Mind it, it is PLAYER OF THE DECADE not THE BATSMAN OF THE DECADE.
So, it is stupid to infer that Ponting is Batsmen of the Decade.
Having been part of the best team of decade that resulted in wining word cups and matches had helped Ponting getting this award.
Like any jury, this jury had some prejudice--like giving more weightage to winning word cup, that is how Gilly is ahead of Champion bowlers like Murali, Macgrath, Warne.
Moreover, as usual-- Indian are known for being jealous of their own heroes--Sachin could not get vote from people like Manjrekar, and of course from Paki. I never expected Ian chapel favoring Sachin.
If you think logically, decision from only 38 people cannot be the ultimate truth.
Like any award this award does not tell the whole truth.
Do you know MAHATMA GANDHI was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize? WHY?

Difficult to take you seriously as all your post suggests that you are a Sachin obsessed fan nothing less and nothing more.
Sachin is a great batsman but clearly he doesn't match Ponting in the last decade. As a matter of fact Dravid would give a serious competition for the best Indian batsman in test matches in the last decade.
Mahatma Gandhi was never awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, but that doesn't make the value of Nobel Prize any less, it is still the ultimate achievement for which several intellectuals work hard for their entire life to achieve!

Its amusing how come Cricinfo panel which comprises some great cricketer couldn't see your rationale :-)

Legionnaire,
Have you really read my post carefully and understood it? My message was that Ponting got more votes not because he is better batsmen than Sachin, but because of other factors that I have listed in message.

There are several people like Mahatma Gandhi who never got the Nobel Prize. In Gandhi's case, I am sure that the British royalty and their Prime Minister Mr. Winston Churchill who was also a Nobel Laureate had a lot to do with Gandhi not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize even though he was nominated 4 times. Firstly, it needs to be remembered that the British Kings George V and his son George VI were related to the Swedish royalty. One of Queen Victoria's daughters married a Swedish Prince. They must have exerted tremendous pressure and influence on the Nobel committee. Mr. Churchill was very furious when India got its Independence and he must have also influenced the panel. Of course, the Nobel committee will flatly deny the truth. Criminals always state that they are innocent.

Ofcourse, its a blemish on Nobel Prize in its otherwise distinguished history that it was never conferred upon Mahatma Gandhi. Even Nobel Prize Committe recognise this fact.

you are talking as if it is never merit or statistics but always lobbying which finds the deserved? Get out of sachin worship and pls bring him to the ground reality.
The award is for best cricketer of the decade. If u see the figures of the nominees, ponting and kallis are indeed front runners with runs and averages. And Sachin was 7th or 8th in the list. The award was given rightly.
But if u take the figures for last 15 years, sachin trumps with both runs and averages. And if the filter is for 20 yrs, Sachin will be the only nominee..
After all he is the all time second best test batsman and second best ODI batsman by Wisden after Bradman and Viv richards respectively.

we should also consider onfield behavior and how Ponting has played his cricket against their best opposition India. Sachin has played against the best bowling attack McGrath and Shane Warne...so averages, runs etc dont really show the true picture.

Oh! and Ponting did not face Muralidharan or Wasim Akram or Waqar Younis??? Its a very strange kiind of argument because noobody batted for Ponting. He comes out most probably in the most difficult spot, thats no.3. If it wasn't for his runs then what would Australia defend in a match? Ponting also played against best bowling attacks and he played 20 test matches less than Tendulkar. Stats might be disputed but facts are facts.

the aussies are the best, whether its bowling, batting or fielding... sachin scored centurie because he wanted all the strike he could and took singles of the last ball consistently.... he is a disgrace, india will never win a world cup with sachin in the team. even t20 wc was possible because sachin was not there in the team.
Re: Relax Guys
by x on Jan 15, 2010 06:31 AM
thats why all time best is considered.... sachin is not even in the top 25 in the list of best test batsmen.... sachin is just selfish about his records and his centuries will not tell about his greatness...
NO. People who say yes, are just stupid or blinded by hate towards Sachin.
In 2003 word cu final, did Mcgrath not take the wicket of Sachin or that matter did the Aussi bowler not make it impossible for Indian batsman to score 350 runs?
Look on the other hand, what did our bowlers do? Zaheer, Sreenath, Nehra all fed lolly pops not only to Ponting but to Hayden, Gilly, which allowed them to make a score of around 350 runs.
So, Stop this rubbish talk, do not display your poor upbringings openly here.

Sachin is a piss drinker, whereas Ponting is a beef eater.. its well known which is a myth and which actually gives strength.

good,, i guess these languages are taught by your mother or it is the new culture of a 'patriot of this country'.......laughing out loud!!!
As usual, Rediff has deliberately used an INCORRECT TITLE of the article.

Certainly he may be batsmen of decade but by no means he is better than out Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. Our Little Master is way ahead of Ponting not only in runs and centuries but also behavior. Also Ricky Ponting is a cheater and our Tendulkar is a honest person also. I SAY SACHIN TENDULKAR IS THE BEST BATSMEN OF ALL THE DECADES, EVEN GREATER THAN DON BRADMAN HIMSELF.
Re: who cares about Ponting???
by stallone muthu on Jan 15, 2010 06:46 AM
Sachin is in the cricket world 20years. You said he is greater than Don Bradman then why he could not win a world cup so far. Don't count his centruary and he is m aking money for each centuary.Bradman made 29 test cenytuary form 52 test but Sachin made 29 centuary while playing 100 test. Where you are comparing A....e
The award is for the batsman of the decade, which purely means who was the best batsman in the decade purely in terms of scoring runs and its effect on opposition. Considering this there is no denying that Ponting is the batsman of the decade much ahead of Sachin Tendulkar. When it comes to Sachin one can he is the most 'respected player' because of not only scoring runs but also counting his excellent on-field behavior all through his career.
