Sachin and Dravid represent the epitome of Mah culture- dedicated, devoted, disciplined such as contrast to the loutish northies who always get into some unseemly controversy or the other.

Everything is correct.. Very well said... But Sachin will remain well ahead then all those names you have mentioned like Kallis, Lara, Pontings, Mahela Trott (hahahaha)... It doesn't matter what you think, but its matter what the whold world think...

Always the whole world cannot think right. So,Dravid is the best player under pressure in test match cricket these days for India.

Sachin is a good batsman, but more of hype. This has been created for commercial reasons ably supported by Gavaskar.

So whats your problem with Gavaskar at least he had the b@11z to face West Indian quicks without a helmet, not a s1_1cker like you.
We need to shift our focus from batting to bowlers. India needs to get out of this mentality and thinking that batting is our main strength. Groom young bowlers in their teens.
Like Akram said of Varun Aaron and Shami Ahmed that the time is just right to pick them up and through theminto the intl. arena rather than make them wait and play the domestic cricket on lifeless pitches.
Considering the volume of cricket we play we need to have a pool of 5/6 quality pace bowlers who won't lose steam easily and a back up of 3/4 who can stand up incase of an injury. Also we need to ensure a regular flow of atleast 1/2 young pacers every alternate seasons.
Its the bowlers that win the matches be it a test or an ODI. Everytime you can't score 300plus in ODI or 500plus in a test.
What's the guarantee that the current bowling will win us the games even if the batsmen put up big totals.
Now don't go and say that the same unit won us the world cup. We could hv lost to Bangladesh and had nearly lost to England.
Groom young pacers and try and unearth genuine pacer bowlers.

When Saurav Ganguly had taken the captaincy of Indian team from Azhar the team was a depleted one without motivation and self confidence... He guided the team to the right direction, filled the team with hunger to win, killer instinct etc... He introduced new players like Sehwag, Zaheer,Yuvraj, Harbhajan, Kaif, Dhoni etc and made them mentally and physically strong to compete with world champions like the aussies and South Africa... He always stood with his young brigade and at the same time, accepted suggestions from senniors like Sachin, Kumble and Srinath when required... So, it took years to build a strong Indian team...Now, what happened??? Still, the current captain Dhoni was not able to groom any new players and plays with the same players Ganguly introduced. Now, BCCI is the main culprit to destroy team India to this nadir...I dont understand what was the need of IPL this year immediately after the world cup... When T20 was introduced, players like Sachin, Dravid and all announced that they are not ready to play T20. But, BCCI made these players as icon players and offered crores to them and pressured to play IPL. When players play in IPL then their aim is to play 4's and 6's only.... They wont be able to adjust to the longer versions easily and thatz y this humiliating defeat. On the other hand, English players withdrawn from IPL and aimed for this series only... India was with over confidence and thought they can beat england very easily...
Except the 136 run knock in 1999 at Chennai test against Pakistan & a few ODI knocks like the 2003 World Cup against the same oppn. Sachin has only been successful in the subcontinent. Whenever India is looking to save a test or bat through the day 8/10 times he has failed.
Dravid on the other is the unsung hero. Has saved India so many times that u find it diff.which is his best knock. Also everybody reemembers VVS knock of 281 at the Kolkata. But Dravid's 180 was equally imp.
Also during the last inngs. in the 4th test Sachin showed the will to stay and played shots unlike the previous inngs. as he had the chance to complete his 100/100.

" If I had announced my retirement when I wasn't being picked people might have turned around and asked, 'Well, you're announcing your retirement from what?'' If you are not going to be picked in any case, what's the point of retiring?"------Man, you are great and India will miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!
HE MAY NOT HIT 100 CENTURIES.. HE MAY NOT HAVE MORE TV COMMERICIALS.. HE MAY NOT HAVE MUCH PUBLICITY AS OTHERS..
BUT RAHUL DRAVID IS A REAL HERO..
AFTER HIS DEBUT IN ENGLAND(1996)... INDIAN TEAM STARTED WINNING TEST MATCHES ABROAD..SOME TIMES SERIES AS WELL VERY GUTSY AND COMPACT PLAYER..ALWAYS TRIED TO IMPROVE HIS GAME..

yup he is best test player for India. From my point of view also.. His temperament is outstanding.

What I would love him is He never thought like he is superior and always learning the game.
He is trying to contribute to the team or else he is leaving the place.
Where as Tendulkar is real nuisance to the team.He doesn't have the potential to play in foreign soil but he won't give give his place to anybody, simply occupying the slot and spoiling Team India.
Definitely Indian Team may require Dravid service for another 3 Years.
Please Mr.Dravid be in the team play as much as possible you can.

I AM A GREAT FAN OF DRAVID COMPARED TO TENDULKAR. But it is unfair to comment on Tendulkar like for his failure in two or three tests. He has done a great job and brought fame to Indian Cricket and he got records which can not be beaten in the near future by any body. Let us admire Rahul as he is a self less cricketer and a great team player. He should not have been sent in the second innings as opener again and he needed the rest.

HA.. HA.. HA.. RECORDS BUILT BATTING FIRST. WHEN CRUNCH TIMES CAME SACHIN FALTERED AND DRAVID STOOD THE GROUND..
ALWAYS CHK THE RECORDS IN QUALITY NOT IN QUANTITY.
despite having 10,000 plus ODI scores, 12,000 test runs, this champion called Dravid had to keep his fingures crossed before the team selection for ODI side for each series. That is the absurdity of Indian Selectors where the greats like Dravid spent his cricketing career with uncertainty and insecure feelings!
Re: Dravid
by srirama rao on Aug 24, 2011 12:44 PM
this is absolutely correct and he has achieved lot in one day internationals and his strike rate is as good as any other one day player in India. Any way he called it a day after the present series
