there was a write up about Shane Warme being recalled. Perhaps Steve Waugh could recalled too for a few matches. He can help in rebuilding the team despite his age.
Its important to have a competitive Australian side now and in the future in the interest of Cricket.

It is foolhardy to look back at the past, it only shows that they are desperate and short of talent. Instead they should look to the future and focus on giving the current bunch as much chances as possible.

world cup
by sunny joseph on Dec 12, 2010 04:12 PM

Many readers consider it is Sachin's duty to win world cup. Please understand it is a game played by 11 players. When rest of the 10 plyers play well it might be possible. Don't crucify Sachin for not winning world cup

Viv Richards - the best. Full stop
by shambuswamy on Dec 12, 2010 03:25 PM  | Hide replies

Viv Richards was the most destructive batsman the world has ever seen, and he is so modest about it. He had no weakbess, never batted with a helmet, could smash any bowler at will.

Can any of today so called super heroes, Tendulakar included bat witout a helmet???

Mind you ther are no Imran Khans,Dennis Lillees and Jeff Thomsons now. Today's batsman wear full armoured protection to even bowlers like Praveen Kumar and Venkatesh Prasad. sic!!!

That's why Gavaskar is the most respected batsman by all the leading high speed merchants of the past.

One sensible poster. Hats off to your comments. I agree with both that Smokin' Joe Viv was the best and there will never be one like him again. Secondly, you are also on target when you say Sunny was the best ever Indian batsman technically. The most destructive Indian batsman ever is Sehwag.
Sehwag Sunny = Viv

Also all the readers shuld understand. The pitches were lot bouncy and fast than how it is now.
Just take Sachins test record in SA. Also take his record in AUS without Sydney..It is very ordinary. He can never be compared with Bradman or VvRich.

He was very good in Indian pitches or flat pitches and never a match winner.

Absolutely right Srini Krish.
Some posters here on rediff are like frogs in the well. Comments from past legends like Richards only confuses these kids more. The reason why we hear more praises for Sachin these days is because all these legends travel to India more now and media asks questions like "Is Sachin the greatest?" Quite obviously to please Indians through Indian media they have to say yes.
If South African media asks them "Is Kallis the best cricketer of our time?" I am sure Richards would say yes. He is the best cricketer since Garfield Sobers.

Kallis is a better Test match player, perhaps technically in the mould of Rahul Dravid.

moron he has faced wasim akram, allan donald, shoaib akhtar, mc grath, shane bond , Lee, shane warne, muralitharan, waqar at their peaks..all of them are greats..Dont under estimate sachin.
After sharjah defeat steve had been saying if sachin plays it is tough for them to win.
Best thing about sachin is that he keeps improving. Which i dont see in other greats like ganguly and dravid..ganguly never tried hard enough to overcome his weakness against short pitch deliveries. dravid was dead slow in one dayers.

Yeah, u are right.

Sir Issac Vivian Alexander Richards was the most devastating and destructive batsman in the history of the game. Never wore a helmet and played ag some of the greatest fast bowlers of all times like Thommo, Lillee, Imran, Sarfraz, Willis, Pascoe, Rodney Hogg, Mike Procter, John Snow, Richard Hadlee, Ian Botham, Kapil Dev, etc and ag his own mates like Andy Roberts, Mike Holding, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner, Colin Croft, Wayne Daniel, Sylvester Clarke, etc in local Windies matches and English County cricket. He played them all without helmet and slaughtered them like no one did. All these great fast men hailed King Viv as the greatest batsman they had bowled to.

All current greats from Sachin to Lara, Viru, Warnie, Ponting, Pieterson, Dravid, Laxman, etc hail him as their hero.

He was a colorful character, well built, macho and supremely confident always. His walk to the wicket was a classic delight, furious chewing of chewing gum,
that taking guard from umpire and then the piercing look at the bowler to show who was the boss. The best hooker and puller of quick bowlers, his duels with the fast men in Packer rebel series in late 1970s was something else, he mauled all the quicks (there were so many then.)

Absolutely marvellous, he never cared for records, if he had done, he would scored stacks of runs (in fact he scored stacks of them during Packer rebel series).

There will be never another Smoking Joe, King Viv, he is the only one of his kind.

bunch of illogical morons..
do u guys realize...how funny u all sound...lemme make u understand, how everyone else other than sachin haters are seing this post...

Someone above wrote "Can any of today so called super heroes, Tendulakar included bat witout a helmet???"..hhahhahhaa
so imagine..helmets are still not introduced..what would have happened then?
ur saying none of the current greats cannot bat without helmets...so may be they wont play cricket at all...or may be they will all get struck on head...so eventually cricket would have died...for lack of batsman...
how sad....wow god sent the helmts to save cricket...
sooper logic...awesomw guys keep it up..
wats next for tomorrow???
hahhaha

How the critics were waiting with bated breaths and their tails wagging for Ponting to break Tendulkar's record of most Test centuries at one point. LOL, poor souls. Their beloved adopted hero couldn't fulfill their wishes.

Why do u guess so? Just because he has commented favorably on Sachin, u are making farcical guesses.

He just gave his answer when he was questioned on Sachin. Sachin after all rates King Viv as his hero.

Records are there for Breakage?

When Dennis Lillee took 355 Wickets, he told any player who take 355 Wickets will be Blood Tired.
But Now?
Tendulkar's Record will not be broken in the near future, but one day, it will be broken?

Re: Records are there for Breakage?

That was different, Lillee was only 355, But Sachin is something 14000 runs odd, which is way difficult for any future batsman to get pass.

Look at the amt of cricket today, T20s is eating away into ODIs and also snapping at Tests, players of today play too much cricket, so their career span will be less.
