It is fine that he should denounce betting but WHAT was he doing when Congress selected AZruthin to contest on congress ticket, come on Mr Gill know what your party is upto
The ICC , Govt of India and all cricket loving fans should immediately step in and stop the nonsense that's coming out from a craps called Lalit Modi, I.S. Bindra and Sharad Powar. They are out to kill Cricket for sure. This is crossing all limits. Thanks to Mr.Gill - atleast we have one honest minister who is doing his job.
Ban all such nonsense activities. Most of the proceeds benefit mobile phone operators which are predominantly foreign companies. Its a loophole being exploited and eventually the mindsets of individuals is being diverted towards gambling by making such predictions. Strict action by authorities by placing a ban will set a good precedent.
CRICKET IN INDIA WILL DIE SOON AND THE ONE AND ONLY BODY RESPONSIBLE FOR IT WILL BE THE BCCI. THE IPL CAN BE BEST DESCRIBED BY JANA GANA MANA FROM RGV'S RANN..
This is for all the nuts.. i totally agree with what Mr. Intelectual (Mr gill siad) second is that if you want to predict na then better write 000000 (it has maximum probability
Here's how gambling works: I *pay* a bookie Rs. X, betting on a certain outcome. By payoff, if the outcome is as I predicted, is based on odds (demand & supply). If I don't predict correctly, I lose all my money.
Is it gambling if I ask someone to predict an outcome and lose nothing if they get it wrong? Where's the gamble? It's gambling if you can lose something... The only thing lost here is 3 hrs of your precious time, watching a stupid perversion of the game.
If this logic is accepted, then game shows like wheel of fortune, price is right, and so forth are also gambling. I would argue that a contestant guessing some answer he/she doesn't know on KBC is also gambling (in fact you may lose money). How about lucky draws (raffle) at Ganeshotsavs and other places, where a number is drawn from a jar, and the person with that number is given a prize? If I didn't pay for putting my number in that jar, it's not gambling.
Finally, all states in India run lottery. If that's not gambling, please explain what is...
The fact is, the only game that India is half decent at is cricket. Is it a coincedence that this is also the only game that is not dependent on the government for revenue and support? I think not.
PS: I think IPL is an amazingly retarded game, that requires no skill or finesse. Mindless slogging is the key... But, you can't argue with success...

PS: I understand that SMS is not free. You would pay the same rate for this SMS, as compared to any other SMS in the same area? So, most of the money went to the carrier then...

But they are making money for sure. For example, if 100000 people predict the answer, the winner will be only ONE? What will be the prize money they will offer? Say maximum 20,000 or 25,000? But then if 100000 sms amount will be 100000 x Rs.3...so you can imagine....
