by Purani Jeans on Dec 21, 2010 03:15 PM  | Hide replies

if cricket is really a game worh playing and requires physical fitness...then NDA, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, IMA all would have introduced this game...

they play football, hockey, tennis, cross country, basketball, sailing etc .....BUT NO CRICKET....

So you mean to say these people opt for short games taking less time. So let us hope to see T20 cricket soon among the ranks.

no i mean to say..they go for challenging game which require physical fitness and improves physical fitnes...not the game in which captain of WC winning team has his tummy out (Ranatunga)

i bet cricket will never be introduced to military academies...

You mean Leander Paes plays tennis, Saina plays badminton for physical fitness and Vishwanathan Anand, Koneru Humpy plays chess for mental fitness. That was their aim when they chose the sport. Good thinking.

Then why are you making an issue of it. Did any cricketer mention that they play cricket for physical fitness or the spectators say that they watch cricket for mental fitness, etc etc. It is just a means of entertainment and personal liking.

Cricket World Cup or 8 nation tournament
by sami malik on Dec 21, 2010 03:05 PM  | Hide replies

Can we call the cricket world cup as 8 nation tournament....
Why cricket is not reaching beyond these 8 genuine cricket nations...
Whole African continent is representated by South Africa.
Asia by India,Pak,Bang,SRL
Europe by England

very funny Puraini Jeans. I said 'Hard things are done by few people, easier things are done by all of us'. So Gazhal singers are lesser than rock starts. Talent and hard things are never judged in terms of crowd pull as you can see in case of your own example.

My take
by makdi man on Dec 21, 2010 03:00 PM  | Hide replies

I feel our batsman played better than the scorecard reflects, through out the match (even in the 1st innings!). Over the years I have seen our former batsman poking at seaming deliveries and following them instead of just leaving them alone. This time they left such deliveries with intent and it was the sheer class of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel who exploited the conditions extremely well with little bit of luck favoring them (Crutial toss win, Sehwag finding the only fielder Amla and Harbhajan bat stuck in the ground and brilliance of Mark Boucher).
Our bowling was totally exposed once again and that is going to trouble us the whole series.

India will surely win all the remaining matches as South Africa has humiliated our cricketers not only by good play but also by harsh words.

by warrsan on Dec 21, 2010 02:45 PM

dhoni may have contributed to the team by his batting. No one disputes that ..but when it comes to captaincy he is only a in matured guy with no ideas to get the opponent out!! The luck is now going to turn against him in 2011. wait and watch

no one in the world knows what so calledgame cricekt is. since the standard of competition is low, bcci team members have been able to create so callesrecords. cricekt is not popular in SA, even then also , wait and see how they will thrashand junk this bbci team.
Test were won because they were played on flat indian pitches. the rare ones won abroad were fixed by bcci. anyways, this so called game is played by 3 -4 countrie only.

bowling is weak link?
by Sunil Vaidya on Dec 21, 2010 02:01 PM  | Hide replies

many people on this forum have said that it is our bowling which is the weak link. it is not our bowlers who is the WEAK link. in fact because our bowlers are our STRONGEST link that we are no. 1.

time and again i have emphasized this.

test cricket is the only format where we have to take all the opposition wickets to win. only bowlers take wickets. and if under dhoni we have won 13 tests out of 22 then it is because of our bowlers. batsmen score runs. they do not take wickets. surprising how previous indian captains with 'better bowling attacks than this' were never able to win 13 tests out of 22.

for readers of this forum i would like to point out that out of 52 tests that dhoni has played india have won 22 lost 9 and drawn 21.
under dhoni india has played 22 tests and india has won 13 lost 3 and drawn 6.

dhoni has played 30 tests as a player under different captains (dravid 19, kumble 10 and sehwag 1). Out of these 30 tests india won 9 lost 6 and drawn 15. out of these 9 wins in 30 tests kumble (india's best and most successful bowler and highest wicket taker for india and the only bowler in the past decade that readers on this fourm seem to have any respect for) has played many tests.

another fact to be appreciated is also that out of 13 wins in 22 tests under dhoni, kumble did not play a SINGLE test.

I would also like to point out to those who consider that dhoni is a useless batsman and does not contribute to india win that dhoni averages 40 plus overall. While as a captain he averages 50 plus as a batsman. Also as a player he contributes with a batting average of almost 50 in india’s winning causes. While that same batting average goes to 58 as a batsman when dhoni is a captain. And all this when he comes mostly at no. 7.

Out of the 13 test won by Dhoni , 12 were won on subcontinent pitches & 1 in NZ (on a flat track). On subcontinent pitches,Azhar also had gr8 winning % as captain,so by ur yardstick Azhar is better captain than Sourav. If this match also ,if played in India the result wud have been a draw and ur captain cool record wud have been intact.Does it mean he is gr8 captain & this team worldbeaters ,noway. As far as Dhoni's batting is concerned ,show me one substantial innings he has played away from subcontinent(I can remember only one at Lord's in 2007).And mind u ,guys batting at N0.7 will have better averages because they have most chances of being Not out,not that they are gr8 bats.PLease understand Dhoni is good for ODIs & T20s and not tests.

Change Strategy
by franklin b on Dec 21, 2010 01:50 PM  | Hide replies

India should go with specialised 5 bowlers

3 seamers and 2 spinners. Bhaji is almost an all rounder.

If 6 world class batsman cannot perform why have 7???????

Same thinking about the bowlers. It is not the quantity, but quality that matters. So if 4 of our main bowlers cannot get wickets, the fifth also will not be. If Sreesanth and Ishant cannot, then Unadkat and Umesh Yadav also will not be able to.
