Mithun looks every bit a fast bowler
by saahil k on Jan 31, 2010 09:43 AM

Finally, a six-pack abs fast bowler for India. Mithun looks every bit a fast bowler- tall, broad-shouldered and strong at such a young age. He muscles in to bowl and has splendid short-pitched balls as well as yorkers. If groomed properly, I guess he should be a success at the highest level of cricket.

Unfair to Vinay Kumar
by Boodeppa prabhukumar on Jan 29, 2010 11:35 AM

I think Vinay kumar who was second in the Charts of the most wickets this Ranaji Season, 1 behind Mithun,he has better bowling strike rate and better average than Mithun ,also he did not play in one of the matches. had he played he would have taken more than 50 wickets,he also got a five for in the first innings of Duleep trophy semifinals. Another advantage of having Vinaykumar would have been his batting, he is quite a good lower order batsmen scored a fifity and almost scored a fifty in the first innings of Duleep trophy semifinals

Indian team selection

It is nice to see a young fast bowler A.Mithun got a chance in the test matches. Whether he clicks or not time will tell. But Parthiv Patel is deserved to be in the team. How, they choose Saha over Patel is just surprising. In the middle order Mohd.Kaif should have given a chance he batting extremely well. Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma will have to wait further. Badrinath deservingly got his place.
I think selectors tried and tired of M.M.Patel& R.P.Singh, Ashsih Nehra, Even Sreesanth has not done well in Bangladesh. Except in the last one hour of the Game in the 2nd test.Zaheer Khan is also looked like ordinary bowler. So does Harbhajan Singh.

Kaif should have been in the team!
by Talisman on Jan 29, 2010 11:13 AM  | Hide replies

Indian selectors are completely out of it. Mithun deserves his chance - because of his performance - not because of his age.

However, it is baffling that the Boards president's XI will have Suresh Raina playing against SA and not Mohammed Kaif.

Kaif has scored a double century and a century back to back within the last two weeks. Suresh Raina runs away from fast bowlers. Cant understand this!

You should select players that can win matches. Not because your ask is two or three years young! Shame on indian selectors.

Mohd. Kaif never scored a double ton. He scored 112 in Duleep Trophy,a useless knock which could not win the match for the Central Zone.

In the other Duleep Trophy match, some of the performers were:
Abhishek Nayar 259*
Rohit Sharma 122
Cheteshar Pujara 110

So Mr. Talisman, please alter ur records.

Why only Mohd. Kaif?

Besides Kaif, let the selectors also include in the Test team:
Irfan Pathan
Yusuf Pathan
Munaf Patel
Bilakhiya
Shoaib

may b that will make Talisman & his friends happy.

where is the under 21 team
by Ravi Shankar on Jan 29, 2010 11:10 AM

There used to be a under 21 team and under 25 team, which used to tour other countries. Where is that team. Only now you are in National side or out ,the under 21 or under 25 would have been great platform to test skills and also give more opportunity to others. IPL is not everything.

Virat Kohli?

How come Virat Kohli has not been given a chance? I thought he did quite well in the ODIs when given an opportunity.

The criteria for selection in test matches should be the number of centuries in ranji matches.

Is Virat kholi scoring ranji runs?

That's a flawed criteria. Is Sachin Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni or any of the top stars of Indian cricket playing Ranji? The point is Virat kohli played well in the opportunities that he was given. So just wondering why he did not get selected. Maybe he is considered an ODI instead of a Test player.

this bcci selection commitee is biased they always prefer northies or southies even when they are not good players. mumbai are the ranji champs but still not a single player from maharashtra is not selected.

Anybody in your mind who should have been selected and did not get selected. Pls don't say Jaffer or Agarkar. They have failed at the highest level already.

well. It is not enough that your ask is born in a certian region. It is the quality of centuries that u score in ranji or the number of wickets in matches.

You have given no evidence of either! So, you are not convincing anyone!

once upon a time the Indian cricket was fully dominated by Mumbaikars and its only turn of events. The wheel keep turning and your expectations might come true in near future. Keep coll till then.

... only time will tell if he succeeds.

He did well in the Ranji final against a Mumbai team with only 4 regular batsmen. It must be remembered that on that same pitch both Salvi and Agarkar got 5fers. That was not a lifeless pitch by any means.

Anyway it will be interesting to see if India go for a fair and sporting wicket for pace bowling against a SA which will have Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel leading the attack. On top of that India has Dravid missing and probably Laxman in doubt.

Oh yes... and Mumbai won the Ranji Final just as a reminder. They just had a team effort unlike a couple of brilliant performance from Karnataka players one of whom has justly been rewarded with a test spot.

Ofcourse it goes without saying that time will tell. But atleast he got a break now rather than at 28 and when he is in good form too.

The young and inexperienced Karnataka team nearly chased down 340 runs on the fourth innings. Congrats to the Winners who had all the lucky breaks from the Umpires

good selection of mithun.
by vinay on Jan 29, 2010 12:45 AM  | Hide replies

n it was right advice of legend vishwanath
I would advise him to bowl fast while maintaining line and length. He should not get into the mindset of bowling 130 or 135 km and settle for line and length as most fast bowlers do after they make it to the national team,"

But the fact is most settle at 130-135 or lower but still not have any consistency in line and length. If he can consistently bowl at 140 plus and have excellent control then it will be great. He has the potential.

I appreciate the selection of a young cricketer who has been doing very well (in form selection) we usually only talk but it is happening, for that I am thankful to the selectors like K. Srikanth and co., for making the right choice and I wish the younster many many happy years of cricket playing for india. I am confident he will be there long.
