The banglas were ordinary but India needs to look into the future
by Nikhil Shah on Jan 19, 2010 03:14 AM

It seems like Karthik effectively cannot overcome Dhoni's back spasm and a better batting WK could be Parthiv Patel.

Dhoni's replacement based on performance in FC:

Parthiv Patel 159 innings @40.85

It may be time for the selectors to also look at how much longer Laxman can carry on. There are some possible middle order heavyweights in the domestic scene with great fielding skills as well. So for Yuvraj and Laxman the several possiblities from the FC scene are:

Rahane 58 innings @65.44
Pujara 72 innings @56.00
Murali 54 innings @55.01
Sharma 50 innings @53.52
Tiwary 58 innings @52.76

The cut-off point has to be a minimum average of 55 and a mininum playing experience of about 50 innings, that way if a player is lucky, initially, it will cancel out in the long term. So the longer he has played the more accurate the average.

A batsmen's average tells you at what level he is playing the game. It gives a chance for the selectors to assess if he needs to be persisted if he fails and was a bit unlucky initially.

With a combination of age, sample size and fielding skills, Rahane is the top contender for Yuvraj and Laxman, the next contender is Pujara.

Selecting a player on looks tends to biased and political. The co-relationship between middle order bats and spinners are pretty good. Technique may play an important role in openers sometimes but Shewag can overcome that with temperament and talent. For fast bowler, height and body size are important.

Don't worry. Already two days gone. out of remaning days, equivalant one day will be taken out by the bad light condition and Bangaladesh will bat for a day. And in the remaining oneday they can not take 10 Indian wickets. Hence, what Mr.Shewag told was okay.

;-).... Good to see that Sehwag is a better weather forecaster than he is a good cricketing brain. :)

And really good that some of us appreciate this hitherto hidden side of his character... :)

SK:

The question was NOT about India's ability to bundle out Bangladesh. The point Sehwag was trying to make (with little evidence on display during the first two days of the test) was that Bangladesh cannot take Indian wickets as they don't have capable bowlers. :)

But you are still free to believe whatever you MUST believe... :)

wining ?? seems difficult
by kedar shukla on Jan 18, 2010 10:31 AM

Our players always tend to take d opposition casully and all of us have seen what happened on the first day of the test match.

Its a very poor team and we hence we could not even score more than 250. all giants got out easily to the reasonably good bowling of B'deshis.

Our WALL, Mr. Dravid, was bowled to a fantastic delivery which he could not understand at allll....

lets c.. n b optimistic about the match. lets hope that the match is not abondant coz of foggy wheather or we win coz of such factors..

Kedar Shukla,
Thane

Arrogant, pompous twits- these loudmouths still end up losing to such 'ordinary' sides.

I have heard Experts saying on neo-sports and various channel that we need experience guy so we took Nehra in place of sudeep Tyagi in final, then in test matches against Bangladesh we have experienced side, All experts says there is no place in Indian team for batsman who score run in ranjit matches… the fact is BCCI or selector can’t take bold decision to put any experience player out of team. We say Sehwag is the best batsman who can hit 300 runs on his day. In test matches he is fine, but we need player who can delivers on consistent basis, we can get thousands of Sehwag but difficult to get player like Dravid, who are technically sound, takes responsibility and can understand game much better. I am really sad that we are not taking Manish Pandey, Virat Kohli, Murli Vijay, Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Pujara in Test matches who are at their prime form now…
For test matches against Bangladesh I would have taken 16 men squad as below.
[1]Murli Vijay [2] Gambhir [3]Virat Kohli [4]Manish Pandey [5]Rohit Sharma [6]Suresh Raina [7]Parthiv Patel [8]Harbhajan [9]Sudeep Tyagi [10] Abhimanyu Mithun [11]Ishant Sharma [12]Amit Mishra [13]Irfan Pathan [14] Rahane [15]Ajit Agarkar.
Why this team would have been selected reasons are as below.

[1] Murli Vijay is good Opener he should get opportunity as per his current form In test against Srilanka he scored good runs .
[2] Gambir will be in team as he is young and he can be captain of team.
[3] Virat kohli is technically

[4] Manish Pandey due to his current show in Ranjit Trophy were he batted at number & produce good score.
[5] Rahane did good with bat for Mumbai in Ranjit Trophy so he must get opportunity..
[6] Parthiv Patel already has international experience and his current form is very good having average nearly of 100 in Ranjit Trophy in this season, far better option than Dinesh Kartik now.
[7] Suresh Raina is selected my team due to his ability, who already performed in pressure situation against Srilanka in final, he do have ability to produce good in pressure situation in past also he had done this.
[8] Rohit Sharma scored 300 runs plus in one inning for Mumbai, he do have real talent he is young and future of Indian cricket.
[9] Sudeep Tyagi is good bowler he should be in team due to his bowling show.
[10] A. Mithun did good for Karnataka in Ranjit trophy this season.
[11] Isahant is test bowler do have good pace so he should be in team.
[12] Irfan pathan is left-arm bowler, he is also a good batsman and we are lacking good all-rounder, in recent Ranjit trophy series he did decent performance taking 22-23 wicket in 5 match, if we compare other top bowler they took 35-38 wicket in 8 matches but they are purely bowler only, they don’t know how to bat. Irfan should be in Indian team for test matches.
[13]Harbhajan is in team as we don’t have any off-spiner who can replace him, and secondly we can have one exp guy in bowling department, test matches is all about taking 20 wic

13]Harbhajan is in team as we don’t have any off-spiner who can replace him, and secondly we can have one exp guy in bowling department, test matches is all about taking 20 wicket of opposition.
[14] Amit Mishra is good leg-break googly bowler so he should be giving opportunity; he is a test bowler who is talented.
[15] Ajit Agarkar also did well in this Ranjit trophy season, he can also bat better compare to other bowlers and can be fit in team as all-rounder, frankly saying he has not done justice to his own talent as all-rounder. If we can have Nehra after such a long break then why not we can’t have Agarkar back in team?
Zahir, Nehra are not good fielder secondly Nehra is unfit Zahir can play against strong team like Africa and Australia against Bangladesh we can have other new guys who can show their talent and get some confidence for big shows.
Most of people will not agree with me on my view of Sehwag & Yuvraj, They are such a talent that on their day they can do miracle but they do such thing after every 20 matches, it’s easy to get Sehwag out we can’t rely on Sehwag. In test matches if we have squares third-man, sweeper cover, three good fielder in sleep with gully and deep square leg, wide mid-off, short cover then we can get sehwag out easily without giving much run. Its all about proper fielding placement & bowling right line to sehwag.
Yuvraj need to do some work-out, he is not fit seems to be getting more weight. He needs to improve his batting on ball wh

Yuvraj need to do some work-out, he is not fit seems to be getting more weight. He needs to improve his batting on ball which leave him out-side off stump.
For Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni and Lakshman we don’t need to say anything about them they are already proven but if we can’t give opportunity to young guns against team like Bangladesh then where we are going to give them chance when all this player are going to retier?
Slowly and gradually we are replacing team which have lots of selection from Greg- chapel, I will only say chapel was not good people manager but his knowledge about game is much better and he is good in getting right new talented guys. Indian selector are biased towards their own state or for guys those who play for their own region. I have seen many in discussion in neo-sports itself they support guys from Mumbai, but when asked question about Irfan Pathan they say not did good as per his talent.
Unless and until we can’t have good rotation policy for player we won’t be at number one for long decade. For BCCI I will say they have IPL they can earn and hardly think of making good Indian team who can win ICC champions trophy or world cup. India only won first T20 world apart from that we never won any major tournament why? Though BCCI is very good in making money, why they are not able to get right guys in team and proper combination…? The main reason for this is the guys those who are in selection are not secular they think of

It seems Sehwag goes on Australian way of demoralising the opposition by which put on mental pressure and defeat the opponent.

My friendly Neighbour:

If an Aussie had uttered the "demoralising" comments, wouldn't we all have been up in arms on the forum shouting "that proves that Aussies are racist"?... :)

Anyway, you are free to criticize ME now instead of an Aussie... since Sehwag's behaviour will, in future, seal that route to hit out at our favourite target boards... :)

Thank you friends. But I did not mean Mr. Shewag is a racist. I mean, he, by terming Bangladesh as an ordinary Test side, which cannot surprise the visiting team, trying to weaken the confidence of Bangla Team.
