As per ICC ranking Dhoni desrves this award however his perfromance in crucial matches shows that he still have to go long way to become no.1 ODI batsman.
Dhoni is not that poor a player but not that great to be reckoned as best in the business. I felt amused to see the awards and even the TEST team of the year and ODI rteam of the year.
Seems that the SELECTION COMMITTEE was pretty immature and incompetent this time around. Moreover the nominations were a few and hence INDIANS could get these awards. But more than awards, INDIAN crciket needs good show at ICC EVENTS and not necessarily winning TRISERIES where thrid team is always below par.
DHONI has been suffering from acute LEADERSHIP SYNDROME where he fail to handle management part of it (be it players within team or selectors). Also he needs media management skills where he is almost becoming a LAUGHING stock.

I deserve and got recognition in my filed for consisteny and sustainability, which DHONI failed to deliver, of course the magnitude differs and of course the visibility. People like me needs to delvier consistently to earn their bread and butter, unlike cricketers who needs to play once in a while to earn their places for the entire year. And apart from that they are privilaged to do, say or behave the way they want. There is absolute disparity between a performer within us and within privileged people.

You may call it as drawback in ICC's point calculations. The same case is with me but we cant' complain that cricketers are earning even though they play once in a ligfetime. This is the way how it goes in India.

Appreciate your views.
I feel its time when we make tough analysis and should not get carried away for short time performers at any walk of lfe including our cricket stars.
The life is very TOUGH for all of us and the same message needs to be conveyed to this overhyped privilged cricketers. They have to earn their love and admiration from public ONLY and ONLY if they do not give up tamely (does not matter if they loose at times).
The current team led by DHONI is dominated by individual egos (DHONI him self, SEHWAG, YUVI, BHAJJI and even SHRIKANT as selector etc.) and there lies the challenge for the LEADERSHIP. DHONI is fading very fast in handling the situation. Even DHONI start playing (thouh scoring runs for whch he got award) but failed to inspire team to deliver in the manner he accumulate the runs and lost his midas touch as a finisher.

Yes. I agree with you. But this problem is not with Dhoni alone. Just look at our fast bowlers at the start of their careers they bowl at 145-150kmph speed and as they get more appreciateions, money, fame they come tdown to 125-130 and sometimes even struggle to find their line and length. People in India, Media should understand these things and cricketer should be treated as normal sportsman and not like God. Every now and then we get to watch debate going on TV news channel about cricketers vs other soprtsperson in India and even they agree that cricketers are really treated like God here and they get much more name and fame that what they deserve. But the same news channel, next day will start showing dedicated covergae on some particular cricketers, So this is how it goes in our country.

Indian cricket team is not RESPONSIBLE towards nation in the way of winning. It's a game, and win/loss/performance only reflects a Team's show. We should refrain from directly relating it to the pride of nation.
