Too bad Ganguly was not bought. When a press conference was held, Mr. Amin was asked repeatedly why Ganguly was not taken by anyone. He merely said something to the effect that this is a market and the teams decide on whom to buy and whom not to. He said the IPL authorities cannot interfere or dictate their choices. This cannot be solved by burning effigies or launching protests like Ganguly gangs would do in his heyday. It is time that the Kolkatta crowd was told where it had to get off. Ganguly has done a lot of good for Indian Cricket but he has frequently shown the wrong attitude. The franchisees may be taking some foolish decisions but it is their money and their choice and they will live or die with their preferences.

Guys relax....not even a mosquito will show up in eden gardens this time around....Dada was such a crowd puller that he could draw flocks of ppl to eden gardens even to wacth his team lose..but now shahrukh will have to endure the most difficult times ahead...
If there was one thing which was clearly conveyed by the team owners, it was that they have no regard for past and are investing for the future. Very business-like, some would say. But, for people who're going to spend millions, they sure have a right to assure themselves a good Return On Investment (ROI). Former stars like Lara, Ganguly, and Jayasurya come with a baggage which team owners wanted to avoid. These players are 40 or thereabouts, so fitness will remain an issue (hence their availability); they have retired a while back, so aren't exactly match-fit;and all of them come with big egos and inflexible attitudes. In the last edition of IPL Ganguly embarassed KKR owners with his attitude towards captaincy (given to McCullum). So, it would have been better for 'senior' players to withdraw gracefully prior to the auction, instead of having to face the embarassment of finding no takers for them.
The problem for Ganguly is not the game. He may be better than many others players in auction. It is not about his game. If he is hired, he will come with a baggage of ego since he was a former captain. It will create another power center. It will be difficult for Coach and Captian to control him and his followers.
Quite understandably Mr. Khan, who shows great "in front of camera" respect for Ganguly chose not to be within the aucton room. He rather was enjoying cricket in South Africa and was more interested in marketing himself rather than thinking about his team and the masses of "Kolkata".Mr. Venky, CEO of KKR and a Mysore buddy, chose L. Balaji and was seen boasting about his choice!! But Mr. Khan and Mr. Venky need to understand that cricket in Bengal is not only a sport but a religion not only in Bengal but to all Bongs all over the world. You also need to understand that you cannot run a successful club cricket team without local crowd support, and any insult to a Bengali cricketer of Ganguly's stature will not be digested in the native land. Mr. Venky, I am sure has not done his homework right. It was not about selecting or rejecting Ganguly, it was about paying his due respect generously.Yes, Mr. Venky you may call Ganguly as "Mr. Ganguly" by your own professional mannerisms, but cricket is not played by sheer professionalism, it has some amout of emotions attached. Mentor?? Ganguly is a man who wants to be in action and he is the man who decides his own fate! Let us see what support you get in Kolkata, your home ground and how far Mr. Khan goes from here!!

Better get updated...Get your infos correct... he has just a few hours ago given statements in TV from Soth Africa !!
Having watched the telecast of the auction on TV quite a bit, I felt is was the closest I could visualize slave-trade in the earlier centuries. There was a huge premium on younger players, and experienced ones were on a discount, so to say. The owners may have had their reasons not to pick match-winners !!

This Auction remind me the history which i studied in my junior classes. These is very hi-tech version of old slavery auction happened in india, latin america, africa, rome etc... here corprates are biding for players to work for then. Great Achivement by BCCI...
