is dhoni good enough for tests?
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 12, 2012 05:56 PM

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 dhoni has played 19 tests 33 innings 4 not out 859 runs 29.62 average 144 highest 100s-1 50s-7 batting position 7

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 gambhir has played 16 tests 29 innings 0 not out 907 runs 31.27 average 93 highest 100s-0 50s-7 batting position opener

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 sehwag has played 15 tests 28 innings 0 not out 889 runs 31.75 average 117 highest 100s-1 50s-5 batting position opener

in last 2 years 2011 and 2012 kohli has played 13 tests 24 innings 2 not out 788 runs 35.81 average 116 highest 100s-2 50s-5

tell me what is the difference between sehwag gambhir kohli and dhoni that mohinder is making such a big noise about?

the stats above clearly expose mohinder. he wants like any regional selector to have players from his region in the team and in important positions. he wants players like sehwag, gambhir, kohli and mishra in the team and as captains or vice captains if he can manage that.
according to him dhoni has no technique etc. to play in test cricket...mohinder if that is so then how do you explain that he has matched your favourite quality test players like sehwag gambhir kohli in stats...that too coming so low down the order...
mohinder you say dhoni is protected by higher ups...so you want to protect your favorites sehwag, gambhir and kohli? If dhoni is not qualified/equipped to play tests even as a player if one goes by the figures of last 2 years then are the players that you are backing qualified?

not a dhoni fan

but need to admit that everyone is being too hard on him. we earlier had ganguly who was a complete failure with the bat for 2 yrs but was lucky enough to have batsmen like tendulkar, dravid and laxman in their prime, who covered up his failures. It finally took someone as conscienteous like chappel to kick out the laibility. Dhoni hasnt been this bad but unfortunately doesnt have as many good batsmen performing consistently as ganguly did. And finally, dhoni is definitely not a selfish player the way ganguly was (look at the number of times ganguly slowed down while nearing a personal milestone).

Unfortunately now, Amarnath was kicking out the biggest liabilities called Sachin & Dhoni. But BCCI shoved him out of the panel. In countries like SA/Aus/Eng where cricket is played seriously, they would have chased the useless fellows like Dhoni/ Sachin/ Zaheer/ Harbhajan/ Ishant Sharma.

So long as the players do not do their job which they are suppossed to & paid to on the field, the outcome will be imminent defeat. However, a good Coach & Captain can influence the players upto a great extent in leading the team to victory or loss. Although I'm not a fan of any particular cricketer, I'm of the opinion that Clive Loyd, Imran Khan, Arjuna Ranatunga, Steve Waugh, Saurav Ganguly had demonstrated good leadership qualities in motivating the players & saving the team from the face of defeat by their timely on field strategies. Wonder why we are forced to depend on foreign coaches when we got so many talented outstanding cricketers like Gavaskar, Kapil Dev etc. I thought our bowling & fielding had improved when Venkatesh Prasad & Robin Singh were coaches.

sachin should retire, yes. but if you say his fitness/form is affecting the team, i dint know that 10 others' mental condition is so bad. so, why not send all of them to Agra mental hospital?

Selection of Team
by Venkatasubramanian M on Dec 11, 2012 12:23 PM

Indian selectors do not have guts to either to talk to Tendulkar or drop him. Only he has to decide on his future. Till such time they will keep selecting him whenever he says 'available'. Yuvi has unnecssarily been made a scape goat. He has definitely played better than Kohli as far as this series is concerned. It is time that Dhoni is relieved of Wicket Keeping so that he can only concentrate on his captaincy and batting. Having totally different for each form of cricket should also be given a thought.

The writer of this article makes a BIG NOISE on the heat being on the coach. Fine. Duncan Fletcher has some pressure.

But the way it is presented is coloured.

WHAT ABOUT SOME LITTLE HEAT ON THE ELEVEN PLAYERS THAT REPRESENTED INDIA ON THE FIELD?
WHAT ABOUT THEIR PERFORMANCE?
FLETCHER DID NOT PLAY. THESE PLAYERS DID.

Could there be some accountability on these players please?!??!

Yes, but what is the role of a coach? If the team members are loafing around, it is his duty to train them. Afterall, Fletcher is supposed to be a hard taskmaster.
