In some months before in this colum,I have requsted all, please dont allow to play Mr.Sree Shant & Mr.Ishant Sharma. Why we want to loose matches for keeping these..............You can check last 8 matches what ishant done? How many overs he bowled and how many wickets he got.30-40 overs,a fast bowler not a wicket.Even gally boys will get 2-3 wicket.Alas.Cricket board must stick to the form. Not the name, then only Indian cricket will come on top.Axe ishant,Laxman,Dhoni till find their form.Alas Mera Bharat mahan and national game Cricket......

The "good" bowlers I can remember from around 2 decades are Kapil Dev, Srinath & Zaheer (but none could consistently intimidate the opposition)

Jiju: tell me honestly. can u compare the above 3 u mentioned to someone like Curtly Ambrose, Walsh, McGrath, Marshall, Holding, Lillee, Thompson, Akram, Younis etc...

SRTFan, as I told, they are just "good" bowlers and not quite intimidating. From 2 decades, we have seen only 3 "good" bowlers. Thats really unfortunate.

good bowlers can't win matches frequently on overseas soil.. What u need is 50 percent good and 50 percent intimidation... What is a fast bowler if he cannot invoke fear in the minds of batsman.... Just look how aussies tamely surrendered to Curtly Ambrose on their own soil.... I remember once waugh brothers saying
curtly is 6'7" and when he approaches the landing area the ball is delivered from a height of more than 12 feet. That's really frightening to even think of.. I do not know how batsmen of his era faced this giant... forget indian bowlers (who r never known for any quality). do we have a bowler of that calibre in world cricket today... I doubt... There r steyns, morkels etc but none of them are even 5 percent of what ambrose was in his hey days. he was a terr0r on the field.... I do not think India can ever produce such a bowler bcoz we do not have it in our genes to have that kind of a physique 2b a intimidating pace bowler..

Rightly said SRTFAN..... On one end, Ambrose with his terror unleashing, the other end with Walsh. They were the last Quality bowlers I remember.

You have not seen Kapil, I am sure! Otherwise you will never write like that! Kapil was a medium pace bowler who relied on swing and accuracy, rather than pace. If we had Kapil or somebody copied what he had done in Aus even in his last series there in 1991, we would have won this series in spite of batting failures!

jay: i am not saying kapil is a bad bowler... he is still india's best pace bowler... what I am saying is he cannot be compared to the ones I have mentioned... they r a different class together and unless and until india produce those kind of pacers it will always be difficult for us to win games away against quality opposition..

And, can any of the bowlers you mentioned ever bowl 31 overs from one end throughut an innings like Kapil did in the Ahmedabad in 1983? Never, so never try to cmpare our legendary allrounder with these great fast bowlers just in terms of speed!

hahahaha.. jay, they never needed to bowl 31 overs.... during his hey days, ambrose used to pick 5 wickets within 12-13 overs...

Ambrose would be accurate at best, but was never that lethal in Indian pitches! I don't think you have an idea of what had happened those days! Forget it, come to recent times, Steyn and co were hammered by Sehwag for a triple century in almost a day, and they toiled all day in the sun for a wicket!

jay: what r speaking of indian pitches.... real test cricket in not in sub-continent, but outside it... Indian pitches were/are/never will be a yardstick for any good cricketer's performance....
Sad that WI cricket has fallen these days, else if they had the talent of 70's and 80's, Australia would not have danced for such a long time... they would have been steamrolled..
and yes that slogger sehwag, who u speak of so endearingly cannot survive couple of overs on real wickets... his triple tons on dustbowls r nothing.. if he has the talent let him do it down under against a watered down aussie attack... if aussies had mcgrath and warne, I bet sehwag would not have seen even double figures in any of the games.

I referred to Indian piches because you were saying they will not need 31 overs to bowl and ridicule a great performance of taking 9 wickets on a difficult pitch singlehandedly from one end! I am talking a different point!
The point is we need great bowlers, irrespective of whether they are fast bowlers or will rely on swing and speed variations! Ishant is totally out of place and he lacks the fitness and skill to play Test cricket, at least as seen in this series and in Eng (except the 2nd inn, first Test in Eng)!
And the last point, intimidation is not the reason for most of the wickets!
The current crop of successful bolwers are smart thinking, and this is an are where likes of ISHANT and UMESH YADAV loose miserably.
Both of them keep their mind on their knees while bowling. No plans, no strategy. Just go and bowl for the sake of it. Take the name of "national pride" and make everyone feel senti about you. Enoguh now. Probably a person who is educated till 10th standard will use his brain more effectively than these SPOILED bolwers, who have a NON-PERFORMING bowling coach withdrawing Fate Salary for his non-performance. "It can only happen in India" with BCCI at helm.
And even if they have brains, they loose it with little of success and does not matter to be consistent enough to contribute.
A misery unfolded not just recently, its just happended once again. EXPOSED.
simply does not moves and do not attempt to take catches on his own bowling...seems frustrated and not suitable for test matches..he should play more duleep / ranji / zonal matches to improve his concentration..
we have to first hire one astrologer ,so that he can judge which induvidual player will be luck in that period of year . and kick out this unlucky players out as per ishants claims
