Why not Irfan?
by vishu yadav on May 11, 2010 04:18 PM

India won 1st T-20 WC and our bowling combo in middle overs was bhajji-irfan bowling tight lines and drying up the flow of runs. he hasn't been picked up then for two consecutive WC's considering his batting potencial. he is certainly better than current so-called all-rounder Mr. jadeja who already costs us 2 WC exits. ( Remember he failed to play well against England in last WC in front of in form yuvi) I think Irfan will prove a great allrounder considering the form of his brother, Rohit sharma and even M. Vijay. Cause India could have send Rohit to open the innings instead of Vijay and included irfan in place of jadeja. One more person truly deserved the place was Robin. I feel bad for those two players despite of performing well.

He now bowls at toddlers pace
by pradeep agarwal on May 11, 2010 03:51 PM

He no longer command respect from batsmans at inetrnational level. They treat him with disdain & it is better that he bowls against minnows in IPL & make his killing thanks to past laurals.

"TO the anti-South Indian Brigade"
The problem with this country is that everyone thinks they are an expert on cricket - every single person wants to believe that they could have done a better job with the selection. Why don't you get it into your heads that this is a game - winning and losing is a part of it. Maybe a cricketer will be good on one day and bad on the other. Murli Vijay is on his first tour - the very first of his life - and he is expected to perform at his best. Now, if only he had failed and the rest had performed well - then what you say, may have merit.

It's difficult to drive sense into numbskulls who believe they know who should be opening and who would have performed. I am glad that you people are not on the selection panel. Then, God help us all.

If you are really sensible, you will point out the failure of the team as a whole and not one or two batsmen. But that I guess can be expected of people who are more driven towards cricket than crass regionalism - which again reflects a very ridiculous small-minded mentality.

Please grow up.

Gambhir proved himself in 1997 when India wins First 20-20 World Cup. and also during recent New Zealand Tour and Sri Lanka Tour. No need to point fingers towards Gambhir. What about vijay his batting required by the team badly he falters. There is no comparison.

You cannot score runs and play well in the first chance given to you and then say i am South Indian, you are North Indian there is no meaning in it. Then Chief Selector Srikkanth is South Indian so why he selecting North Indian players like Gambhir or Sehwag, Raina. He would have sent a team from Chennai to play World cup. Dont unneccesary get ur self into regionalism. All the players playing continously for more than three years and are in the team because they are performing. Gambhir is out of form he is a natural hooker and puller. When he was in form Gambhir did jump like he does yesterday he might have hooked it to six. Then u Say North Indians fail u say they are out of form and if South Indians fail then you say they are not good. Vijay had talent but he must prove it. Suresh Raina( North Indian) is alo playing well. Players are selected to play not for holidaying. There is difference between Srinivas and Vijay Okay.

So what's your point? That he (Vijay)has to do well - when everyone else is playing badly? Rohit Sharma is playing well after flopping in previous chances given to him. Give people their time to get adjusted to the big stage. And before you write a whole dramatic paragraph about regionalism, stay true and don't get into it yourself...

I want Srilanka to win today.

Reason: This Indian team full of losers led by a coward and ordinary cricketer-Dhobi, do not deserve to in semi. They must know their real values.

Irfan --not required
by LG on May 11, 2010 03:29 PM

Just because he is not part of losers playing in T20 world does not mean he should be the automatic choice.

are we looking for quick fix? Just because some people think he is better than Jadeja, does he deserve the place in the team.

Is it a good idea-replacing a failed cricketer with another failed cricketer? What don't we look for talented young fast bowlers?

For examples; Umesh Yadav, Abu Nicham.

Obsession with discarded players like Irfan, Uttapa, Sreeshant is beyond my understanding?

Do you people--fans-things that there is dearth of talented young upcoming cricketers in India.

Please stop voicing for discarded players.

IRFAN PATHAN
by JAGADRAKSHAKAN on May 11, 2010 03:13 PM

It appears MSD does not like IP.So MSD is only interested to take his chamchas like Jadeja and yousuf. Both have failed miserably in all their matches.Still they find favour from their captain.Irfan is a good all rounder.Though his speed is in the range of 120 t0 125 kms he swings the ball well.He will be usefull in the middle order also.Since MSD may continue to be the captain for some more years,IPs career is over.

irfan pathan

irfan first learn to bowl at a speed of 140 and above then his case will be considered. With a pace of mere 120 and 125 how he expects to get chance into the team.

Boss, go n search entire india, you won't find a single bowler consistently reaching 140kmph. Its hard in Indian conditions and excess cricket. You got to be very selective with bowling. Our selectors should preserve fast bowlers so that they will be always fresh. See the list who started bolwing @140kmph and then dropped .. Zaheer, nehra, munaf, irfan, ajit agarkar, RP singh, Ishant Sharma and this will never end.

Just as Praveen Kumar has...or for that matter RP Singh had...Irfan can bowl decently (at least better than Praveen and RP and surely better than Jadeja) and also can bat decently and sensibly.

Irfan is a genuine all-rounder, if some one can bowl at 100 and take some wickets and bat handy is suit to the current team as no one does in that slot. People say he was reduced speed and many stuff, but as long as if Irfan takes the wicket at an average economy rate and bats well its good for the team.

It’s not worth someone can bowl at 160 at a economy 8 and not much wickets will not have any benefit to the team.

See JK from South Africa bowls at 120 , and Watson many such examples….but its some one playing grudge over Irfan, its could be Dhoni or Srikanth or both

Yes, irfan is a genuine allrounder. But look at the IPL matches he gave away runs when 11 runs needed in last over, he also gave away runs when 18 runs needed in one over that is pathetic. Atlest he must practice to bowlers swinging bowls like Praveen Kumar so that it can offer some variety. Flat straight bowls without pace means a big six.

Before 2 sixes hit by Dhobi in IPL of Irfan.. There was chances of catch in the same over of the bowling of Irfan, which could have ended the chances of CSK there if the catch was taken and Irfan may not have been criticized for that and Many people don't remember that.
