Mithun Selection
by Bhasker Sundaresan on Jan 29, 2010 12:27 AM

I appreciate the selection of a young cricketer who has been doing very well (in form selection) we usually only talk but it is happening, for that I am thankful to the selectors like K. Srikanth and co., for making the right choice and I wish the younster many many happy years of cricket playing for india. I am confident he will be there long.

by sunil k on Jan 28, 2010 10:02 PM

This is just the begining....after a quite period of time there was no real talent emerged frm karnataka at national level in cricket...mithun is just the beginning...i'm sure with the way vinay kumar is bowling for quite a long time he could be called to team india any time...the best performer in domestic season this year...then we got manish pandey...he deffinitely deserves a place in indian 1 day team...exciting stroke player..still very young...deffinitely play for team india...such is his talent....and goutham a young wicket keeper batsman....who also performed consistantly well during this domestic season...still in his first domestic season , kept well behind the wicket and batted consitently throught the season...deffinite team india talent...

Cogratulations to Mithun
by Hifriend on Jan 28, 2010 09:57 PM

Congratulations to Mithun. Hope he makes the best use of the opportunity provided. He is young and fresh. What Mr Vishwanath said is so right. He is bowling at a good pace and should maintain and improve it further rather than cutting it down. We don't have an out and out fast bowler in our country. They are a very rare and talented breed and should be nurtured regardless of their runrate.

We should also be patient with these young guys. Look at Ishant, pathan and others. We can't expect to someone to bowl like McGrath just by asking them to cut their pace! He was getting more bounce than anyone on any pitch with accuracy!! Thats the stupidity of some coaches. Ishant would have been far effective if he had improved on his pace. Yes, he will get hit but on their day (read.. Brett Lee, Shoib, Waqar, Steyn, Bond to name a few) they can demolish any team.. Boys, this is test cricket!!
Cheers

Yuvraj Singh. The biggest 'LOOSER' in World Cricket.
by Santhanam on Jan 28, 2010 09:29 PM  | Hide replies

Its said that a person's achievements are built around his 'Attitude' more than his 'Talent'. How true it is specially when it comes to 'Mr Yuvraj Singh', the biggest 'Looser' in world cricket. To his credit or luck, wotever u may call, he entered Cricket at the prime age of 19 and after 10 yrs this Man can be termed as a Mediocre achiever. Agreed he is got 'Talent' but even Vinod Kambli had it but lost in one imp aspect to Tendulkar which is 'Attitude'. If you see at ppl like Tendulkar, Dravid etc they are more recognized for their 'Attitude' than their Talent. Coz Talent can open the first door for you, even the second and the third but it would certainly not open the last door without the right attitude. Inspite of the fact that Yuvraj has been around for 10 long years he is not able to cement a test spot coz of his 'Wrong' Attitude. Late Night Partying, Having Affairs with All and Sundry Models/Actresses, Being a Casanova, etc have lead to his downfalls. Yuvraj Singh is a prime lesson for any youngster of 'How not to loose focus in Career'. A Career span of 10 years and having Career Test runs of nearly 1500 runs is pathetic enough to judge his mediocrity. He is been always in the NEWS for all the wrong reasons like Affirs with Models, Actresses, etc but hardly had any cricketing achievement. Yuvraj better learn from ppl like Sachin & Dravid on how to stay focussed in your Career before its too late.

Even Michael Bevan of Australia was not having good Test records but it doesnt means he dont have class and temperament. He single handed won many matches for australia in ODI and same case with Yuvraj. Its better that he concentrate more in ODI and T20 because he is now backbone of Indian Team in both this format of the game.

Badrinath, Pujara, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma, etc. anybody with the right talent and attitude deserves a Test Cap since VVS, Dravid, etc would be retiring sooner than later. Its foolish to think that Yuvraj can be a test cricketer. The man doesnt have the temperament/technique/patience for Test cricket & most importantly this Casanova would never take efforts to nullify these gaps in techniques. I hope Selectors realize this soon and chuck him out of the Test team.

He lost his career. Not even dream of getting the form back in future. He is the worst example for the new comers to avoid him as a role model.

New Generation Cricketers should learn their lessons from this Casanova Yuvraj that 'Career is really important and goes a long way in defining a person's achievements. Sachin, Dravid, etc are prime examples of a wonderful Career journey thanx to their Focus. Yuvraj Singh Sucks (1500 test runs in 10 long years) and this Casanova's Career Failure is a Lesson not only for Indian Crickets but for cricketers world over. This person is only good enough for having sleazy cheap affairs with the hot models....

Yuvraj is more like the New generation. He hit 6 sixes in an over and pocketed the jackpot which others could not have thought of. He has not been up to the mark in Tests and has poor record in other first class matches also. The attitude is the culprit. He can still be winner in Tests at No.6 provided he shows commitment in future.

Nationalist down down... do u think yuvi is a great player in test cricket. i bet he cannot stay at the crease and play for 100 balls. 9 out of 10 times he will fail. first ask him to play all the domestic matches and prove himself mature, then he can claim his place like badri,pujara,pandey... Yuvi is simply blocking the way at the middle order. he does not deserve a test cap when compared to badri, mukund, pandey,pujara,kaif...etc. Mr.Nationalist, try to analyse the cricketing talent.don't make regionalism...
because of regionalism, we have already lost some fine players like sharath, amol mujumdar.. whose dream of wearing test cap remained as a dream!!

ha ha ha.... Only immature kids like u will use IPL as a template...! Check the statistics of Badri in Ranji matches. That shows the class and temperament of him... which is the essential things for Test cricket. We are talking abt Test cricket here, not IPL s.h.i.t..

Compare Badri, Pujara and Pandey, Badri is the one who stands first. Pandey is yet to prove his class and consistancy! One quick fire 100 is not enough!! He will make it to the test cricket for sure, but now is too early!

Yuvi shld be replaced with Badri, even when he is fit... he is good for one day cricket and 20-20 only!!

for some members of the national team (past and present) it is an insult to ask them to play in domestic matches. Hence either they are not asked to do so, or they show up late for practice and the rest dont even bother.

Good move by Srikanth
by Junior Don on Jan 28, 2010 06:59 PM

Let us see whether Karnataka gives us another great bowler, like kumble and srinath.

You don't have to bowl everytime with pace. Read the batsmen's mind and bowl accordingly. Its not only about pace. Upto the last moment you have to keep an eye on batsman and surprise him with pace.

But I fear, wether he will get appropriate chances (looking at the pea-minded people at the helm).

Yuvraj got the chance very lately and he didn't realise at any cost.he lost his batting ability.Badri is knocking the selection committee's doors for a long time with his performance. So don't compare play boy "yuvi" with man in form "badri".

Do you know how much it took for Badri to get into the team? To those who follow cricket only after IPL his inclusion may look surprising!

VIRAT KOHLI? SURPRISE? HE IS A KID FOR TEST CRICKET.HITTING TWO OR THREE GOOD INNINGS IS A BIG THING!!!!Badri has been playing consistency cricket for a long time.Let them wait for some time.Don't put anyone on the top for his three good innings like yuvi.

Yuvraj had talent, but there was no place in the middle order. There was one person (Greg) who wanted to include him in Test squad, especially when one person in the middle order was not batting well for a couple of years. But the media with regional & political bias succeeded in projecting him as dividing the team. That is a different story. Not many know the differences was created by the media with a clear regional bias.

Congratulations Abhimanyu Mithun, bowl as fast as possible, forget about line and length & don’t get into the mindset of bowling 130 or 135 km and settle for line and length as most fast bowlers of India do after they make it to the national team. Just go and blast the batsmen way..

I agree with you. No point in cutting down the pace just to be in the periphery of Indian team like pathans, munafs, praveens etc.. Its a big, bad world ... be fast and furious.. Its test cricket.!!
