It was utter chaos after fall of dhoni's wicket.. there was appeals turn down, beaten with swing and stein was breathing fire. it looked india will collapse 100 runs short. a lesser mortal would have done something silly like counter attack and perished.. but not tendulkar. after watching him for 20 years..my admiration grew one more time yesterday...
As tendulkar scored the century, there is no option left for india except losing he atch to keep with the records. ist test with sa india lost, now also india is likely to lose.

Thats the problem with Tendulkar's hundreds...don't you think he should be dropped for this 'habit'?

there is no if sehwag fails... sehwag will fail mostly... he is a hit or miss batsman mostly misses... but then he is protected by saying that is his style...

Well you have to not depend on Sehwag for responsible innings.
He is the guy who can turn matches. Matches heading for draw can be turned because of him. But all this X factor comes with a price. The price that he cannot be burdened to play a responsible innings.
That burden is meant to be shared by tendy/dravid and laxman.

Maybe the answer is to have a more consistent opener who can contribute more to regular and consistent Indian wins rather than trying to turn around a few draws here and there?

well yeah, but then again a team is successful when they have 1-2 players with that X factor. Having the same dimension player doesn't always work for a team
You need to have players that compliment others.
Steyn and Morkel -- good god They compliment each other so well. I know steyn got the wickets, but the day Steyn fails, Morkel might be the one among the wickets. You need players that compliment their team mates.
No ones perfect, hence you need members that can cover your weakness :)

Steven Smith doesn't really compliment anyone as far as I could see. He is in the team as an allrounder , more of an bowling allrounder, though his strength is in his batting.
Sehwag compliments the middle order by his ability to give a flying start. Dravid at #3 is the steady batsman that India need.
Tendy/Dravid /Laxman are all solid and Steady. But to score quickly is not their forte anymore. Thats where Sehwag comes in. If he gives India the kind of start he is capable off , the middle order can Chip away at the remaining score and win.
Classic example is the 390 something that we chased in Chennai, where Sehwag's blitz made the diff between draw and a win.
ofcourse tendy and Yuvraj did finish the job for us :), but it was Sehwag's blitz that paved the way for the team to win :)

sehwag being the biggest match winner is false media created myth atleast when wins abroad are concerned... sehwag never scored 50 in a winning cause for india outside subcontinent... he can only smash on flat subcontinent pitches and there also he just got 19 scores of above 50 where india won... so there is no basis to call him biggest match winner... check ur statistics...

But having Saying that one man who can make Indian win a easy cake is Shewag.... If he can play 2 sessions in 2nd innings then India will chase even 300 run quite easily.... I know there is beg if but only one man staying in teh crease for 2 session and India will win is only Shewag....Thats why he is so critical for India's 1 status

It is indeed strange to see that you still hold Team India in such poor esteem... . :)
If you were a real patriot; you'd kindly explain why Laxman shouldn't retire immediately as he too - as per your own free admission - scores runs; which according to you is a 100% way to lose a match? ;-)
The maggots constantly creep out of the woodwork to snip at Tendulkar's heels! That is the gulf of achievement between the maggots(who continue in their ignorant bliss)and Tendulkar! The tall poppy has to be brought down by festering maggots who have nothing else going for them! Dale Steyn yesterday would have troubled every batsman in the world- past, present and future! The prodigious swing at high pace would have undone anyone. It was Tendulkar's supreme skill alone that kept him at bay! People who understand cricket will appreciate the tremendous contest between the best batsman in the world and the best bowler where neither gave ground! The ignorant readers who make sweeping comments without any appreciation of the finer aspects of cricket just reveal themselves as pitiable creatures(read maggots) who live in the darkness of their ignorance! Hope some light illumines their dense, foggy brains! Maybe chanting the Gayatri Mantra daily may help!

The first test's outcome was determined by the coin toss. Had SA batted first, India would be up 2-0. There is no stopping this Indian juggernaut.
Re: Re: Re: Re: India will win this test and the series
by Saravanan Subramanian on Jan 05, 2011 10:11 AM
I don't see any point in your argument. What Gurjot singh said is right. On the first day of first test, it just rained before we started to bat and the condition was very hostile to batting. So, if SA batted first, they too would have collapsed on that day. So, toss played a very crucial role in the first test. So, we shouldn't attribute the collapse on the first test first innings to Team's ability - that is unfair.

how can you record? where can u keep the record book? who are u to record?
Though Tendya played a good knock, what surprises all is why he inspite of playing so many matches cant have answers to Steyn bowling. He can pick his outswingers from outside off stump and clobber to onside right? Adam gilchrist, bradman, laxman are good at playing suck kind of outswingers, outside off rising deliveries by picking those from outside off stump and playing to onside area like pulling, driving etc

Re: Re: Tendya - interesting questions
by randhir reynolds on Jan 05, 2011 03:26 AM
He had to play this type of game because the situation demanded it. That's why he is the best there is. See Sewvag, he plays just one type of game and so you cannot depend on him. He is a good player, but if he scores he scores else he gets out for nothing. In a test match your skill is tested. You have to adapt and change according to the situation. Tendulkar did just that. Now a days a test finishes within 3 to 4 days because players dont have the ability to stick at the wicket or play according to the situatin and play a long innings. So enjoy the best while you can because once Tendulkar, Laxman and dravid go believe it or not you will never see that class in test matches ever. They are the last actual test players left in the game around the world and among all teams.
Re: Tendya - interesting questions

So what!! Dale Steyn is no 1 bowler in test cricket. It doesnt mean that if you have experience of too many matches means that you can score century/double century in each and every match by default. Cricket is a game where anyone who plays better will win.So it doesnt matter whether an highly experienced batsman fails against a novice bowler or a experienced bowler is hammered for too many sixes by a new comer batsmen(Shane warne though a good bowler was hammered for too many sixes by batsmen of Indian subcontinent). "The better you play than your opponents, you have every chance to win" this is the law of any game. Well every game is a new game and climatic conditions for every game at different venues are not same. Well you mentioned of other so many players in your post.I would say that Sachin is different from them. So how can you expect Sachin to play like those players. Every batsman has a different style. I hope that your curiosity is solved to a better extent.

people doubting sachin or bashing him are just born losers with mental imbalance... they need to bark like crazy street stray dogz at sachin to let our their frustration...
Steyn and co bowlers showed the art of consistent centered good length area(of the pitch map) bowling a mix of outswing, inswing, rising outgoing, incoming deliveries.
Thats what I have been saying since a long time that, Indian bowlers especially Sreeshant,Ishant who are both talented to learn the art of bowling consistent outswingers, late outswingers, inswingers, late inswingers etc from the center of good length area(of the pitch map). Unless our bowlers learns this art, learn to bowl like that regulary by looking and comparing their bowling against SA bowlers using videos, they cant be great strike bowlers and win matches for India.
Yesterday bowling by Steyn is a great lesson for any bowler(even aspiring) to learn the art of bowling and what it means bowling consistently from the center of good length area(of the pitch map).
Also, our bowlers should anaylze why they cant take wickets like SA etc by watching yesterday match video that depicts Steyn and co bowling.
In the 2nd innings of SA batting, our bowlers zak and Sreeshant getting clobbered all over the park is an indication that our bowlers lack the art the understanding of consistent centered good length area bowling(mix of outswingers, inswingers etc)

Maybe there is also the matter of bending the back. Steyn bowling upper 88,89,90,91 mph is more threatening than Zaheer who was today bowling 76, 77,78,79 mph rarely touching 80mph.
Re: Re: India Bowlers vs SA Bowlers
by PS on Jan 05, 2011 06:23 AM
Absolutely correct Also one point is that Bowlers of SA/AUS/ENG/WI have advantage of height hence they can generate good pace in bowling with bending their back while bowling. Bowlers from Indian subcontinent has to rely on shoulders hence cannot bend their back too often for generating pace and also their height is slightly above average.Hence our bowlers have to take precautions against shoulder injuries hence less speed.
Steyn and co bowlers should the art of consistent centered good length area(of the pitch map) bowling both outswing, inswing, rising outgoing, incoming deliveries.
