Quaility of cricket greats:Tips for Atherton and the likes !
by Guest on Nov 20, 2009 02:49 PM  | Hide replies

Yes Sachin is the greatest. I am talking of cricket and not only batting. He wears safety gears but has lesser body blows than others. He has hit more bouncers and body line than others. For this going forwards is not the only technique available. Apart from batting, he has a bowling average too. And what about fielding. Sachine has taken a good number of catches. I have seen players with lesser records never taking arduous fielding on the boundary line. And finally, the kind of cricket and its frequency that is played today would have been a nightmare for older stalwarts who used to play 4 months in a year. Many a times Sachin has suffered wrong decisions than others. And yet he is a perfect gentleman of all times.

I agree. But Atherton being an Englishman is not able to stomach the fact that their former subjects have outsmarted them in their own game. May god almighty give Atherton courage to accept the harsh truth and bestow peace of mind upon him.

For sachin haters and sachin lovers

Please stop comparing sachin with others....

in the last 2 decades no doubt tendulkar is greatest, but before sachin its Viv richards and before that some others else....

Its really unfair to compare the different generations bcoz they never played with each other....
how people compare the different generations,I really don't know?

atherton?? who is he???
by Atul Thakur on Nov 20, 2009 08:27 AM

If a 16 year Sachin could take the blow from Waqar younis then he didn't have guts?? or he had but he should have continued to play without helmet??? or the criteria for being the greatest batsman is that he should have played in bodyline series without wearing helmet?? whether he had scored or not he would have become great batsman for guts??? Or Atherton batted without helmet?? who is this guy?? Sachin would still have performed better, simple reason, Sachin played against many teams and those against one team. Sachin can anticipate bowling most often (number of bowlers) as has been told many times means if Sachin was playing against single team then he would have almost known every bowl that bowler is going to bowl, meaning could have performed better. Atherton means people who ride the motorbikes without helmet are real men and others are not?? Forget about would/ could have, judge the players on the basis of technique and runs not on the basis of guts. were all the bodyline series bowlers better than Akram, Waqar, Ambrose, Walsh, McGrath, Donald and what about playing Warne?? No credit for playing spin?? All these and many others have told that Sachin is greatest player including Hedley. If Atherton would have been bowler then he would have understood that. All the great batsmen including Bradman, Viv have considered Sachin in any all time team, why?? Because they know ABC of technique etc, they don’t just go by guts.

Agree with Atherton
by Injun Abhi on Nov 20, 2009 08:24 AM  | Hide replies

Agree with Atherton. Tendulkar's technique, commitment and love for the game is unparalleled but he still wears a helmet unlike Viv Richards or Sir Don. So yes, no one knows what would have happened had he not worn it. Come on guys, instead of attacking Atherton, let's be rational about it.

So your point is Tendulkar should have been born 20-50 years earlier to prove he was the greatest. Funny you talk of being rational.
Another point, Tendulkar plays at a time when a touring team arrives 5 days before the 1st test, where as Bradman and Richards went on tours which usually lasted 3-4 months and often had only test matches with no odis. Should that wear and tear be taken into account?

Sachin

Typical of the white race... They alone are entitled to be called the greatest... Others merely exist...Can I know which English Player has survuved 2 decades in the international arena ? Yes Tendulkar would be "inconvenienced" without protective head gear. Mr. Mike do you know of the days when English pacers used to hurl bouncers at Indian tail enders like B.S. Chandrashekar , Bedi et al ruthlessly.

Atherton?? who is he???
by Atul Thakur on Nov 20, 2009 08:08 AM  | Hide replies

See Sachin’s first interview as 15 year old, at that time he had told that he doesn’t fear facing Ambrose, Walsh and is ready to go to West Indies if given a chance. After that in Pakistan he was not wearing the grille so he was ready to face Ambrose, Walsh without grille (only 15 year old). He had told that he likes fast bowling coz it comes nicely on to bat. Forget man, Atherton, who is he?? Another fact I have never told that sachin is greatest batsman. Cricket is my religion and Sachin is God of Cricket, he is not just greatest batsman

He has survived death atleast 4 to 5 times in his career. Had he not worn the helmets in those times i dont think we would have ever have seen sachin playing cricket for such long.Check out the youtube videos and you will come to know.

Yes but that doesn't mean sachin doesn't have that technique and Mohinder amarnath is greatest batsman. If sachin wasn't wearing helmet he would obviously have left more deliveries. You talking of technique, so Mhinder amarnath told you that sachin is not great player?? who do you thing is greatest player apart from bradman and modern era??

Agreed that you didnt claim sachin to be the greatest batsmen and though cricket is not just about bouncers and helmet,One of the bouncer from akram would have terminated tendulkars career for ever if not for his helmet and you wouldnt have had the chance of even discussing who is the greatest. So you cannot lightly brush aside fact of bouncers and helmet.

dude suresh,
how many occurances were there before the helmet era, where a bowler ended a batsman's career? the number should be in hundreds right..but y its not the case..

coz..just like the mind-set of a batsman changes with the advent of helmets..so does the bowlers too..they can attack with more bouncers these days..coz they know batsman are well protected by gear...thats y u see more body hits..

olden days..the bowlers were well aware what they can do what they cant...except for rare series like 'bodyline'..thats y the series is so popular...
