Dhoni will play to his eventual end
by Arvind Aravindanatham on Jan 22, 2011 03:28 AM  | Hide replies

Dhobi again disappointed with his pathetic display, but as world cup is near, what looks like home advantage for India, Dhobi's captaincy and his "amazing" contribution will put us on the downward course. Earning millions looks like Dhobi will not quit himself, after the World Cup inevitably he and the selection panel will get a huge kick on their backside from Indian public. His daily performances will only foster anger and hate against him.

Dhoni's excuses today after the match ...
by pawarush@rediffmail.com on Jan 22, 2011 03:13 AM  | Hide replies

They were scoring at a healthy pace.
I tried the fast bowlers, spinners, part-timers but things don't go your way always - he forgot to try wicket keeper, coach, manager, umpire etc.
The middle order hasn't clicked - he himself is of no particular order

where do yuvi, raina, rohit lack
by E darwin on Jan 22, 2011 03:07 AM  | Hide replies

when to hit and when to defend/block/nudge/leave on front and back foot. when to take to front and when to be at back.

this is where kohli and gambhir improved. when to show patience with spin, when not ...

same in pace department, indian pacers have yet to work on swing, yorkers, speed, etc.

spin is good but there is selection politics.

also, kohli, gambhir, tendulkar also know when to fake a shot/hit mistake when they know how to do it right.

yes SA did not mind 'run out' as long they got 1s 2s to keep the run rate going

... next time india will have to see what they can do to stop them in their act ...

maybe more change in fielding , more run outs, stumps, etc.

Playing well and losing is one thing, losing like this is a shame. It is a consistent show in this series , the pitch was good even lesser batsmen like Botha and Petersen did well. Most of their batters were run out not dismissed like ours. Rohit, Dhoni, Yuvi, Suresh - just farting around? They are utter failures in this series. Now that their shortcomings against pace and bounce have been exposed , everyone will exploit them. Shame on them. This team deserves neither this series nor the WC.

In 22 years Sachin played 4 world cups. What did he do? Moral is, 1983 WC win was by mistake. India cant. Australia wil win 2011 WC again.

The glory days of Sachin is over. Yes, agreed he has historic milestones under his belt, but that does not alone get the WC in a team game like cricket!

Just remember the success he has brought to this Indian team. he took a team in total disarray to number one rating in all forms of the game. Show some gratitude.

If dhoni is the coach of India we can agree that. But he is a player who need to perform better than others. He should bat well to take the team from down.

Performance is Not the criteria for Indian Captain, period. If you can effectively carry the selectors philosophy into the team- you got it, you are the Captain.

There is nothing wrong in questioning if a player is performing or not, Dhoni included. If he is not contributing to the team's effort in his designated role, he does not deserve a place. Even tendulkar's production was questioned under Chappal's coaching.

India in Tests and ODIs
by Chris on Jan 22, 2011 01:42 AM  | Hide replies

India is no. 1 in Tests because one of the Big 3 play in every match. When was the last time we won without contributions from Sachin, Dravid or VVS. The ODI team is hurting without Dravid in it as a back up if Sachin fails. Of the current lot only Kohli is half way capable. Rest are flops including the captain.

Do not also understand why we are having an ODI series just before World Cup. We should have skipped last two ODIs

Dravid? Are you serious? It's time for him to retire from Test cricket too, and join his buddies in karnatake state cricket asso.
India became No.1 because of Sehwag and Laxman, and yes, those two should always be included in the ODI side, especially when we are touring abroad, where Laxman can provide a lot of solidity to the stumbling middle order.
