IS Bindra's exemplary article !!!!
by kalyanaraman s. on Apr 29, 2010 10:50 PM

the article is high on hype and low on substance! sort of an article that is best suited for an intellectual congregation that is not so much keen on truth, but would look for poetic expressions !!

notwithstanding all that he has written, he has conveniently glossed over a few questions:

1. is Modi's disclosure of a franchisee's shareholding a breach of confidentiality or not ? what does Mr. Bindra suggest, if that is a violation ?

2. How does Mr. Bindra explain the TV/Internet deal (even stripping the media reports of the irrelevant points !!) ?

3. does Mr. Modi own shares in any of the franchises ? this is something he can answer himself, without waiting for so-called legal process to be completed.

and so on.......and so forth.........

besides these, what has been Mr. Bindra's attempt to establish transparency in BCCI, given his long stint with them ?

the fact remains that Modi thought he could lord over everyone else, including new franchises, politicians and his bosses, without realising that others could play the same game much better !!

cheers

It is Lalit only has caused all these issues and not Media
by Manoj Pandya on Apr 29, 2010 10:15 PM

Bindarji I have high respect for you and I always follow your moves. I agree with your views on Lalit and his efforts and success in IPL branding however you can not put blame on media for current mess. I do not think media by themselve has done anything to spoil Lalit’s image. If you track the events the blame should go to Lalit himself and the way he started twitting Shashi Th’ore and Kochi issues. He being chairman of IPL he can not take media medium to sort out these issues , he should have worked with BCCI bosses to meet his goal. It is very clear Lalit did not want Kochi for whatever reasons and he took media route for that. Rest is history, Govt. is not going to sit back quietly when one of their blue eyed boy/ Minster who is near and dear to Gandhi’s had to resin on this. All the findings as reported by media now are from various Govt. Agencies and for sure BCCI is in big trouble which left no options for them to remove him, I think it is Pranab and PC’s move by jamming Pawarji . There are FERA , Company Act and IT volitions & everybody is going to be in trouble but seeing the big names I am pretty sure this chapter will be history . It is very clear from getgo the kind of investment required for this business is not going to be straight forward. You being so close to Pawarji & in this business I am sure Congress can or has traced him somewhere. if you look retrospectively the chai

No uprights please.

Pl remember my reply to one of the points about 30 days back. Some body was praising Lalit modi as one of the most innovative Manager. When I said that Hardhad Mehta was also most innovative finance manager until he was involved in all the said scams. The most unfortunate part of our edition of democracy is that no upfront person can stand sraight for long.

India is even worse than some of the poorest/corrupt countries..
by noel on Apr 29, 2010 09:51 PM

worse than somalia/sudan and other such countries, it's not possible in even those countries to cancel a passenger flight and making it a charter flight to please the minister's daughter, sharad pawar/prafull patel and others have their family members employed by IPL and no one wonders why...PM/HM are no more than peons to her highness, who enjoys full power without responsibility, this sad and pathetic state is due to the total surrender of Indians and complete lack of self respect, caused by 1000 years of slavery.

Modi and Objectivity
by Pranav B on Apr 29, 2010 09:51 PM  | Hide replies

Whenever it comes to Modi, Objectivity will be gone. :). In my opinion, the Indira Cogress Government is trying to tell BCCI and Modi who the boss is. Without Tharoor's incident, none of this would have happened.

Pranav is right!! Modi tried to destabilize the govt by Tharoor contraversy...he is paying the price only for that...otherwise one person can't be responsible for all this.....

Well Explained
by Sanjay Roy on Apr 29, 2010 09:51 PM

It was nice to read what Mr. Bindra had to say. I do not know what type of politics are played out behind closed doors...but something is certainly fishy with the way things have gone over the past few weeks moreso after Mr. Tharoor resigned. It looks like the Goverment in power wanted to hit back with all its might for some alleged wrong doings of one of its party member. Mr. Mody may look arrogant or maybe arrogant but he has created a brand like the IPL which would rank globally as an amazing achievement and no one can deny that. It seems the powers in the BCCI have been given a direct diktat to get him out by hook or by crook. Everyone seems to be hell bent on finding some fault with Mr. Modi suddenly and the media circus on the same has not really helped the cause. A few days from now the articles will probably phase out... the TV channels will stop discussing it as "Breaking News" but who is the loser after all. I hope Mr. Modi comes back with all guns blazing as he has shown the world what it takes to make a brand like IPL in just 3 short years. Cheers to that.

by ratnajayant gudavally on Apr 29, 2010 09:45 PM

Brand building or self building ???.....One man's judgement/expression statements like this need not undo the dirty money laundering act of a unscrupulous money amassing ........yet another corrupt person who brings disrepute not only to Cricket but India as well.

They should be cleared off from such prestigeous and save the prestige of India and Indians in the rest of the world.

Hyperbole
by One Liner on Apr 29, 2010 09:42 PM  | Hide replies

Good thoughts but a few hyperboles:
1. Modi did not pioneer this change in Indian cricket. It was ICL - Modi and BCCI cruelly scttled it
2.IPL is certainly not the greatest sporting brand in the world - there are many above it - FIFA is definitely one among top. IPL does not come near to it. Even american football leagues though played in a few countries like cricket has much more money and definitely a bigger brand

IPL is the one of the fastest growing Sporting brand.FIFA started in the year 1904. American football league started in 1959. IPL started in 2008,So its growing very fast. Get away looser..

@Sakthi
nothing was original in IPL. the game was invented by ECB, city-based franchise was created by ICL, auctions are from NBA/NFL and finally, drug/match-fixing came from NBL (National Baseball League).

get out of the self-created delusion !!

cheers

It was Kapil Dev who started the ICL but could not continue because BCCI & Modi blackmailed all players who played in it saying they cannot play for India. Very funny!! Ha Ha.

the govt
by sri on Apr 29, 2010 09:41 PM  | Hide replies

The govt. went on the offensive against Modi because he had dared to shame in public one of its ministers. They are now trying to pretend that they went after corruption and mismanagement. India is not a true democracy!

Re: the govt

It is very pleasing to read Mr I S Bindra's views and hopes. Many of us were actually waiting to know Mr Bindra's views, particularly because he had the courage not to join the rest of them but to hold his own views. He has taken a very balanced view, and many of us are with him. We are confident that most of the charges will be proved to be untenable and the BCCI and IPL will be asked questions regarding their sleepiness and complicity. Modi's contribution to IPL and Indian cricket is certainly phenomenal and he is a marketing genius. Whether he was dishonest, and whether others were also with him, or whether he was OK and the move to eliminate him has been driven by professional envy, will be known only in the course of the next two or three months. Meantime, it will suffice to say that no power on earth , leave alone the BCCI and IPL brasses and the sensation-seeking press, has the right to vilify this genious Lalit Modi.
