Brave words but empty words
by Vinal Gandhi on Mar 31, 2009 08:02 PM  | Hide replies

Brave words from ICL but empty ones. ICL was any case no match for IPL and now the recession has made sponsors shy away from ICL. If things were not worse, anbsence of Porki cricketers from ICL has taken away the only drawing power it had. ICL has already cancelled its April- May event and October event is also doubtful. Sooner then later we will see the demise of ICL. And ICL was not doing any noble thing of promoting cricket. It was a business venture just as IPL is. So do not shed any tears on its demise

It was because of the ICL that the BCCI had to raise salaries of domestic cricketers and start the IPL. If the Indian domestic cricket stars now get a chance to play abroad (SA) they should now thank the ICL. ICL maybe a business venture but it is important for all businesses to have fair competition to keep them on their toes and to provide real value to employees and customers alike. In this way I will shed tears for any pioneer's demise.

BCCI raised salaries of domestic players much before ICL commenced operations. And the real logic behind ICL to commence was not any phelanthropic but because BCCI cancelled Zee's contract and Subhash Chandra wanted to hit back. Secondly Mody of BCCI had this idea about Cricket league in line with EPL long before ICL but BCCI at that time under Dalmiya shot down the idea. Granted, ICL was a good thing to have happened but ultimately sponsors dried up and that is hardly BCCI's fault.

Why can't IPL and ICL co-exist ? Why should ICL be closed ? and this rubbish about considering ICL players as "illegal" won't be tolerated any longer . in the 70 s when Tony Greig and Co. went to play World Series they were not allowed to play regular international cricket after returning. They went to court and sued and got justice. Same will happen with players like Justin Kemp,Shane Bond and more players if BCCI does not allow them to play international cricket just because they are in ICL

I agree with you that IPL and ICL should be allowed to co-exist and may the tourney more favored by people win! But that's the nature of business. Could you envisage another football league independant of FA to exist? Could you think of a parallel Olympic to take place independant of IOC? ICL should have realized that IPL has more power, more money and more authority. They tried to prevail but failed. Look at the attendance figures at ICL and compare them with IPL's.

both of u r right but ppl should look cricket as game n not as business. only cricket council can owe d tournaments n not private. it must have international approval as 50-50.

The nearest individual who had challenged the authority of an organization was Kerry Packer. And even he had to shut down his operations, though he had more acceptance amongst players then the individual country boards of that time. Any why he so nearly succeeded? Because he was offering more money. IPL is offering much more money then ICL. So afterall, it is all about money honey! No game today is only a game. Everything is business and money matters. Those who have deeper pockets alwys win in the end.

KEEP ICL GOING- THATS is Real Cricket
by Amit Sharma on Mar 31, 2009 07:59 PM  | Hide replies

corrupt pawars (not powers) just started IPL to match ICL as BCCI was going downhill. The twiste face did not like losing corrupt revenues. Hence IPL is the one thatneeds to shut down and NOT ICL.

Dont give that bull sh*t...The ICL owners are not here for philanthrophy...People like Kapil dev and others have only joined for the money. Do u think they would join ICL and accept no pay.If that is the case then only can u say that they are interested i the welfare of cricket

BCCI has done a good job
by paikhana on Mar 31, 2009 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

BCCI has done a good job by keeping ICL at bay. Otherwise, tomorrow some sheikh form gulf will come to start a cricket league saying that his sports channel wants to rule cricket. Then, one more sheikh will come and so on. Finally, India would have more than ten different leagues managed by petrol pump owners, i.e. sheikhs. Already many top football clubs are being bought by them incl. MAN U.

BCCI is arrogant,selfish,narrow-minded and greedy . It has been ill-treating ICL for long and now still refuses to change ! They even hesitated to invite Kapil Dev for felicitation ceremony beacuse he happened to be chairman of ICL .In the event they invited him but the whole thing speaks much about their attitude. BCCI hurriedly fixed dates for IPL without even considering elections and now has paid for its folly as the tournament has been shifted to South Africa .Why can't IPL and ICL co-exist ? Why should ICL be closed ? and this rubbish about considering ICL players as "illegal" won't be tolerated any longer . in the 70 s when Tony Greig and Co. went to play World Series they were not allowed to play regular international cricket after returning. I am really regretted because lot players are abadoned from the matches due to terror attack as well security concern.Eventually icl is striving to get place in india as well overseas to promote their publicity by means of cricket.Honestly icl could not fight with bcci by all the way , because bcci is richest board forever in the world, becuase of crazy fans and only game dominating in our nation. Eventhough other games are also playing but does not reach to public due inadequate resource and in efficient management and politics between members. Everybody intention to rob money from the government and store into their locker. Is all not ashame to us. We are standing 2nd place in population but we could not win any medals respectively. we are loning every olymbic for getting gold to represent india to the world. It is really disgusting to all.

bcci is a bully.

BCCI did everything to ruin ICL from political pressure to pressure on the spoansors, even they didn't pay the dues of those Indian players who played in ICL. such a shame for BCCI.

in short, BCCI did everything un-sporty in the name of sports. shame on BCCI

ICL the Patenter
by Clinton Borges on Mar 31, 2009 07:42 PM

ICl developed the idea of a league. The BCCI tried their level best to squash it, armtwisting etc..Finally they started their own and ensured by their political methodology that no one will enter ICL. Heroes like Kapil are side-tracked and enterpreneurs like Subhash Chandra face opposition. Its sad that politicians enter every where wherever their is money. Who says the licence raj is over?
Level the playing fields and then the match outcome will be true!
And yes, definitely some will find IPL better after all they have weaned away the stars(using the BCCIs clout). Even ICC has become a puppet in the hands of BCCI
