Disappointing statement from dhoni.
by Rajan S on Feb 10, 2011 11:37 PM  | Hide replies

his statement shows he has the fear of loosing. that is not a good mindset to have particularly when we go in to such a big tournament.
For him world cup might not be the final frontier but for millions and millions of fans like us, that is the first and formost goal to see india being crowned as the world champions

yeah ?. He is setting the expectations. No one can predict victory. one can try for it. But in India, failure in WC means stones and burning houses. We are getting as pathetic as the pu kes.

Varun:

Absolutely well said.... In today's competitive sport when there is very little to give or take between a "so called" number one and the number 6; anything can happen on a given day..

It is the impractical Team India and Dhoni fans who mistakenly believe that since we happen to be on the ICC #1 Test spot, we are the indomitable team Australia once was.
We aren't... and we'll really have to play our best in all matches to be anywhere even in the reckoning for the cup...

But keeping aside Indian fans immaturity, there isn't a bigger frontier right now in world cricket (till ICC introduces the oft mentioned Test World Cup)... so on that note Dhoni is giving slightly erroneous comments...

The one thing differs ...
by siva on Feb 10, 2011 11:34 PM

... from previous teams and the current team is that the young ones in the current team are not ready to surrender quickly as their predecessors, which might get the world cup.

india will win

If Sehwag, Sachin, Gambhir, Kohli, Y. Pathan, Dhoni and Bhajji are fit then India will score 375 or more in every single match. that should be enough to win the cup. it is OK to downplay the WC. In fact it is a very smart move on Dhoni's part. There is a very good reason why e is the best captain in the world.

3 sehwags will be total 60 runs... 2 yhvraj together another 25... 3 yusufs will be 50 total... that only makes it 135...

Stay healthy
by Gurjot Singh on Feb 10, 2011 10:56 PM

India can easily score 350 plus if Sehwag, Gambhir, Sachin, Dhoni, Yusuf are healthy. That should easily ensure winning the the WC. It is extremely smart on Dhoni's part to downplay the whole thing and remove pressure from his team mates. There is no stopping India this time, especially in front of home crowd at Wankhede. India will beat AUS/SL or whoever it is.

Ignore Sachin,he is just one in the team

MUMBAI: While appreciating the sentiments expressed by a few Indian cricketers, including skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, of the team wanting to win the World Cup for Sachin Tendulkar, former players were of the view that this should not take away the team's focus.

"It is a great gesture by the Indian team if they are dedicating the World Cup to Sachin. But they cannot afford to lose focus," former stumper Syed Kirmani, who was part of India's World Cup triumph in 1983, said.

"The focus has to be on the World Cup, not Sachin. They all should be aiming to play for the country. It is not Sachin...not Dhoni your captain you play for. It is the country you play for," he added.

Indian skipper Dhoni, and Delhi batsmen Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli are among the players who have said that they want to win the quadrennial event, the only glory missing from the champion cricketer's illustrious career.

Former India cricketer Lalchand Rajput, who was the coach of the Indian team that won the World T20 Championship in 2007, said announcing such intentions even before winning the Cup was not the right thing to do.

"These things should have never come up. Once they win the World Cup, then they can dedicate it. But right now the focus should be on winning the World Cup," he added.

I am sick of this dedication coming from every member and every day.I wouldn't mind India being without him in WC. We will be much better off.

Not the final frontier... BS
by Venkat Gopal on Feb 10, 2011 10:25 PM

@Arun, I agree. It's a ploy on Dhoni's part to downplay the whole thing so as to make sure he has soft landing when the inevitable happens, i am sorry to say, India's exit. It's one thing to be cool, calculating and not panic, but to be totally devoid of any aggression is beyond me. How i miss Sir Ganguly!! Venkat, US

If India wants to win World cup, don't play Chawla in playing 11. User Chawla only to bring water for players on the ground. He is good only for that. Please don't include him in the playing 11, so that India can win the world cup.

thanks Varun...:) But believe my words, we can easily win the world cup if we don't play Chawla in playing 11. Remember, our team was very strong in T20 world cup also, but Chawla was included and he went for many runs and we lost the match and were out of the T20 world cup.
