SRIKKANTH is totally off mark
by Rajesh Sanghvi on Aug 14, 2011 10:19 PM  | Hide replies

Main Reason for the defeat is the poor bowling. The pitches on which the matches were played were sporting & the maximum score against a good bowling attack should have been 250 to 300. But England were able to score in excess of 400, 500 & 700 shows that India did not have the bowling attack as capable as England for those pitches. Also our bowling attack ran out of steam after having England in trouble 2-3 times in the series. We did not have that extra which the England bowlers had. I wonder if England will have similar pitches if they are playing against South Africa / Australia or even Pakistan.

Nope he is completely right. Bowling wasn't that great but they were always bowling without any cushion.

If the batting would have put up 500 runs, the story of the series would have been very different..

Indian Cricketers play for money .. just like politicians ..
by SekharaM on Aug 14, 2011 09:57 PM

When one is making money by playing IPL, why risk injury or even work hard to do well for India? A place in the Indian team is the passport for high fees in IPL .. performance is not.
If you had sent a bunch of young players from India, they would not have fared worse in the England series. We do not need MasterBlaster, TheWall, Turbonator etc. to surrender so pathetically in England. However, I want India to continue playing in England .. for the sake of records .. when India loses Tests by 0-4 and One dayers by 0-5. Twenty-twenty is a toss up.. whether India loses or England allows them a consolation win.
Good luck India.. please make the last Test a 3-day affair, so that you can have an extra day to enjoy the English summer with your families.

Poor team selection and dirty politics.
by Praveen Kumar on Aug 14, 2011 09:42 PM  | Hide replies

I had some kind of respect on Srikanth till recently, but completely lost ever since he played some dirty politics for England tour selection. He, in fact whole India is paying the price. I still don't digest why Rayudu not been chosen for the tour, he would have definitely made some difference.

so whom will rayudu replace in the indian team ? dravid ,tendulkar, laxman, raina or dhoni ?
he can't replace raina as raina can bowl as well , which is important from india's perspective considering some bowler gets injured.
if you think he should replace some opening batsman , then go learn your test cricket. dont comment for the heck of it

Batting hasn't clicked in the series: Srikkanth

Can Srikkanth answer why his committee has selected unfit players like Zaheer Khan and Sehwag for the series? Also, why give a free picnic everytime to Saha? Also, why this bias certain players like Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu? Can Srikkanth answer these questions. Also, he says batting has not clicked? What about bowling and fielding? Dravid keeps dropping catches in the slip, both in the West Indies as well as in England. Yet he continues to stand in the slips? Why? How many more catches he should drop and how many more matches India should lose before Dravid moves out of the slip cardon? What is the highly paid coach doing? Sleeping in the dressing room?

true but who else can field in the slip? VVS always has his hands in his pocket. Sachin said no to slip position. Others are not trained slip fielder. Raina is for Gully or Back short leg.. who left?

And what is Dhoni doing as wicket keeper? He is letting the simplest catches go for slip when he can easily move and grab those..

The committee selects players only after a fitness report has been submitted by the player. Dravid holds the record for most catches in tests and I don't see how any selector can be held responsible for players dropping catches nor is srikkanth responsible for fielding positions. If you think fielding is an issue then we need to get rid of our tendulkars, laxmans and dravids. But will you be okay with that ?No! then this whole thing about performance and not age will crop up.

instead of blaming ipl, bcci and the players who have not at all played at ground, it is unfair to blame srikkanth. Is dhoni, dravid, tendulkar, ghambir, shevagh, harbhajan, sreesanth, yuvraj, raina, kholi are all tamil players. there won't be any ipl in next 5 years.it is sure.

India's fall
by Viswanathan on Aug 14, 2011 09:21 PM

It is sad to see India fall from grace in England series. Reasons for the fall are many fold. Excepting Dravid and Laxman all key players like Sehwag, Gambhir and Zaheer Khan were coming back from injuries and long lay offs. Though Zaheer showed his class when he bowled 13 odd overs and produced two wickets in the Lord's test his loss had the greatest impact in bowling. Similarly bad opening starts did not allow Dravid, Tendulkar and Laxman to build big scores. More than that the main difference in the first two tests was the batting of lower order for England. As India has lost the top position in test cricket it is the best time to rebuild the team by infusing players like Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ashwin in the coming series against WI in India followed by series in Australia.

Zaheer is unfit then he is unfit..
by Ram Shyam on Aug 14, 2011 09:16 PM

Then why was he selected? Wasn't BCCI aware that he looked fat and out of shape and should have made him go through vigorous fitness test?

I hear from friend of mine who knows Sachin and his family that Sachin never been to the single practice session or to Gym, since the finish of worldcup. And he went straight to England to play Test cricket..

For such important series, shouldn't the BCCI and players be smarter and make sure we're extra prepared to battle and retain our ranking?
