A cricketing board should decide how a captain is selected and it should not be arbitrary or on a trail and error basis. A captain of an Indian team needs to have personality traits required to handle the job.
Did the selectors do enough research and analysis to decide who the captain should be ? A young captain who leads a bunch of established seniors can cause issues. Seniors players feel short changed and ignored and sometimes feel being pushed around.
Dhoni has been making errors that need correction
1. The late declarations in the NZ test series 2. Giving Praveen K the new ball for 69 ODIs 3. Piyush Chawla in the WC as untested player 4. Preference for slower bowlers 5. Preferences for too much line and length 6. Defensive waiting game in matches 7. Defensive field placements 8. Too many singles in ODIs 9. The current fiasco of waiting till the end 10. Asking for pitch to turn on day 1 in India 11. Bowling as a wicket-keeper,
The question is what is next, because this does seem a bit strange.
There could be discussions on his technique on his batting and other issues not relevant to leadership skills. But sometimes it is confusing why Dhoni is making some real strange decisions. Some might argue that his success has been due to that. I personally feel that India has immense talent and resources to overcome in Cricket and sometimes the white washes overseas can be looked into in finding the answers.

if any of the great intl cricketers like kapil , gavaskar , inzi, smith , kallis , ponting , hayden , botham , arvinda, sanga, lara , richards , clive llyod, kalicharan. sobers had got the break when they were 16 & got to play as many matches as the Greatest has , they would have created such records that SRT could never even dream of coming anywhere near them - even if gets to play as long as he is able to hold his bat.
Some of the players you mentioned above have started after sachin and finished b4 him. Then how come they would have lasted this long if they had started early. Getting oppurtunities are always based on their capabilities. It is simple that they were not good enough to get chance when they were 16 years old. Players like afridi, mushtaq and one other pakistan player came very early and gone very early too. The same might have happened for the above mentioned players also. The fact is sachin's career is a proven record for longevity and consistency. Do not compare history with the one which never happened by putting a simple word "if" at the start.

dear ravi ,
you missed the obvious point. we are not talking of sachin's contemporaries alone. we are talking of tenure of playing days ( 22 years ) , no of matches / innings etc. as i said people should have the courage to look beyond Sachin.

Even by the same logic, SRT still remains the greatest batsman till date although I am not saying he might remain the same in the future. I suggest improving your knowledge more on cricket for obvious reasons.

SRT is not the greatest batsmen in any form of the game. he is not a match winner and now he is becoming a burden on team india and their victories.
He should be selected if there is a match between india and the following countries on flat wickets 1. canada 2. netherlands 3. kenya 5. tobaco 4. zimbabwe

From 1989 India won only 5 matches against Ausis before last win in Ausis. All 5 matches SRT was key contributor

Example of match finished by sachin... India innings (target: 240 runs from 50 overs) R M B 4s 6s SR View dismissal RV Uthappa c Hussey b Hopes 17 74 33 2 0 51.51 SR Tendulkar not out 117 235 120 10 0 97.50 View dismissal G Gambhir run out (Johnson/Hopes) 3 9 4 0 0 75.00 View dismissal Yuvraj Singh b Hogg 10 33 21 1 0 47.61 View dismissal RG Sharma b Hopes 66 108 87 6 0 75.86 MS Dhoni*† not out 15 21 12 3 0 125.00 Extras (b 4, lb 2, w 6, nb 2) 14   ;   ; Total (4 wickets; 45.5 overs; 235 mins) 242 (5.28 runs per over)
It is easy for them to argue against sachin since with the exception of few they do not have any favourite players. So whoever shines on a given day they would fix that player against sachin. It is as simple as that for which they would say team comes first as if for sachin fans team do not matter. This is pure jealous and stomach burning since they do not want to see sachin to do anything. In any team sport there are individuals who would attract people. Nothing harm in that.

dear mr ravi house ,
why sachin fans can't see beyond sachin.? why can't they appreciate great efforts by other cricketers. ?why can't they admit that SRT is past his prime?. he can not keep playing on the basis of his past performances ?

Absolutely right. I accept that he is past his prime but that even today's sachin is as good as any other youngster with few exceptions. Would you deny that? Moreover, sachin fans particularly me would always appreciate others performances. I am a big fan of dhoni and sehwag. In fact i am one of the few who are against dhoni's removal from test captaincy. Having said that when you always blog something or the other critisicing sachin why should not we come and support him? For the sake of past performances i will give you a detailed report after wc 2011.

i ahve never questioned why someone is supporting / criticising a particular player. i am giving only my views , mr ravi house.
Re: Re: Re: For Sachin Bashers

mr ravi house ,
1.if he is past his prime as rightly admitted by you , why can't he be dropped and replaaced witha promising youngster as bhajji was rightly replaced by Ashwin. 2.when thse youngster fail we talk of dropping them , why can;t the same yardstick be applied to SRT.
3. if past performances / records are the only criteria then there are many players who need not be dropped but have been dropped. & ther lies the major problem. fans 0 whether of sachin or dhoni or xyz have to be dispassionate & pragmatic in their approach & not get carried away by their likings / dislikings.

There is absolutely no need to substitute him because we haven't found a player half as capable as he is. So don't just drop because someone is old. Drop him in case he is not performing. It doesn't matter whether he is 30-40 or 100 yrs old. Just because other players are dropped, blame it on the system and not Sachin!
