The odds
by Kannan on May 09, 2009 08:00 PM  | Hide replies

The odds are not bad, it is 1 in 50000 (1 in 46536 to be precise). there are 6 possibilities for each ball 0,1,2,3,4,6.

Assuming each SMS costs Rs 10, the contest would be a fair one if each winner made about Rs 4 lakhs (the organizers take 6536*10 rupees for conducting the contest). The rules in betting houses in the US is that 93 % of the collections have to go as prizes, the betting house keeps about 7%.

You wont win my dear fellow! The odds are higher. There can be Wides, Noballs and free-hits, overthrows all of which make the number of runs per genuine ball unpredictable. Also, if you are a cricket follower, surely you have seen a 5 scored from one ball.

What about the online games where users make their teams or buy/sell players like cricex on ibibo or zapak or virgin's hatke league?

Hatim,

If you shut down stock markets, companies won't be able to raise money from the public. That will kill the economy.
Some people treat stock markets as gambling but that doesn't mean that they don't exist for a very useful purpose.

Regards,
Santosh

Why should you leave out the websites that make people take part in prediction games? Even there these sites make money through advertising like ibibo cricex or zapak's ZOD or indianfantasyleague?

GO AND CHARGE THE POLITICANS WHO USE POLITICS FOR MONEY GAINS
by sachin on May 09, 2009 07:54 PM

Why pick cricket. First go and charge the dirty and garbage politicians, who make money out of politics, beg for votes, come in power, and forget the common man for the next five years. Please leave cricket alone which is in good hands. There are politicians in cricket but I dont see any wrong doings. Lots of cricketers have gained from IPL, some of them didnt even have a proper house. Go and get some life Gill.

Should take action
by roopesh raghavan on May 09, 2009 07:45 PM

Govt should take stringent action against this type of activiteis not only betting but also reality show winner prediction. Being a developing country and half of our population is under proverty we dont have the luxury of other countries having. Last worlds 7 wonders selection thru sms later came out as fake after many fools (like me) send sms for Rs.7 per sms. Millions of Rs. went to the pockets of our service providers. If every boady gave 1 Re out of this 7 Rs to the needywe would have made a difference.

Sold lock, stock & barrel
by Umesh Shah on May 09, 2009 07:35 PM  | Hide replies

Cricket in India has been sold lock, stock & barrel to Pawar & Modi.

Someone should tell them that when they depart this world, they will depart naked like every one else.
