In 1985, India lost series to England in India. David Gower was the captain for England. Immediately after the series India won Benson & Hedges Champions Trophy in Australia under Sunil Gavaskar\'s Captaincy.
In 2007, India won the series against Srilanka & lost the world cup. In the same year T20 World Cup India lost the series in England & also in New Zealand. But the inexperienced Indian Team under the Captaincy of Dhoni won the T20 WORLD CUP.
Now India Lost the series closely to South Africa & now the world cup is coming. See India is going to win the cup. Only thing is Dhoni has to strange the strategy. That\'s all. All the Best to Indian Team. Be Positive

Great stats...thanks! I always knew these - very nice to hear this all oer again! We always tend to forget what a mediocre side the 1983 team seemed before it won the WC. Hindsight is always better than foresight. After we won suddenly Binny, Madan Lal, Sandhu etc., are all tremendous bowlers!
We should learn from the past that performance on that day is what counts - not who was selectd and who wasn't...

How come Aussies are 3 times defending champions? It should be 4 times.. 1987, 1999, 2003 and 2007. Mr. Mohapatra pls don't over estimate ur cricketing knowledge.

surya das, the winners of last time are called defending champions. aus were winners of 1987, not the WC before that so in 1987 they were not 'defending champions' like they were in 1999, 2003 and 2007.

Last time, before the WC, Pakistan rightly said about Indian Team: All Indian Players are tired of playing continuously in IPL! It proved to be right! We lost to Banlo and took the procession back to Airport!!
As long as team carry unfit players like UV, India cannot reach semi finals. Dhoni's presence is another obstacles to team india's progress beyond quarter final. Hope Dhobi and company don't loose against BD

Actually UV is a good player, they spoiled his confidence by not giving Captainship and given captainship to 100% luck holder Dhoni
Dhoni should get injured while playing in the net so that he could be kept out of the team for next two years which will get rid of politics in the selection of playing eleven.
For all the support that you have given to India after the 1983 victory, India should have won a minimum of 2 world cups after 1983. It has not happened. So dont waste time and hike your electricity bills by watching TV..
Better do something useful instead. There are greater things in life than a cricket match which consumes 9 hours.
As this is a 'once in 4 yrs' event, watch only the final irrespective of whoever is playing the finals.
The Indian cricketers will anyway be paid for their advts and other endorsements even after losing matches.
