I don't understand why Sanga, mahela or the selection committee should resign. Everybody knows that there would be only one winner and both teams must have played good cricket to reach the finals.
In this case, SL had put up the highest first innings total for a final match. May be they were handicapped because of the absence of Mathews and half fitness of Murali.
India won the match thanks to their batting strength, I would say.
There is nothing to blame these people that they resign from their roles.
Would we have expected Mahi, Viru to resign had India lost the finals..??? At least I don't expect them to do so.

It is in fact wise on their part to resign lock stock and barrel and help a new captain take over their reigns along with new vice-captain. A new leader brings in new ideas. It is only at the fitness of things, that he gets to pick his deputy to implement things his way. In any case, it would take atleast a few years to build the core of the future Srilankan world cup team. So, why not start with a clean slate? The idea is brilliant and the farsighted approach of Sangakara deserve to be lauded.

I respect your views though I still stick to my opinion. Overnight a captain, vice-captain need not be at fault.

Thanks for agreeing to disagree. I never said the captain or vice-captain are at fault. Srilankan team has performed quite well in the tournament. Sangakara's captaincy was also good. If you notice, sangakara said that he would be 37 years old by the time the next world cup comes around, and he was not sure about his automatic selection to the team. When he is not confident of playing in the next world cup, he has decided to relinquish captaincy and play as an ordinary member of the team. (This would give the new captain a considerable time to build the team before the next world cup) It is unselfishness on Sanga's part and this I feel should be appreciated.
1. 1st host team to win WC on home soil . 2. 1st team to win and chase above 275. 3. 1st team to win with six in finals 4. 1st team to make a century holder lose finals. 5. 1st team to be confused by opposition and convinced for re-toss in finals. SL cannot digest all this. hence resignations
I have full recording of final match.. watching is again and again but I can not find a single frame where Sri Lanka wanted to Win the match. I wanted them to play at their full potential then my joy would have been much more. Looking at history, in a big game like WC final, Sehwag out for 0, Sachin out for 18.. and still there is no panic! It is not possible withough favour from opposite captain.

If you want to find all dam reasons, 1000 of such reasons can be placed on the table. The simple thing is that panic cannot bring the result, rather it creats nervousness, and as a result the defeat is sure. But on a contra, if the players play boldly, then there is every chance of winning. The third thing cannot happen. Therefore, India need appreciation, and the negative persons should be depreciated.

I suggest, go to youtude and watch highlights of 1996 final and this final, you will get the answer. Normally, for any simple match also, captain takes time to set field when 52 runs are needed in 50 balls and new batsman is in crease.

Why you bring Indian in toto ! I am accountable for myslef not for you and anybody else ! The simple thing is that we won the game, because we played much better than Lankans. That's all.
There is nothing certain in, at least, Cricket. It's not time to QUIT but it's the RIGHT TIME to learn from MISTAKES, correct them and get ahead and enjoy playing. Sportsmen should NEVER quit. Just play and enjoy the GAME.
it was under prepared pitch. anyway SL cricket is heading towards pre 1996 days. we beat them in Asia cup in their home ground and now the world cup by chasing.
8)Mr president observed a few days back that“I like to tell my Indian friends that 20 million from our small country, took a step back to allow 1.2 billion Indian people to enjoy some happiness, for the second time since 1983,” What was he trying to say I mean was sri lanka trying to gift the cup to INDIA & sachin..??? 9)I don’t know wether anybody would have observed CLIve Lloyd in the presentation ceremony. The man was just distraught.I guess there was no reason for him to feel that way if the match was played in the right spirit of the game. He surely represents the brand of clean cricket and I felt he was trouble to think in the direction the sport was moving… 10)Sangakara, Selectors and now Jaywardene resigned, I would not be surprsied if we are in store for more surprises… Iam an indian and I desperately wanted INDIA to win the CUP, and I sincerily do believe that all this which I have written should not be true…but if there is some element of truth in it, then its ia black day for cricket.i desperately wamted sachin and we indians to be happy as we were after winning the cup after 28 years..but should not be at the cost of somebody gifting the cup by pitying on us !!!

Even the match with Pakistan seems to some doubts about Paki Players.Leaving 4 ctaches of sachin and just saying we have not allowed to score 100. Matter to be think about.

I am very surprised that after India has won WC by hard work which has shown on the field on the face of every indian player, why are people from other coutries who lost to india giving such vague statements ?

except for dhoni.. none of the players were aware of what was cooning at their backs...
yes yes.. what stupid game of cricket.. Even the dump ass knows that the game of cricket of world cup was stagemanaged by the money houses to ensure India wins as there is so much of money at stake in the home country..,now imagine since 1983.. in 7 world cups Indian never won any.. 28 years and now because IPL sic omign thousands of crores to be spend and won and made.. pay the srilankan players much more than they would win by winnign the world cup.. and the CUP is indias.. In brief India wins the coffee cup and Srilanka wins the tea cup..
