Right choice
by raj on May 12, 2010 07:45 PM

I was a huge fan of Irfan even beofre making in International debuet. But I think his concentration on batting killed his greatest asset swing bowling. A person who can swing bowl on dead pak pitches is not there. He should not be selected until he becomes a good bowler again. I hate to select players for wrong reasons, Bowler who can bat and vise versa.Irfan primary role is a bowler and he should prove himself as bowler to get a place and all the cry of state politics is waste. He should get entry by HIGHWAY (i.e performing) not because someone else failed. His current bowling form makes him a ordinary bowler even at state level team.Sorry Irfan

Irfan Pathan and other Discraded Players--not required
by LG on May 12, 2010 04:42 AM  | Hide replies

Just because he is not part of losers playing in T20 world does not mean he should be the automatic choice.

are we looking for quick fix? Just because some people think he is better than Jadeja, does he deserve the place in the team.

Is it a good idea-replacing a failed cricketer with another failed cricketer? What don't we look for talented young fast bowlers?

For examples; Umesh Yadav, Abu Nicham.

Obsession with discarded players like Irfan, Uttapa, Sreeshant is beyond my understanding?

Do you people--fans-things that there is dearth of talented young upcoming cricketers in India.

Please stop voicing for discarded players.

hey didnt u read this???
irfan overcame recent injury setbacks and came up with a good showing in the Indian Premier League [ Images ] last month. He finished with 15 wickets from 14 matches and also played a stellar role with the bat, scoring 276 runs in 14 matches, to follow up on a good season in domestic cricket for Baroda.

The left-hander was the leading run-scorer (397 runs at 49.62) and wicket-taker (22 wickets at 18.54) for Baroda in the Ranji Trophy last season.

note the words leading runscorer and leading wicket taker for his team this ranji season. and he was some two or three matches didnt play due to injury...
is this not enough for a player to be in the squad or atleast in the second grade squad for zim tour??

he is an allrounder and not a bowler.. u should understand this...
and india needs a pace allrounder.. clearly he must be the choice... and he should have encouraged by giving chances.... can u say the last match he played for team india?? tests- april 2008, odi-feb 2009!! now its may 2010!! you never gave him a chance and you are blaming him???

Today you want young talents like Umesh Yadav, Abu Nicham in the team; a couple of bad series and you would another young player. I really don't understand your logic, how does a player losses his YOUTH by some bad performances. Care to explain pls.

No way.. He can better try to become a opening batsman and a bowler who can bowl 3 to 4 overs.. He can never become Irfan Pathan of 2003-2005 in his entire life from now... As a batsman, he is still very good..

he is a senior for (junior) team for zim series and junior to be selected for regular team. Bad luck irfan, but lets hope this new team brings new hopes for indian pace club.

No point in getting angry, we come across somany politics/cheats in our day to day life and so its irfan's turn now.

Irfan - A talent that Selectors have to recognize Show Confidence
by safeel ahmed on May 11, 2010 10:22 PM  | Hide replies

Irfan - A talent that Selectors have to recognize Show Confidence. He was considered as the upcoming Gr8est all rounder of Indian Cricket and also he was labeled an all-rounder and often promoted in the batting order in Greg Chappel era.
Do not forget his achievement , there are lots and lots, Few to be named will be The Fastest Hatrick, The Win he gave team India in Perth, or taking 4 for 16 in the Finals of T20 world cup. As he has also opened the batting in Test Match also..
As he was out of Form an having Lack of Confidence the Selectors have to Give faith and show confidence in him.
What more has he to prove . Being the best Batsman and bowler in Ranji for Baroda or his Good All round performance in IPL 3.
The only option now will be for Irfan is to Either Join the Tamil Nadu Team ( To impress the selector - Mr. Srikanth ) or go to chennai Super Kings ( To Impress Mr . Captain and the Selector).

But I have confidence seeing the determination of Cricket in Irfan Pathan hi will surely make a comeback.

I just checked with Srikanth. Sorry! there is no place for Irfan. No one else could have bailed out Chennai Super Kings they way Irfan did in Dharmasala. So, it is better for Chennai that he stay with some other team. Good Luck

Irfan is not from Tamil Nadu and also he is not playing for chennia superkings. As per Srikanth, he won't consider Irfan because of these reasons. Srikanth is planning to select his son Anirudh as an allrounder for india.

Not correct yar. Let's think beyond this state feelings. I don't think Srikanth would have selected this guy even if he is from TN. His role is a bowler and he is not bowling well acpt the fact. If he becomes 50% of what he used to bowl then he deserves a place.

Iam from Mumbai and I fail to understand your brainy logic of hindi and cricket... This is cricket we are talking about and not your dhobi ghat!

How about your over hyped Yusuf Pathan and ravindra jadeja from Gujrat.. Both are fit for Ranji games only.. Also add Zaheer Khan to this . Fit for IPL games only. Fast bowlers love the pace and bounce of Kensington Oval, except the great Zaheer Khan!

How many chances we should give him, Okay he started young, he got all the fame, money, in fact he get it more than he deserve. If he not able to digest his success, is it our fault, Good Decision by selectors to keep him out. It send messages to others if you want to keep your place in playing eleven better keep performing, Money, Fame, Women will follow, or you are out Other player also need chance and grooming to become successful players, Keep the good work Selector better kick out Zaheer, also in all key matches he had below average performances, just look the stats

It is easy to criticize bowlers who have been below par on this event. The main problem is the board officials does not know how to handle such players. Money, fame, women that comes as a secondary part when the players performs in their respective fields and become successful. This T20 format is such a format that every teams are favorites and have to be quick to adjust and react to the situation. As far as Irfan Pathan is concerned, he should be given a chance to prove himself on international stages and he has done well on big stages.
It is very sad that batsman are getting best treatment than bowlers in Indian cricket team.
