One and Only One
by deewaker pandey on Nov 14, 2009 08:54 PM

there is no replacement of sachin. plenty of people are around who only watch cricket when sachin bats. now its 20 year for him.every1 is wishing him and admires he got are more than any one else in the country. thats shows how big he is and might be few players now a days earning more but the respect and position sachin have earned , other will never be able to earn.
there is no alternative of sachin.

what is your criteria of greatness?
how many players are there who have such a great records in both ODI and Tests after playing atleast 10 years?? how many of them have dominated on bowlers as he did since last 2 decade.

It all depends upon capability of an observer. If you do not find him better than other greats you mentioned, one can infer only one thihg...

you are the greatest F0.0L around.

Kunal Savarkar,

Did you play before Sunil Gawaskar? You seem to have better observance than Sunil Gawaskar.

Sunil Gawaskar consider Sachin as good as Don Bradman.

syed ali,
I have no problem who you think is better, as it is your personal choice.

But I have problem with your logic--a great batsman win matches.

Bowlers win matches and moreover a team wins matches due to collective efforts, not because an individual.

This only shows is you wrong motive.

by rahul on Nov 14, 2009 07:46 PM

let me share a true experience with sachin tendulkar. it was way back in 1991. he came to our city for an one-dayer with zimbabwe. we were waiting for autographs outside the hotel where the team stayed. tendulkar and another player were outside the hotel. we asked for autographs from both of them. tendulkar without any hesitation gave autograph and also posed for photographs with us. but the other player ignored us. he didnt last in the team for a long time. but look at sachin how successful he has become. tendulkar is still very humble and down to earth as he was at that time..

mr. LG, why are you hasitant to accept the truth?
I would say that sunil gavaskar was much better batstman ( test cricket) because he faced marshall, holding, imran, garner. Sachin himself has acknowledge this.

has sachin brought any world cup to india? Even though we got chance, he failed. he should have proved at that time.

Thanks for admiring Sunil Gavaskar. :)

As for "bringing" World Cups, why should Sachin bring it? :)

We'll rather have it couriered by Fedex if you don't mind. :)

well said.. infact Andy Roberts that Gavaskar faced. Most of the team injured in that series except Gavaskar and we forgot Jimmy Amarnath who can turn the match in India`s favour either with the bat & ball at crucial moment

C'mon.. are you saying that bringing world cup to India is a one man job... and that too particularly of Sachin? you must have gone nuts. So if that's your view, what about those players who played for so many years, earned loads of money, and retired without getting a world cup to India? Sachin still has that dream alive, while others just dreamt of earning monies.

Sachin is one of the great batsmen which cricket has seen till date. He has a array of strokes and can hit you to any part of the ground. Sachin has power packed strokes and with it he can pears the gap. He has played 20 years for India and has always given India those superb starts at run rates averaging between 6 to 12 per over .Sachin will be the first choice of any person while making the a world 11 team. Sachin has not only won matches as a batsman but has also wone matches as a bowler. His best knock till date has been against pakistan chasing 300 in the 2004 World Cup.
I wish him all Luck and am sure that he will get India World cup once again

Good Batsman
by syed ali on Nov 14, 2009 06:52 PM  | Hide replies

Sachin is definately a good batsman but not a great batsman. A great batsman is one who makes the team win with his contribution. Viv Richards was one among them. I remember ponting scoring big hundred against india in the world cup final. In the same match, tandulkar was out on duck to gleen macgrath. Even ponting is better batsman than sachin. One can see ponting raising to the occasion in imporatant matches.

Kapil was also a great sportsmen when he scored 175 not out against zimbabwe when india was something like 15/5

I would say wasim akram as great bowler when he turned around the final in 1992 in pakistans favour. he roused to his captain call.

Cricket is a game of 11 players. how can you compare Indian team with sachin to V.Richard's west indees and Poting's Australia (2 years back). Sachin didn't get any support from the team. Look at the last match whn india chased 350. Only sachin cannot win the match. He is the best cricketer india ever seen.

That what I am trying to tell you. A great batsman makes the team win on his own. He will not leave it for others to do it.

You told the truth. Bishen Sing Bedi once asked if he is a great batsman how he gets clean bowled frequently. Ponting, Imran and Richards clicked when it mattered. Richards once scored a double hundred with the help of tail enders and remained NO at the end to beat Aust in a test

Also, I have not seen Sachin dominating bowlers like wasim akram, mac grath, walsh, etc. By dominating, i mean converting good balls into sixes and fours. Especially, against wasim, he has played the ball on merit. he never dominated him.

Viv Richards, in one of the interview, told that he could see fear in the eves of bowlers when he came to bat.
