He was, he is
by Abdul Rafique on Nov 14, 2009 08:18 PM

Maybe he is oldest, but still he is the best batsman in Indian team. Sehwag and Dhoni are already past his due date. Gambhir and Yuvraj are inconsistent. And less we talk about the youngsters the better. Rohit, Raina, Kohli, Utthappa are just flash in a pan.

Amit Kumar:

:) I can show you better averages than Ricky Ponting. :)

That will prove he is not the best batsman. :)

Why did you particularly pick out Hussey for ODIs? Didn't you hear about a certain David Warner who is the best Australian batsman currently? :)

Anyway, stop playing this "comparison game" coz it has no meaning. :)

Listen to what Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Viv Richards, Lara etc. have to say about Sachin, instead of telling us what YOU think about Sachin. :)

Nobody compares the speed of 100m and 400m runner. Only milestones matter.

Agree. Ponting in the same no. of tests (136) has a better record. But I would like to see his longevity..when he plays 159 tests, as Sachin has and 261 innings..will he have a better average, and more no. of centuries? We'll see. But on present stats, I have to agree Ponting has a better record. One of the problems is India, in Sachin's best years have played less tests as compared to Australia during Ponting's best years!!

Sachin's Best test knock
by Prashant Rathod on Nov 14, 2009 07:40 PM

Sachin's Best test knock according to me must be the 136 against Pakistan in Chennai the match it was 5th day pitch, it wasnt good for batting, Akram and saqulain mustaque were bowling their best, probably one of the best bowling attack, still Sachin signle handedly drifted match in our favor and lost battle due to lower back problem...

inspite of talent he is not a match finisher
by Radhakrishna on Nov 14, 2009 05:00 PM  | Hide replies

No doubt sachin is a great player with abundant talent he is a poor match winner.Secondly he has scored most of his runs on batting frendly pitches. Tirdly he is mentally weak since he is a very poor match finisher. There are umpteen instances where he suddenly gets out when victory tatget is reachable keeping in view his form at that time. He always plays for personal records rather than team victory.

Radhakrishna I pity you and your cricketing brains. Please for heaven's sake, if you don't know much about cricket just read but don't comment. Do you know what you mean by batting friendly pitches? Who told you Perth, Melbourne, Wanderers, Oval, Headingley, Sydney, Christchurch, Auckland or even Antigua as batting friendly pitches? Just check with some others they will let u know. Tendulkar has scored with gay abundance on this pitches. Secondly what do know about match finisher? Show me one opener in the history of the game who is known as finisher? Neither Lara, nor Ponting or even Hayden are match finishers. But match finishers are Dravid, Hussey, Bevan, Yuvi or even Dhoni who bat lower down the order. Openers job is to put foundation and the one-down and second-down batsmen are supposed to build the innings and the lower middle-order is supposed to finish things off. Hua poor match winner? Out of 45 centuries India has won 32 matches and he has scored 17 centureis while chasing and India has won 15 of them. Out of his 60 MoMs India has won 54 times. What else you need from a match winner? It's pathetic that throughout his career, albeit for a period when Dravid-Gangully combo supported him and off late people like Yuvi, Gambhir, Sehwag hold fort once in a while, most of the times, he has been a lone battler. Just see the innings other day in Hyderbad. India needed 19 of 18 deliveries when he got out.But we still lost the match. Should Tendulkar be blamed?

Well said Gladson.
I am fan of u.
U have a terrific knowledge of cricket & good brain for analysis.
All people who says sachin is not a match finsisher Are either doesn't understand crticket or ploliticaly motivated or do time pass on this forum or having low IQ. 60 MOM in ODI (world record) clearly suggests that he has has maximum no. of match winning inning in history of cricket

sachin is master bastman, now for yur misconception my friend if u remember 5th odi against australia in india latly he scored 175 runs now this is one of his centuries where there is no backup for him as 19 in 17 balls is not a big deal in 350 runs cricket match where india lost the game, criticsm always makes him stronger at last :-)
