Rain advantage to us if raina stays
by rtc on Jan 22, 2011 12:31 PM

Raina once again going for that kind of shot despite everyone knows there might be rain and if he doesn't get out probably d/l favours us since we are in a good position by losing only 3 wickets. He has to think before going for these sort of shots (Would have clinched the series yesterday itself)

Bowlers have won the ODI's
by Dinesh Balani on Jan 22, 2011 11:53 AM  | Hide replies

Looking at the present track record of the 4 ODI's , its the bowlers who have won the matches for India & batsmen have struggled.Clearly the absence of Sehwag & Gambir is the opening slot is felt & early wickets have put India on the backfoot.Replacing Parthiv Patel for Tendulkar was a waste on Bouncy South African Wickets.Saurabh Tiwary would have been a better option alike Yusuf Pathan.Yuvraj Raina & Dhoni also have failed to take much responsibility being the senior players. Its still anyones game in the 5th ODI but Indian Batting has to improve.

Right, Saurabh Tiwary who has never played a front foot cover drive in his life, should open -- excellent thinking. Then we can also have Dhoni opening along with his Jharkhand mate --- we will see a nice display of fly swatting and helicopter riding, instead of cricket.

Dhoni wicket keeping
by Aijaz on Jan 22, 2011 10:39 AM  | Hide replies

I am observing his wicket keeping for the past few matches, when the ball goes past by him he does not attempt to dive and stop it, instead he is ready to give runs than injure himself and he is taking rest during the series to do commercials

Seems to a good choice to open the innings with Sehwag. He has great techniques and temperament to play all types of bowling.

It's ludicrous
by guy giggling on Jan 22, 2011 08:45 AM  | Hide replies

It's ludicrous to declare a team a winner based on the performance in that match so far. since they have managed to keep in the lead so far in the game doesn't mean that they will eventually win. Both the previous games are an example. India won despite being in a disadvantageous position right up to the last wicket fell. What is the guarantee that they wouldn't repeat that.

This whole D/L method should go. They should rather have re-matches. Which means more reserve days in a tour which in turn means less number of tours. We are definitely having too much of cricket. We as spectators and the they as players, both need longer breaks to enjoy the game better

That's my 2 cents worth

Re-matches used to happen earlier. But after commercial era took over, the schedules are too tight due to too many matches being played for the benefit of consumer companies. Its these companies who dictate the rules/laws in cricket, so that the game is attractive and you watch it everyday and get super doses of advertisements and buy their product.

You are criticizing D/L rule because India lost the match. Had India won this match, you had been celebrating and endorsing D/L rule. :-)

There are 90% chances of Thundershower in Centurion, so its clear this series is drawn 2-2, with very close matches and 2 absolutely one sided matches.

Injustice to true talent
by Jay on Jan 22, 2011 04:09 AM  | Hide replies

This ODI series has clearly proven that Suresh Raina and Murali Vijay are unfit to play international cricket. Both are good T20 batsmen at best and that too in Indian conditions. There is a HUGE injustice done to players like Robin Uthappa, Saurab Tiwary, Ambati Rayudu etc.

This Srikkant is playing regional politics in team selection. When will real talent surface in India ???? This is a disgrace to us fans. Robin you got a raw deal man !! please immigrate to England or Australia and you shall deserve better.

Srikkant is a selector for the same reason Dhoni continues to be a captain. They have cemented their place thanks to Srinivasan, their CSK master and cement baron. Srikant was a below average player ... 146 ODIs and 4 hundreds with 29 average. Test average no better. Heck, by Srikant standards, Dhoni is like Bradman !

I am not here to support Srikanth or anyone but if you just happen to look back at the past records, whatever selection Srikanth is doing now is reasonable. He has dropped Murali Vijay now after his 3 successive failures in the ODIs.Moreover,it is not Srikanth's decision alone to induct players. Also, it is not fair to call Srikanth a average player as he scored 4000 runs.Yes,his batting was not composed but every one have their own style. He played against the most fearsome bowlers of West Indies with ease.He was the one who brought the concept of pinch hitter long ago.

Calling Srikant an avg player betrays ur understanding of cricket. I am not discussing merits of selectionbut Srikant was a towering batsman and his attitude could turn around any games in minutes. In his playing days, if you missed his batting in the match, no point watching the match

My point is that a career average of 29 both tests and odi for an opener is below average. Nothing personal against either Srikant, Dhoni or the players. If you are the head of selection, or captain, you will get to share the kudos and blame in equal measure. Murali, Raina, Dhoni etc have not performed well overseas despite getting favorable treatment from selectors over other equally deserving players like kohli, pujara etc. Hence my rant
