BATSMAN CLASS / BOWLERS THIRDCLASS
by Ali M on Jan 07, 2011 12:56 PM

I really feel sorry for our indain batsmen as they have to face worldclass bowlers and we come out as winners. While Kallis never made runs against Pollock, Donald,Steyn,Morkel as same Pointing never faced Glen Macgrath, Warne,Jonhson,Lee. Our Batsmen faced them all and scored well against them. None of our bowlers are of that class so other team against our bowlers do well. I am sure that if Kallis or Pointing had to face the classy bowlers then their record now would have been not that great and would have been far far behind Sachin.Guys Just imagine if Sachin or Sehwag had to face our Indian bowlers??? We need better bowlers than we can say that we are a complete team. We can't depend on our bowlers. Hats off to our batsmen specially SACHIN!!!

Match winning capabilities
by explorer on Jan 07, 2011 12:21 PM  | Hide replies

I extracted some data to check how other players contributed for Wins.

Sehwag played 87 matches and India won 35. But he made just 7 centuries in those matches.

Sachin played 175 matches. Out of that India won 60 and Sachin made 20 centuries.

If we call Sehwag as a match winner and Sachin as some one to play for records, these statistics do not support it.

In Summary,Let us just enjoy the match without showing prejudice.

using Statistics I can show any one as great and anyone as unproductive.

Captaincy
by raj on Jan 07, 2011 11:36 AM  | Hide replies

Only disappointing note in this great series to me was captency from both the teams. Dhoni was very defensive so was Smith. Noone put a step forward to get the initiative. Dhoni seems to lost confidence in the bowling attack (visible from past two tours in India as well) and always depending on batting lineup only. To a lot ofextent bowling attack also need to be blamed which is very inconsistent but for Zaheer. But this approach will not do any good for Inida. About smith I'll leave the excuse to him as he is good at giving excuses :-) but when you have best bowling line up in home conditions not trying to win is a real surpraise.

Need to groom new Players from now
by Kannan sri on Jan 07, 2011 11:31 AM

Hi,
Its always pleasing for a Team to beat Australia in their own Backyard.A Vaccum is created after Retirement of Warne,Martyn,Gilli and McGrath. They need time to Come back with a new team settled. Aus never brought great
spinners except Warne. See in India after 2001 vs Aus in Eden Garden, We have not seen much change in Batting lineup with Dravid,Sachin,Ganguly and Laxman. Laxman Place got assured in the team after that knock of 281 only. Now its tough to replace Ganguly. When the FAB 3 retire [ Sachin, Dravid and Laxman], its not impossible to replace them or any great legand in international arena like Kumble or Kallis or Gilli or who ever it may be but surely will take time to replace them .India should think ahead now to replace Zaheer, Harbhajan when they retire in a few years. We have more people coming up to replace in ODI's or T20's but needs people to be groomed for Tests from on ,so that people will get ready in another 2-3 years. Also we should have 3-4 Seamers [who are capable of Bowling like Steyn / McGrath ] in Backup and Batsman like PUJARA, RAINA, RAHANE, KOHLI, BADRINATH To be groomed for Tests. If we have seperate teams for ODI's , T20's and TESTS, it will help to avoid Players Burn out and prolog their career in International Arena.

This is what Dhoni said
by Varun on Jan 07, 2011 11:25 AM  | Hide replies

The nature of the Kookaburra balls are such that it doesn't do much after 40 overs. Our bowlers are dependant more on skill than pace. So when a player like Kallis gets set, it becomes difficult to get him out as you can't just push through with old ball, he reasoned.

DHONI DID NOT GO FOR A KILL, WHICH LACKS CAPTAIN'S WILL TO WIN
by sunil menon on Jan 07, 2011 10:59 AM  | Hide replies

In fact its not Kallis who took away game from India, it was Dhoni's ultra-defensive and un-imaginative captaincy that let South Africa off the hook. By no means I want to deny credit to Kallis for his outstanding efforts but at the same time I don't understand why did Dhoni not go for the kill when South Africa was 5 down 98? Dhoni should introspect his attitude and leadership skills. Another big joke Harbhajan claiming he did not get support from other bowlers...LOL. Honestly, it is time for India to look for other spin options, I kind of find it hard to recall any efforts from Harbhajan of late outside sub-continent that resulted in India's victory. May be he now belongs to commentry box, he has shown enough talent for that position by being un-appointed spokeperson of Team India.

Sunil it is not all so easy. You cant be fidgety. You have to trust your bowlers and set the fields for them. There are going to be days when it does not click. There is no escaping that. And zak is a bowler who is a thinker himself. SA also had the same problem. Not sure if it was the pitch. Would be interesting to see what the captains said after the match.

Menon:

I think it was a pretty ordinary and wayward bowling by the pace trio which let the Proteas off the hook...

If even Bhajji had failed to fire (thank God he didn't) we would have struggled to even save the test...

Dhoni had certain bowlers at his disposal and he used them... what else did you want him to do?

I will give credit to Kallis(to stay on crease despite injury) and aggressive approach of Boucher. On that kind of wicket playing aggreesive was best strategy on 3rd inning.

I don't want to be too critical but I agree partly with what you said. Dhoni is getting more and more defensive with the time. I saw this in NZ series and here as well. Looks like he lost confidence in bolwers.

ONE BODY IS DENYAING KALLIS’S BRAVE CENTUARY , BUT WHEN WE PLAYED IN OVERSEAS LIKE IN THIS MATCH ON AWALYS SHORT SRIKING BOWLER , DHOE HAS DONE ANY THING WRONG IN THIS MATCH, HE APPLIED TWO TACTIES AFETR 130-6 , FISRT TO REMOVE KALLIS FROM STRIKING END AND APPLY PRESSURE ON NEW BATSMAN LIKE BOUCHER . BUT WE COULDNOT EXECUTE THE LATER ONE .SHARMA WAS NOT UPTO THE MARK AND BOUCHER WAS PLAYING FOR THIS SURVIVAL IN WHICH HE SUCCEED. AND MORE IMPOTRANCE DRAVID BATTIING FAILURE IN FIRST INNING.

@RAwat: For yourinfo... Mark Boucher was main reason why we lost home series to SA 2-0 (99/00)... He is one of the best SA batsman in spinning conditions & these conditions were tailormade for his style - Spinning/team under pressure.

First of all, VVS is not a madrasi (anyway for you it's all the same!). And BTW he was just outside his crease which is the case in all forms of cricket. In ODIs, you back up a little bit more. Dravid was done in by a brilliant pick up and throw. All these happen. Draw happened because of not being able to clean up the tail. Allowing 96 runs for the last 2 wkts cost us the win.

If you want to make any cricket related comment on the forum, you are most welcome....

The IFFY games are being played elsewhere...

A total of 33 wickets fell in the match if you noticed... it will take you a while to analyse each one of them; hence the request... :)
