India is NO.1 team.
by chirag foryou on Jan 06, 2011 08:46 AM  | Hide replies

We are No.1 test team in the world nowadays. But this is real test of our test team.

If we win this test, we are far ahead of this No1 ranking.

If we draw it, we are No.1.

If we loose, we must introspect our test team and not to fall in ranking.

With all due respect to your message (which was an excellent one by the way); I see a logical fallacy..

If we win this test we are No. 1
If we draw it, we are the joint No. 1
If we lose, then I agree with you, we need to introspect

P.S.: A "Far ahead of this ranking" label requires a lot more than what we've displayed. Even the so-called (by Indian fans) 3rd rate Aussies defeated South Africa at home last year.

I too am a cricket fan; but I don't agree with you.

First innings with the super solid Sachin we could last for only 117 overs on a much better batting pitch.
What makes you think we will repeat the feat for 90 overs on this deathbed?

You can't rule out SA win possiblity. Not by any means.

In fact the only possibilities are India Win; OR SA Win..

10 batsmen can't just hang around on this pitch trying to save this match. Its a do or die situation...

:) you think Steyn is going to bowl dollies like Zaheer and Morkel and Tsotsobe are going to bang in short balls to be pulled away that easily? :)

But if you think Kallis and Boucher's batting is a measure of what OUR batsmen can do; then just take a look at the first innings... :)

But thanks for agreeing with me that our only hope is to counterattack and go for a win.... we CANNOT draw this match... :)

Sachin should not play in second innings......
by lionosx@rediffmail.com on Jan 06, 2011 08:35 AM  | Hide replies

Sachin should not play in second innings at all... He should allow the rest of "SPECIAL" players to play and save this match.
He has already done his part on this match. It is upto Shewag/Dravid/Lakshman and Dhoni's job to save this match now.

Second innings Sultans!!!
by lionosx@rediffmail.com on Jan 06, 2011 08:31 AM  | Hide replies

It is time for our Second Innding Sultans to justify their place. First Innings King Sachin proved himself. Now it is upto Dravid and Lakshman to prove themself.

;-)... nice to know that Laxman can't even perform when there is no pressure...
he performs only when there is a win in sight... :)

With no disrespect to Laxman, I detest your portrayal of him as this most selfish player seeking personal glory of "making India win matches"... and when that's not possible; then to not even bother..

And FINALLY, SRT was NOT a second innings flop at Centurion... was he? :)

what 486? all we need is 340. Why reduce by 146? Are we to analyze with and without Sachin all the time? If he's in the team, he has to play well. Same goes for the other 10.

Shri Chip:

To all those Laxman Saviour club members only one question.

Why doesn't he play cricket instead of "saving" India?
If he did that, 90% of the cases the second innings and heroics wouldn't have been needed...

Take this test... If Sachin had scored a duck in first innings; would that have meant the pressure in the first innings was any less?
But that would have meant that we would have chased an impossible target of 486 in the second innings.... THEN if Sachin had scored 146 and Laxman whatever you are planning for him; who would you say "shine again"?

You say, Laxman reserves his special for the second innings. Question is Why? And why can't someone else reserve specials for first innings? After all there ARE two innings in test cricket, are there not?

I am just curious about this phenomenon, hence asking... :)

I know that Logic and Rediff forum have nothing whatsoever in common, so its hardly surprising that YOU too believe that Sachin's 146 in the first innings was useless... :)

Keep thinking that way and keep wondering why we don't win more matches; when all we are doing is converting easy win matches into High pressure "India Saviour" type situations... ;-)

Against Pseudos,
You stole my thoughts. If some one scores 50 for India to win the match then it is more Important than the Openers or Upper order batsmens 100.
I tell you the reason for that we Indians have very short term memories and we cant remember what was happening on second day and third day of cricket when sachin was fighting through the innings and What happened to VVS ( yet no disrespect to VVS) This arguement is for the people who simply like to find reason to bash sachin.

dear friends , now you will see the true character of the indian team or so called indians when this type of task has came in the history of cricket india they have generated the famous response 'Fight or Flight' .. & they will choose to flight. yesterday ,the south africa were 65/4 ..& then they scored 341 .. just think why ... because the indian team lack the killing instinct .. just look at the indian innings ..240/3 .. then bundled out at 364.. this is just a lack of killing instinct. their body language shows the defeat before they have been defeated ..this match has only result & that shall be a humiliating defeat for indians.. no body can save them now.

I somewhat agree with you, when kallis & boucher were going then dhoni lacked some imagination and stuck with the regular bowlers he should have tried virender sehwag for an over or two ( I understand he has a bad shoulder may be thats why) and he could have tried sachin earlier than he did.
