Mr. Bharat, for your kind information let me tell you one thing that ICL has started quite before the IPL. And we must ahd should give full credit to Mr. Subhas Chanda for running a cricket league. Many former Indian cricketers who brought glory to the country in 1983 are with the ICL and they have performed very well in the recent past. So we want ICL should stay. It is totally the adamant mentality of BCCI of not giving any type of Recognition to this ICL. But very soon ICL take on BCCI to the court after the ICC's meeting this month in Dubai....We are with ICL, Long live ICL....

That is armtwisting!!
by Bhasmasur Rakshas on Mar 31, 2009 07:35 PM  | Hide replies

This is the worst example of subtle string pulling and a blatant attempt at arm twisting.......
It is only a reflection of the inordinate and lopsided power wielded by the BCCI in cricketing circles..

Having power and clout is not bad per se, but if that power is used to shoulder butt weaker boards and force them to put on the blacklist players affiliated to the ICL, then that is a blatant misuse of power...

What right has the BCCI got to hijack the careers of Mohammad Yousuf, Shane Bond, Chris Harris, Jason Gillespie??

Were it not for the power twisting by the BCCI, these players would not have been blacklisted by their respective boards......

Sad reflection of our times where economic clout has taken precedence over cricketing ability!!

Mr rakshas if tday chandra given permission there will be 10 more leagues starting here in india....there wont be any one to stop them and none of them official.the compitativeness of the game will die somewhere under the glamour and commercial part.all palyers of world cricket will be seen playing for ambani,chandra,tata..and many others....competative cricket will be lost in the process

Point is well taken but is said that you are supposed to corss the bridge only when it comes.....

The ICL is only focusing on T20 cricket much like the professional Pro 40 circuit run in county circles in England..
If the ICL spreads its tentacles and starts adding test and ODI formats to its calendar, the BCCI can then act decisively to nip the league's aspirations in the bud....
I don't think the BCCI needs to be so insecure over a T20 format run by an enterprising bizman...

Why did these players leave their country teams and came to ICL? Was it not for money? Is that not economics? Are these players not more greedy then others who jumped up as soon as they saw opportunity to make money for themselves. Others in their teams who waited, got best of the both worlds. They got honour of playing for their country teams as well as money through IPL.

DONT WATCH IPL if u hate it so much
by Vishwanathan Anand on Mar 31, 2009 07:31 PM  | Hide replies

I see so many hate messages for IPL here... hay guys if u hate it so much - DONT WATCH IT

the TRP will definitely drop and IPL will be detroned from its spot....

whoever complains of the commercial format of IPL should boycott it... by watching it they become part of that commercialisation.... the more people watch it, more popular it will be...
Frankly I love IPL and ICL is nowhere close to the excitement...

Yes, because ICL is nothing but a Supplement Tonic for Zee Sports.
There is no question of comparing IPL with ICL. Except that both are associated with cricket, there hardly is anything that ICL can claim to be better.

IPL is commercial, but it is not run by only one guy. It has 8 different franchises and many many people working on it.

On the other hand, ICL is the monopoly of Subash Chandra. Broadcast on Zee Sports, Advertising DishTV, website run by ICL itself.

If you are really a fan of ICL, follow this:

a. Buy only Dish TV. Not any other brand.

b. Watch only Zee Sports.

IPL

Many have lost interest in the IPL since it is going to be conducted outside and who is responsible for this it is the BCCI, tthe board should simply have postponed the matches of the IPL since elections are more important in India then IPL. ICL is indeed better than IPL since all the matches are staged in India and IPL should change its name to CNI-cannot hold matches in India-it's really is a shame-heads on.

No question of postponing the matches as players are available only in a certain amount of time where they dont have to play for their country.
BCCI made this arrangement with other boards so that their players can play in IPL. If BCCI postpones IPL, even Indian international cricketers wont be available.

ICL is indeed closing
by Abhishek Jain on Mar 31, 2009 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

After reading this article, it has become certain that ICL is planning to close down. If ICL would have closed down just like that, it would have been a major embarresment for Subhash Chandra. Now they have got a good scapegoat "the meeting of ICC on 17-18 Apr". It is pretty clear that ICC is not going to legalize ICL (both by the pressure of BCCI as well as increasing clamour of India in world cricket, and legalizing ICL would further mean increasing importance of India in world cricket which ICC cannot tolerate). Even Subhash Chandra would be doing back door diplomacy to make ICC not legalize ICL. That way, ICL will be able to save it's face in front of media and the world and they would squarely blame ICC and BCCI for not allowing it to flourish. (And who knows BCCI may have paid something to ICL for closing down).
Win-win both for Chandra and BCCI...!!! (Politics at its peak)....

Yes it is not. But that is business. Their hard luck that they jumped up first for ICL and did not wait for IPL. seems like a hard truth but it is what it is.
I guess the sole reason ICL failed was that it was not hyped appropriately. It was not telecast properly on television (who in the world watches Zee sports) and there was no corporate rivelry brought it (like IPL). Its like Father (subhash Chandra) has 8 sons (different teams) and the sons are fighting among themselves in their house and they have only 1 window open (zee sports) for onlookers to see. Who is interested in such a fight. If there are 8 sons of 8 neighbours fighting on the street, whole world is watching it from every direction. That is what people are interested in.

Players?
by doctor bulla on Mar 31, 2009 07:06 PM

ICL head would be happy if he could get a franchisee. What more he could ask for? But think about the players, especially Indian domestic players who may have got enough money for now, but they wouldn't have any chance of getting back into Ranji too.

On the other hand, it would benefit players like Shane Bond who would be grabbed up by on or the other franchisee for a good amount of money. Porki players would also be happy to play for their porkistan..

ICL VS IPL
by dileep bhat on Mar 31, 2009 07:01 PM  | Hide replies

How can BCCI ask ICL to merge with it? BCCI is a total failure. Whites (Aus, NZ and Eng) are ruling ICC and World Cricket. They are imposing ban on Zimbabwe, just because Zimbabweans are blacks. However they forgot Pakistan (Pakistanis are comparatively whites). They didn't awarded that test in Sri Lanka's favour when Lankan players were attacked.

India is a peace loving country, Pakistan is terror state which whole world knows about it. Sri Lanka does not bother about their players that is why they ask them to play in pakistan.

If India does not have talents we could not have beaten Australia in Australia who are no.1 team.

If ICL stays in India (playing matches in India) then that is the real Indian league and IPL ditched India and went out, so they are not ours anymore.....
