My wrong call cost us the game, says Dhoni
by Lotiya Pathan on Feb 14, 2012 09:07 PM  | Hide replies

I don't know if I agree with Dhoni. All due credit to him for snatching a tie, but it was his offely slow start again that costed us a win. He was again at around 50% strike rate with tons of dots ball.

The players at the other end were struggling to keep up with the asking rate.

I can't see how Dhoni fits T20 team with such sort of batting, where he needs so many overs to settle in and can't even rotate strike during that time..

u r right,
we cudnt win bcz of dhoni. he played slow whn reqd rate ws 5.8 runs /over.

secondly pathan got out bcz of him, dhoni shud hv knwn that vinay kr n umesh cnt bat, so dere ws no need of that single.

thirdly his weakness against quality bowling is exposed again, cudnt hit a single boundary to malinga in last year.

last match also, he tries his best to lose game by playing wid SR of 55 whn reqd rate ws 5.9.

thnx to opponents bowlers (aus n sl) who threw noballs at crucial time n we didnt lose.

You probably didn't read the whole article.
1) He said he wanted to stay till the end because he knew there weren't many batsmen after him.
2) he himself admitted that it was a mistake to call Gambhir for the single, which means that if Gambhir hadn't been out, either he or Dhoni would have scored at a faster clip.

guy,
I read the srticle and it made no sense. No batsman left afterhim? Then why call Jadeja, Ashwin and Pathan allrounders?

My point is that he wasn't scoring nor rotating the strike. I watched the whole game and Dhoni was one curious case. He was playing out like in defence practise in the net..

Dhoni was just way too slow in most part of inning. He must improve and learn how to score singles..

It's very risky and getting old quickly. Dhoni needs to raise his strike rate then waiting till last over and slog it out with the hope to tie or win the game.

Dhoni is one of the best finisher in the game, but he has taken it way too far in last couple games.

Youngster at other end throwing their wickets away to raise the run rate

He is making a heavy weather out of calm sunny day..

Agreed. Dhoti needs to rotate strike. He just can't lo up to other end to keep slogging and he humself keep defending endlessly..

dhoni knows he is the last one of the recognised batsman, so if he starts increaseing the run rate in 40th over & looses his wickets..no body is behind him to finish the game..thats why he stays at the stump & finishes the game....

What more can we ask? We are asking him to look at his performance in Test matches and make an intelligent decision about it!

He is still the best in ODIs and Twenty20, where the idea is to score in every ball and he does that very very well... But it Tests, he sucks.. and its really painful to watch him bat and struggle to survive!

After the runout of Dhoni he did it again with Irfan it was not at a run but Dhoni inspite of getting himself back he sent irfan at the other end it resulted in dot ball n a wicket it was his frustration tht irfan will not score on next ball , again he ran a run in last over n gave strike to vinay kumar why he did that on the very next ball vinay ran for bringing dhoni on striker end it resulted in dot ball n a wicket , Dhoni was all frustrated was cool about it..
