Indian Mentality
by sanath on Feb 05, 2011 02:51 PM

I see many of the Indians here in this forum are so blinded by our Indian mentality of running down successful ppl that they are blindly supporting even Chappell to talk rubbish about Sachin.

First of all, Chappell is all wrong when he says that he wanted Sehwag to open, as it was Uthappa who opened in the WC matches with Ganguly (except for one match).

Many of them have gone ahead and supported Chappell's opening theory of Sehwag and Ganguly, by justifyint that it is left-right combo, conveniently forgetting that Sachin is also a right handed batsman.

Also take into consideration that Sachin-Ganguly is the most successful opening pair in ODI history, and it makes no sense to change them for a major tournament like the WC (and that too to make Uthappa open in his place!)

Many have asked questions as to why Sachin could not have played at No. 4, my question is why shud he do so when he was doing excellently for India in the opening slot. Further my question is if Chappell didnt deem it right to force Sehwag (who is far more junior to Sachin), then how did he feel it correct that Sachin shud be forced ?

Ganguly who was a very successful captain was replaced by Dravid, who was not known to fit the ODI format very well, the juniors were juggled so much that none were sure of their place in the team and the settled seniors positions were shuffled around making Team India a very unsettled outfit that too just before the WC. So how does his theory become a sane one ?

Chappell 's Law of destroying career
by sadik aga on Feb 05, 2011 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

1. Irfan Pathan career destroyed by sending him one down.
2. Ganguly career as captain detroyed.
3. Kaif good feilder batsmen desroyed.
4. Dravid one day career was over stress during his tenure.
5. Yuvraj lost his touch during that tenure & still in search of form.
6. Tendulkar batting order was also disturbed by him.

Almost half of the team was affected during his tenure.

It was Captains responsibility to not the change the batting order. Chappels Job was only to coach & not to interfear in batting order. Sachin also could have denied the suggestion of Chappel but his nature to respect seniors was the reason to loose his concentration. I think still today also Sachin-Veeru or Sachin-Saurav are the best opeing pares India had.

Chappel's mission was to destroy India before the WC 2007 (otherwise India would have been a threat to Australia) and in that he won...He destroyed the future of Irfan Pathan by promoting him in the batting order instead of concentrate in bowling...Also, captain Dravid has changed the batting order by promoting himself in the opening slot...That time, India had openers like Sachin, Saurav, Sehwag and Uthappa...But, just before the WC, Dravid was playing in the opening slot...

Yea right. India looks good only on paper. I will not bet on india in any WC until every player plays his game as a team and not as an individual to raise his stakes. Cricket is just another sport.

Chappell and his theory !
by sanath on Feb 05, 2011 02:15 PM  | Hide replies

Somebody shud stone this guy for the way he is taking all of us for granted by blurting out stupid statements and expecting us to believe them !

1. "Sehwag didnt seem very keen". The most successful opening partnership in ODI history was that of Sachin and Ganguly. Also Sachin is far senior to Sehwag. This guy still left Sehwag alone becoz he didnt seem very keen, but forced Sachin to bat down the order, whereas it would have been easier to shift Sehwag down, as he was not in the best of form at that time, and also there was no need to tamper with the opening pair.

2. Somebody shud remind this guy that Sehwag opened only in one match, the remaining matches it was Uthappa who opened with Ganguly ! which means, Sehwag was already one down, and Sachin was replaced by a guy who was not even a regular in the Indian team then.

3. We had reached the 2003 finals even though we lacked in a genuine wicket keeper batsman and an all rounder. In 2007 just before the WC we have Dhoni who was firing all guns, and Irfan who could bowl well and bat okay, and this guy flirts with Dhoni's position in the team, and Irfan had to be sent home just before the tournament with all the repair that was done in his bowling and batting. Kaif who was an excellent prospect with the bat and with his fielding did not even get a call.

Any guy who feels that tampering with a winning team is ok just before a major tournament as the WC is dumb, legend or no legend. Peri

There was no need to appoint coaches for Indian team because well and rich experience reyired players like Mr. Kapildev , Sunil Gavaskar, and others are available who can do coaching very well but BCCI unnuecessarily appointing coaching for India team. The statement of Chapple is though true but what is not to repeat the history of the past .Is now he creating to disturb Indian team in tension. Every body knows clearly that Mr. Chapple is only person , who had ruined the crciket life of Mr.Ganguly bu quarrelling one and another point? after mentioning about Sachin Tandulkar , what he wants to prove. He should know that there is no future of future.

by nimbo pani on Feb 05, 2011 01:44 PM

we need to read between the lines at the same time putting sachin under pressure b4 the cup as he would be the main player ... its too late to disclose this , however what he suggested it could have worked and we would have qualified for atleast second round .. 2007 was most disappointing world cup i have ever seen and could not digest the fact that india was out in first round . all the best team india please win the cup this time
