Whom to blame?
by ASHOK IYER on Dec 21, 2010 06:52 AM  | Hide replies

Now, as India has lost the Ist test match, whom should we blame. Except for the first two session, the wicket was a placid one. Their batsmen applied themselves and got runs. Yet India could have salvaged a draw by scoring big in their last innings. Actually we gifted wickets. Shewag, Laxman, Raina, Harbhajan. Dhoni and dravid got two very good balls. In test match, the basic idea is to stick in the crease and then make runs. India lost a golden chance to regain their confidence in the second innings. Now, I think the series will be a complete white wash for SA.

Raina is not fit to play test cricket in such conditions. He should have left the ball.

It seems our Indian cricketers forgot that there is one thing like DRAW in test matches. Unfortunately, when the wicket was not cooperating, the batsmen went for shots and got out very cheaply in the first innings. Our batting is supposed to be the best but what we lack is the psycology to face odd situations. Now we require a psycologist to tackle odd situations.

Bowling

What Dhoni is not expressing is that Indian bowlers, barring Zaheer, lack bowling intelligence and cricketing nuances! Sreesanth, emotionally charged, lacks bowling discipline. Harbhajan is flat and mechanical, Ishant bowls short. Unadkat had no swing or pace.
India's ponderous fielding leaks runs copiously.Given the lack of bowling penetration and sieve like fielding allowing balls to easily go the boundary, what can India expect?
For Durban apart from Zaheer,Ojha has to come in to pressure the South Africans to be relatively quiet.Raina has no technique against pace and has to go back to the drawing board. M.Vijay or Pujara has to come in. Harbhajan should not remain smug and stubborn about his uninspiring bowling just because he has contributed with the bat lately. He has to use intelligence as a bowler. Ashwin seems to be more effective these days as he experiments with flight, speed, trajectory and variety. Satiated with his lot,Harbhajan has stopped growing as a bowler unlike Swann who is eager to learn more and more.

there two reasons for India Losing.

1st the toss is crucial factor. After rain India were asked to bat and the sky was generally helping them. And in the 2nd and 3rd day the pitch was relatively playing well. If Africa would have batted the situation would have been bit different.

Secondly the tem selection is very poor. Shrikanth is under presure still the zonal selection is under process.

Raina, Yuvaraj and Gambhir are good one day bat and they can play good innings in Indian grounds.

In foreign pitches the things would differ, they have real weakness in ball pitching on off stump and outside. I cn get them out in 12 balls outside india in the areas I suggest.

Gavasker and Sashtri know all these, i do not know why u people choose indifferently. U have to have patient people to handle tests.

I still write that poojara, badrinath and Dinesh Karthik would be of a good choice and expecially Karthi has proved many times outside India. You need technique to leave good balls gthat is test cricket.

Taking Saha into team is a selection zonal riggidness. Karthick and Patel are more good as a keeper and batsman. At the present set up Murali or Pujara should come in play 3rd not dravid. if you dont do this u r out of test cricket. In India everyone would score u have tailor made pitches and if you take anyody on local statistics u r outg of crickedt.

Indians listen up

We are a race which gives up easily.
In the Sa vs India match
India had 3 clear objectives:
One-Avoid innings defeat, meaning knock off the 30 runs deficit.
Two-Make SA field as long as possible
Three-In a million to one chance draw the match, as the record shows it rained after 3.13pm at the Centurion.

Now Did SRT try knocking off those 30 runs? No
Did SRT shield the tailenders so India could prolong its innings? No

Eff UU India !! Yes I am a Indian, and I love India, and I am saying efff uu India !!

Sudhir Dhar:

You seem lost.... your message started with "India had 3 clear objectives.." and ends up with SRT without mentioning anything about India...

BTW, you forgot to mention that not only SRT but even Gambhir, Sehwag, Laxman, Dravid and Dhoni did not shield the tailenders.... :)

Psuedos

The Unsaid Crime commited by tendulkar was not to have scored 401 this test.

Had he gotten out right after 100 , just as lot of batsmen do due to concentration issues , it would have been tendy got his 100 and promptly got out.

Since he didn't, people are nitpicking reasons.

Funny thing is People expect this only from tendy. Had it been some other batsman , it would have been ok

Hell Laxman got praises for showing confidence in Ishant for letting him face 70 deliveries.
Has Ishant perished , it would have been good try , better luck next time

Funny how all these So called Sachin critics have incredibly high expectations ;)

Has Sachin forgotten???
by The Indian on Dec 21, 2010 05:08 AM

that he can come forward, swing the bat, score quick 15 runs in a over, have few overs like and go down swinging.. as oppose to surrender on 5th day...

pathetic... i am big fan of sachin but 5th day strategy was disaster, he even had 50 100s behind him, what else he needs???

sameer, we dont ask him to do any such impossible or unreasonable thing.

if you want to make him walk on water or fly in sky etc... that is your prerogative.

we are only asking that in return for the crores that we pay him, he should at least ONCE in a while play well in crisis and take india to victory or even save the match like how the other 10 players in his team have been doing so many times.

This is Why Sachin is more than Team India
by super hero on Dec 21, 2010 02:57 AM  | Hide replies

Ask a random passer by, what would you ideally want from Team India?
A non fanatic might say World cup .
A fanatic might say No1 Test status and world cup.
A girl newbie fanatic might say T20 world cup.

And if you ask them why?
Answer: It will make Indians proud. A non-fanatic might not even know
for how many years we have a world cup.All they know is its a big cup
and it will make us proud.

Why are these important anyways? We gave a world cup champion for
every 4 years. T20 chapmions for every 2 years. Constant doubts over
our No1 status and might not hold onto it for more than 2 years.

20 years down the lane, whats so great about winning 2 world cups
(1983,2011) out of 10 world cups so far and almost most of the countries
will have the similar record.Whats so great about winning 2011 world cup?
Indian are champions from 2011-2015. And that too if we loose 5-2 to Aus or
SA, we cant even call them champions for 4 years.

Notable achievements that come to my mind till now
1983 world cup, Titan cup,Hero cup, 96 SF,Sharjah cup,
Natwest trophy, 2003 Finals,T20 World cup,CB Series,No1 Test status.
Except for No1 status, most countries have similar achievements.
But then we have 'SACHIN'.The best bastman ever(Only Bradman can contest).
Most of his records will stay alive forever(If you are cricket fanatic,
then u will know that most of them are impossible to break).A poll in
australia twice this decade said Sachin is the current best player.Ponting
was no-where near in those polls. Current and ex-crickets, commenattors,
coaches, umpires and everyone alround the world praise him as the best.
That makes me an Indian proud. He is like Dhanychand of Cricket.
He is like a Schumacher ,a Pele, a federer, a Tiger woods.
50 years from now, Indian cricket might become like our Hockey.
Usa, Canada,Ireland,Afghanisthan might be top 4 teams.Your Grand children
might not follow cricket, but they sure will be surprised and happy to hear
that the best player, holder or most runs, centuries is an INDIAN.
He is a phenomenon that happend once in a life time.
I cherish a century from Sachin more than an Indian victory.
This is the reason why.

And people like you (whom we have billions of in India) are the reason why India will only produce players who can make personal landmarks and cant contribute to any team achievements by raising above individual records and do something for the team.

Here again is the reason why VVS is no star in India and Sachin and Gavaskar and such are big stars.

But Of course this is not to take away from the Genius that Sachin is, he is indeed great and deserves to be the pride of India. For me the last 2-3 years of Sachin have been his greatest as he has tried to rise up and perform beyond individual records although he hasnt always been able to secure victories, but I do give him credit for taking responsibility and raising his game up to the occasion.

But we as cricket watcher need to change our outlook and expectations and our players need to rise up , because if this is where our expectation is then we cant blame anyone if our players are also of the same kind of mind set.

How will we compete with China in the 21st century with such type of 'all that matters is me' attitude instead of 'all that matters is India'?

We surely can learn a trick or 2 from Pak in this aspect!!

Just my 2 cents on this!!

THE REST CAN BAT AND SCORE THEIR HUNDREDS ETC BUT CANT MAKE INDIA WIN!!

WHEN VVS BATS HE CAN INSPIRE TAIL ENDERS ALSO TO BAT 100 BALLS AND SCORE 30-50 RUNS, NONE OF THE OTHERS HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO THAT?

ONCE VVS RETIRES INDIA WILL DROP 5-6 POINTS IN THE TEST RANKINGS IN NO TIME

Sorry... you just disproved your point.... FYI, 1) VVS was playing in this match. 2) He didn't inspire himself, forget the tailenders. 3) India lost the match. So even VVS can't make India win - so much for your theory stating otherwise...
