is also not a national game to be worried too much.
Its a commercial sport and money matters here. We are saying that Dravid is unfit for 50 Overmatch but for an IPL like match Dravid is showing himself as a best fit when money matters.
Cricket is just an entertainment game and no need to bother about too much for giving any opportunities for younger cricketers. If that is the case the richest cricketer in the world Sachin knows better than others. Hence personal records matters the most.

Take it in good sense guys!
by Linhg on Jan 31, 2012 03:40 PM  | Hide replies

Take it in good sense guys! If he had retired after world cup, we would have remembered him for that and we will think that he should have played more. But see what happens to Laxman now. Every body wants to throw him away! Remember Jayasuriya! Do we want to see that happen for Sachin? See Bradman. He retired at an avge of 99. We all remember him for that too. That's what he mean. I also don't want Sachin to retire now.

Friend, whether u want him or not the decision is left to him to retire. U may speak against him, someone may speak for him. He is the best person to judge his retirement. As Imran said above, "He has to decide for himself and he must time it right".
