I live in Colombo, and I see these cut outs everyday on my way to work. There is nothing exceptional about them, rather hardly anybody notice them. Yes, cricket is a major sports in Sri Lanka, but remember that is the only sport which they play international, in a big way. So naturally they are mad about it. Sri Lanka is a small nation with very little population and they have space to accommodate such cut outs and hoardings as they are not entirely commercialised like Indian cities. Plus, government here sponsors mos of the hoardings and they dont make money like Indian private companies do in India.
Make no mistake! Indians do have a passion for cricket and more so for world cup. Indian cricket has successfully graduated to a money spinning business model through endorsements, media advertising/broadcasting contracts and bookies. Passion need not be displayed by few hoardings and few processions on cricket. Just observe the sheer number of people following the game to the minutest detail and the money people are ready to spend to buy a ticket or a piece of cricket history in auctions. It is indeed phenomenal! World Cup in India is not bore but we have matured to a stage where open exhibitionism is nor more required. Having said that I do admire Krishnakumar for giving his insight into other Asian countries' ways of dealing with world cup. Interesting but I do find the comparison exaggerated.
If u had seen all the matches, u would observe one thing that is all the player are not playing with their potential and looks tired. By looking at such a bore player and bore looks and no energy to play for the nation so that people are bored..... I also bored when i was typing this message....
In India, everyone is too busy with building their lives and working rather than give more time than necessary to an entertainment sport. I am happy to read this news. By the way the word "Boring" does not have an equalent in any Indian language. Because we are an active nation, we dont get bored. This is a Karma Bhoomi boss, better be ready to work here or pack of to other sleepy countries.

It is a known fact that the world cup is bore and nobody is interested to watch or listen comentary, because the bookies are fixed all the games and no team is played with real spirit.

Excessive advertisements are killing the game. Please write to BCCI regarding excessive advertisements by broadcasters during television matches.
Biggest mistake is to convey that India is less passionate than Sri Lanka. In India cricket, politics and movies are integral part of daily life. In a war-torn country like SRi Lanka now almost recomposing back I think it is really nice to know that they are doing great but don't start comparing. This is not an apple to apple comparison.
What is the amount of commercials, organizations and logistics for World Cup arranged by each country and as well as how many followers of game remains hooked on?
How many cricketing websites are being followed on by relevant country? Across the globe how many subscribers from both the country are watching paid cricket channels?
I don't want to go in details but it will be better if someone thinks twice before inking. Surprisingly rediff as usual needs slideshow and thats all.
