Selecting the best in a sport cannot be a democratic process
by Cric Fan on Jul 20, 2011 05:06 PM

One needs to have deep understanding of the game and its history. This is a ridiculous list and I agree with Boycott. Every Tom, Dick and Harry who had access has voted with very limited knowledge. It is not easy to select the best 11 ever, even by experts and living greats of the game, leave alone the aam aadmi cricket fan, who is mostly, fickle, emotional and hardly knowledgable. This is a wasted exercise.

CricFan. You are right. Ridiculous is putting it mildly. Only kids or biased Indians or total ignoramus' have voted here (could be any of the 3 categories). I am shocked to see 4 Indians when only 1 (gavaskar) deserves to be truly in the list. Sachin is still unproven after 22 or 220 years or whatever. He is good only because of his protective gear. So from the present era I will take only Kallis as the batsman and maybe Lara for he was a genius. Hobbs, Trumper, Richards, Pollock will make the others in the batting. Warne, Gilly, Marshall, Akram, Garner will complete my probable list. Surely not Tendulkars and Kapils of this world.

Boycs is right

He stopped short of calling Indian cricket fans idiots and I have to agree with him. I have seen posters here who know nothing more than Tendulkar. So much for these cricket pundits! Bah.

bloody fool. you think all others are ignorant and only you know everything!

First of all this selection of 11 players were based on popular voting. These are the 11 players voted in by those participated in it. Who are you to question it. Even if I think manoj prabhakar should be there in the 11, who are you to question it? if you don't agree, you vote for the player you think is right. i will not question your choice.

And finally I think sachin is the greatest batsman to every play cricket. if you don't agree, i don't give a damn!

bycott should have been...

in the team... he would have occupied crease for longer time than all others combined from both teams and scored about 50 runs in 3 days of batting...

Instead of one team there should have been choice to select two teamsof 12 players from the names given and Boycott should have been included for captains choice

yes I agree with Boycott. you cannot ignore Dennis Lille, Sobers like stalwars. Definitely there were more talented than Shewag and Kapil and Akram. They were batting without headgear etc. Spin is an art and to ignore Murali is ridiculus.
