Dhoni is not a proper test batsman.
by AmitkumarJha on Dec 28, 2011 02:36 PM  | Hide replies

Dhoni is an excellent one-day batsman undoubtedly. But he has no technique to play against quality bowling attack. This has been proved several times and it will be proved tomorrow as well. We are unfortunately going to lose the match tomorrow by more than 100 odd runs.

correct. no skill or temperment to play quality bowling overseas.

What would have happened to this team had warne macgill macgrath gillespe lee bichel etc would have played.

People learn how to raj. Mc grath is no magic bullet. Mcgrath can be played out as much as another bowler. But to do that one has to let go of some of the shots. For ex sachin .. he could counter mcgrath well when he could keep his nerve and not drive/push away from the body on the offside. And once settled, he did play mcgrath quite well. Your analysis is quite hollow.

He does not have as sound a technique as our top players. That is correct. But his issues in tests is not inability to play quality bowling as one of the prevalent myths, but confusion as to how to pace his innings. He has fared quite well in ODIs in these conditions and also when ball has done quite a bit. But there he had the sense to let go of some of the shots, which he does not demonstrate in tests. I see a confused dhoni in tests. Even the body language when he bats is something else. He is fighting some daemons in tests for sure.

Leadership
by raj iyer on Dec 28, 2011 02:34 PM

is in building teams and making fighters out of minnows. Let Dhoni prepare a team first and make them world beaters after troika retires. Having chamchas like raina around will not make life easy for Indian cricket.

dhoni is average keeper...poor batsman overseas...team leader???..there are several capable of that..he is only enjoying the benefits of a great readymade team put together in early 2000s. In this test also batting revolvs around sachin dravid and laxman..what will happen to your team leader after these guys finally retire?

Azhar's only contribution is his later years was match fixing and promoting mongia and jadeja. In fact mongia specialized in running out tendulkar...all time best indian keeper in my view is kirmani and sadanand vishwanath.

my dear vaidya ji...everyone in indian team has value..no question about it..but preparing dead track and fixing WC is not taking us ahead. Dhoni is not as high value player as sachin saurav laxman dravid etc etc..further level of competition has also diminished. Best Indian team was in 2003 WC and they did very well considering opposition then.

raj iyer ji, so far dhoni has proved better than saha, patel, karthik both in wicket keeping and batting both at home and abroad...and i dont why you want to take away credit from dhoni and claim wc was fixed...he has won away odi tournaments also and he has performed well in them also...like i said on one these pages he even started on a winning note abroad...he captained india to tri series win against aus, in aus with their best team and when they were no. 1 and we were without most of our seniors...and i have also given his batting performance in the tri series...

iyer bring patel, karthik or saha or anybody else let me assure you are not going to get a BETTER keeper and/or batsman than dhoni...

raj iyer, so go and check and compare dhoni record as a wicket keeper and batsman with those of sadanand vishwanath and kirmani both of whom you regard as better than dhoni....the results of the check will surprise and shock you...

and azhar may have been involved in spot fixing (not match fixing) and even if it is true it is silly to say that all the 300 plus odis and almost 100 tests were fixed..

Haha... What a logic?! The web is meant for that only... and its more of use when the keeper is attempting a diving catch so that it can stick to the hands... But its nowhere written that if the keeper is catching using the web he's a bad keeper... I would rather call them smart to use the web appropriately! And do you really think he does that always? I dont think so!

Poor test batting
by Suvir Suvir on Dec 28, 2011 01:59 PM

Average of 37 in 101 innings with major share of batting in subcontinent is very very poor...
I guess this is one of the most poor shows by no 6 indian batsmen in last 2 decades... I feel Uthappa can give better statistics in tests looking at his solid batting style....

I feel, we are just hoping for dhoni to click as he plays in ODI's but things are not working out......

Hey come on..... He is the guy who is supposed to have "single handedly" got all possible world cups & tournaments for India. He is supposed to be captain cool who motivates others. He is supposed to be the guy who is the reason for India being #1 in Tests/ODIs/T20s. He is supposed to be the reason why CSK won IPL/CLT20. He is supposed to be the past, present and future best captain, batsman, keeper {bowler? :)} of India......

What say Dhoni fantatics? Very crucial 6 runs by Dhoni right?? If India wins this match, u guys will say because of Dhoni's captaincy. If we lose, will u fantards blame him?

Jiju, I fail to understand where you got this information that dhoni ''single-handedly'' wins matches?

Yes many sachin fanatics have claimed sachin ''single-handedly'' wins matches? I dont think i have met anybody who claims dhoni wins matches ''single-handedlly''...

you are the first one who has made such a claim...

In fact i and many other dhoni fans have always given other 10 players their due credit...it is people like YOU who refuse to give ANY credit to dhoni when india wins and gives ALL blame to dhoni when india loses...

as far as i can see whenever we lose it is because of dhoni according to you and whenever we win it is because of other 10 players-- according to you...

if you follow my posts closely you should have noticed that i have always agreed to his shortcomings, lack of technique etc. and i never praised him for anything that he is not...i have never claimed that he is our best T20 players. i know his T20 record is not very flattering and he needs to do something about it...

but with whatever technique he has in his own maverick way he has played effective cricket and given results...

i have always admitted that there are people with better record, better talent and better technique than him...but it is also true that he has succeeded where players having above better 3 qualities than him have failed...

jiju. whatever he lacks in technique and talent he makes up with his winning attitude...his fighting spirit...he refuses to give up easily and fights till the last..and that is why he succeeds many times where players with better record, talent and technique do not succeed...

dhoni does NOT crumble under pressure and in fact as yuvraj openly acknowledged dhoni takes to pressure as fish take to water...dhoni THRIVES on pressure...in fact one can say that the pressure brings the best out of him...

in his career whenever he was given more and more responsibilities he did not shirk his work and he shone with additional responsibilities...the more responsibility you give him the more we see how strong he is mentally as well as physically...

in spite of all these responsibilities he is still the fittest of them all and rarely has to miss any match due to injury...

it is a shame that inspite of all qualities there are people like you who hate and abuse him...
