NEW CAPTAINS MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.
by thakur singh on May 26, 2009 05:29 PM

But for the change of captains every thing was same in both Banglore and Deccan's teams. they were placed ar seventh and eighth place last year. The dynamic leadership of both Gilchrist and Kumble, the thinking captains, who led from the front made all the difference. Besides V.V.S.Laxman's (who has been running a bad patch),absence from the team was a blessing in disguise.

Indo - Pak
by asif bhat on May 26, 2009 05:27 PM

After reading this board, it seems to me a cricket match between indo-pak. Rivalry runs deep into us. Let it be so. But my point here is that in both the ipls, it is white who is dictating and doing the roost. See how many white skins are captains and coachs and staff of respective teams. Last year it was OZ Shane and this year it was OZ Gilly not Sachin or Gangully or kumble failed to won the ipl final.Guess who will be the next. That is a million dollar question.

Rediff, please dont entertain any Pakistani players views.
by Raghavendra P on May 26, 2009 05:25 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Rediff,
Everyone knows that Deccan won the IPL-2 because of Gilchrist's captaincy and the team as a whole. Nobody needs any advice from a person like Afridi (or any pakistani player for that matter), who turned out to be a toad in the last season. Barring his quickest 100 he has nothing to boast of. So please excuse us from the views and suggestions of an under performer like Afridi.

Captaincy is a hyped up matter in T20. DD was leading till SF and was captained by Indians !The fact is that T20 is unpredictable and any team can beat anyother team. KKR had the most aggressive coach and aggressive batsman both phoren babas- but what is the result? Cool dude Dhoni was touted as the best captain in the short version of the game? he also bit the dust. Do not read too much into the result. Just enjoy the game and move on. Afridi is an ass !

It is not just T20 alone. Time to blend as a team is an issue. Also schedules and work load of international cricket. If you see, it is people who dont captain anywhere else that are doing good. They just have to deal with one set of players. But active players who captain international sides as well have to deal with lots of combinations. Too many factors in play. How easy we ignore those.

Even during last year for most of matches Gilly was captain
by Rajeev Mutalik on May 26, 2009 05:24 PM  | Hide replies

As Laxman was injured most of the time, gilly led DC team most of the time last year also. So blaming only Laxman's captaincy for last year's debacle is not right.

Captaincy made the difference
by thakur singh on May 26, 2009 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

The two teams which were at 7th and 8th places, in 2008, qualified and played in finals this times. All the players were same, than what made the difference. The difference was thechange of captaincy. In both the teams this year the captains were different, and tht made all the differene. The dynmic captains like Gilchrist and Kumble made the things completely change. In Deccan challengers last years captain V.V.S.Laxman due to bad form was benched, which was again a big blessing in disguise.

IF that is the case how about the teams that has the same captain and yet lost the plot...example...CSK, Mumbai Indians, Delhi daredevils etc. Likewise even KKR had change in captain yet they lost..There is not absolute logic in all this. Team which performed better on the match day won..As simple as that...

Shame on IPL... Blame BCCI
by SathishKumar Krishnan on May 26, 2009 05:21 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI very well portrait in the IPL that only the foreign Captains have the ability to win the IPL... BCCI must have a strategy that all the teams must have Indian as a captain. Why we name it as IPL when foreign players taking an oppurtunity to blame great Indian Players
