I think now BCCI should take steps to scrap 5 Day test matches. The present Indian test team is good one and we will not be able to produce a better team thank this in the next 10 years to beat teams like England, Australia & SA. Therefore, it is better to ban Test Cricket for a while.

Whoever is saying that the players were tired and are playing too much cricket.. Let us get the facts clear.. Did Mukund, Dravid, Laksham, Ishant, Praveen play in the world cup ?? Did Zaheer, Sachin and others play in West Indies.. What tiredness are we talking about ??
We destroyed West Indies, but never became no. 1. Aussies became no. 1. After 10 years, we destroyed Aussies and then for a moment became no.1 but were not the best team there. But a deserving team has become no. 1. With lack of bowlers we can never be the best team. Now, for the money, BCCI more worried, will plan lot more test matches against B'desh, Zimbabwe and force ICC to give Kenya test status and organize test against them and make sure India becomes no. 1. But still it will never be the best team until we have some great bowlers

Well going by that logic, nor does england which cannot play spin at all. But i am sure you have no problem calling them No 1. lol.

Are you saying India has some good spinners to bother the English? If you are thinking of Harbajan as a spinner, you are still in early 2000. Harbajan is done. If India unearth some good spinners and have a few fast bowlers, yes India will become and stay no. 1

I am saying england cannot even play decent quality spinners on wickets that suit spin. England is a good side only in conditions that suit them. So going by your logic they donot deserve to be No 1 either.

Not only we need good, consistent bowlers. Our fielding must be sharper too.
We need YOUNG and STRONG legs also. Our average TEAM age is too high and lacks to take the challenge seriously. We have sufficient young players to take place of Tendulkar, Sehwag, Dravid, Bhaji, and other who have been consistently failing.
I am very sure India will not loose much than what has already been lost by letting the old & tired legs go. On contrary they should gracefully retire like the olden days.
India's problem started with the SA tour first when Zaheer was unable to play the entire series and India lost the first Test in SA without Zaheer.
The the WC was plagued with India losing to England giving up 334 runs and then to SA again. With an ill-planned schedule it continue to lack the punch in the bowling department, but luckyly Yuvraj and a heavy batting lineup finally helped India win the cup where the seniors players played their role.
The WI tour was a disastor because India let up in the 1-day series and also in the Test series where Dhoni was not assertive.
The chronic absences of the senior players became evident when Sehwag picked up a golden pair without much match practice.
Regardless of the schedule, the senior players must make the tours and play part of the matches and gradually try out youngsters to give them intermittent chances rather than wholesale changes full of youngsters.
india playing excessive cricket no doubt on that ( what about the ipl circus ),zaheer khan, sreesanth, harhajan, yuvraj, gambhir, sehwag all carried injuries, to beat the english team (they are playing the best cricket)is next to impossible. zaheer & harhajan should not be in the team in the first place. in india we have different yardsticks for different players.for people like sachin, dhoni, harbhajan, zaheer the criteria is different. as a matter of fact if sachin is the aussie team he would have been forced to retire, in india he will keep on playing till he achieves all individual records.rahul & laxman should always perform in tests that is the criteria for these 2 players, we should now start look beyond these 2 players.for players like parthiv patel,Badrinath, kaif, virat, rohit, irfan, ohja, amit mishra, ashwin etc there are different yard sticks.GANGULY WAS FORCED TO RETIRE,sanjay bangar was forced out even though he was performing well, WHY SACHIN IS NOT VACATING ATLEAST IN ONE DAY CRICKET, HE SHOULD TAKE A LEAF FROM DRAVID'S BOOK & ANNOUNCE HIS RETIRMENT FROM ONE DAY CRICKET.

very true. srikkanth is justified in stating that the batting hasn't clicked because that's the truth. the england lower order has accumulated more runs than the indian top order in this series.
