Selfless Sangakara's decision shocking
by Mahendra Shrimani on Apr 30, 2012 04:01 PM  | Hide replies

"However, the Sri Lankan's decision was a first of its kind" - Certainly not the first of its kind!!
Last such incidence happened was on the 1974 England tour of Australia led by Mike Dennese when during the 2nd or 3rd test he himself sat out due to non performance against the menacing duo of Lillee, Thompson and Walker and the team was led by some other Englishman- dont remembr the name.

Result would have made the difference!
by B M on Apr 30, 2012 03:35 PM

If DC had won the match, Sangakkara would have been praised for his decision!

He should have actually stayed on because he was the best suited to take on Malinga.

Captain should not sit
by siddhartha roy on Apr 30, 2012 02:59 PM  | Hide replies

A captain is also the leader of his boys. His primary job is to get the best out of them, not his own performance.
What would Pune if there was no ganguly. It would have lost the will to fight and win.
What was Warne's individual contribution in IPL-1.

Bottomline, a good captain should not sit out.

Sangakkara was not in that bad a nick as it is made out to be. If then, craig white, had only one innings of substance, not just in this season but in the entire ipl, from 1 season till now.
But while saying that, a top order batsman's role is very important in a T20. Ganguly is the best captain india have ever had and that remains the case with pune warriors as well but his form as well as sachin's form for mumbai indians, is hurting both the teams badly. Both are not scoring quickly, even if they make a 20 or 30. And adds to it if the batsman at the other end is also not getting quick runs, then that team will suffer. That is exactly what is happening to mumbai indians this season. They are the lowest in this season, when scoring runs in the first 6 overs is concerned
