Dont you know Ganguly recommended Chapell and wanted him to tow his lines. Chapell called ganguly's bluff and resented. What followed was a fight and dissension. Obviously that was the reason of downfall of Indian cricket.Wake up dude to your senses.

Give us a break
by Rishi Poddar on Apr 07, 2011 05:27 PM  | Hide replies

Greg was the most destructive force to have hit Indian cricket. His man management skills were extremely poor and he wanted the spotlight on him. He made India's best batsman, Sachin, feel out of place in the team and led to his test average go down to below 40 for the first time in his career. Look how Sachin and others have performed in the last few years. Bayliss is completely wrong.

@ Rishi
Ganguly and other players were taking their places for granted in the team. If not how will you keep a captain who has not scored for 2 years in the team.

Chappel a blessing in disguise
by SUBROTO RAY on Apr 07, 2011 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

Ganguly recommended Greg Chapell and that is a fact. Chapel and Ganguly brought Indian cricket to shambles. Please note that it takes 2 hands to clap. Indian cricket has flourished post Ganguly and Chapel. This has been the turning point. Long live Indian cricket.

Chappal
by Nitin Dabadghav on Apr 07, 2011 05:21 PM

He worked more with the Indian media than the Indian cricket team. What would a man who suggested to bowl an underarm last ball to his brother, teach a sincere Indian cricketeer.

Chappell was excellent!!
by Indian on Apr 07, 2011 05:15 PM

Chappell was an excellent coach who knew what Indian team needed to win big games.
He did away with many dead woods in the game and brought in young blood.
Alas some could not digest this and had to resort to politics to get him overthrown.
If today India are world champions, then part of the credit goes to Greg Chappell.

BCCI should consider appointing Chappell as the coach once again.
He is currently the best coach in world cricket. Period...

Chappell and Gavaskar
by pawarush@rediffmail.com on Apr 07, 2011 05:09 PM

of the same mold ... egoistic and selfish players with some talent. Overrated otherwise. Chappell helped himself to some easy money doled out by the corrupt BCCI, hired his buddies to milk BCCI, promoted his sports company and left. Only in India, with a billion cricket crazy fans, craving for top recognition in world cricket, that we persist with the babu mentality in hiring foreign coaches.

Greg Chappel's contribution to the Indian team
by Bibek Gupta on Apr 07, 2011 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

Its a joke of the century to say Chappel helped the Indian team. He destroyed the team spirit, unity, cohesiveness and camaraderie between players of the Indian cricket team by the time old colonial policy "Divide and rule"in the way of promoting Dravid against Ganguly. A good player like Ganguly was vilified unnecessarily as was subsequently proven by Ganguli's resurgence as a player against South Africa and Pakistan till his self enforced retirement from cricket.
The best way Chappel can be remembered is that he actually helped the Australian team by excelling in his mission as a "Troajan Horse"to destroy the Indian team.

ganguly was good player, but he has his own attitude problems.
That caused rift between him and Greg. Sometimed in india cricket comes second to individuals personality for eg. ganguly.

Yes, Chappell did play a part in India's success and that, too, by parting the Indian team and nothing else.
