ICL v. IPL: Whom Would You Choose ?
by Joshua Gracias on Mar 31, 2009 09:41 PM

ICL just isnt promoted well. Blame could very well be thrown @ the ICC for doing so.
@ the end of it all, ICL is the right cricketing ground compared to the IPL. Prove me wrong... but i've got reasons to plainly and simply put it with !
What would a person know about cricket who has never ever played it? As Kapil Dev and he will describe it the best!
By discriminating against ICL, the BCCI is acting like an idiot with no sense of any cricketing ethic or morals. Cricket isnt about just money... its about the players and the love for the game. You dont need to mix it up with some blockbuster movie makers or stars. Providing opportunities to youngsters is what ICL does whereas IPL... sheerly depends on player power, star cricketers, film stars, and the lot.
As the bleachreport puts it : "IPL just gives those men who have minted money in International cricket and endorsements to mint more money, it is not at all helping the cause of cricket." !!!

ICL was the first league which gave oppurtunity to the local indian players. IPL is all about advertising the "Stars". now with 5 players in team coming in from various countries..its an oppurtunity to the raising stars of other countries ....rather than for young budding India crickets. IPL is big opportunity but should encourage more local players.

Shane Bond and Darryl Tuffey and Pakistani players Mohd Yousuf and Rana Naved ul Hasan, Abdur Razzak, they are 'local' Indian players, right?

He cannot keep feeding all these ICL cricketers, officials, and office bearers (including Kapil) with out getting anything back from them. No one is running a charity here. He wants to see some ROI. Do what you are best in. So take care of your Media business. The best thing would be to get an IPL Franchise and move on... Thanks

I feel really very pity for Subash Chandra when I see couple of hundred spectators in the stadium. He got in to this tr@p because of some bad advice. But his e-go is holding high enough that he couldn't come out of it. I hope that he might be searching for some reason to close this event altogether.

IPL / ICL
by Sastry Dhavala on Mar 31, 2009 09:23 PM

ICL should not have come into being, simply because of Subhash Chandra's business interests. Favouritism was rife and still is, in BCCI, which caused deep humiliation among some worthy players, who were repeatedly ignored by both Associations at state level and BCCI at national level, in order to accommodate and promote a few blue eyed boys. The effected players found a vent to their frustrations in ICL. And in fact without ICL, IPL would not have been there. ICL's advent forced BCCI to start IPL. It copied the blue print of ICL schedules and used its enormous money power to redesign IPL Twenty20 tournaments into a fabulous extravaganza. More and more young players got opportunity to play and earn and mingle with International players. On the whole the fallout of ICL has been good to many seasoned and budding cricketers, either directly or indirectly.

ICl is utter waste.................
by SachinTheGreat on Mar 31, 2009 09:22 PM  | Hide replies

This IPL and ICL are all waste coz they are nothing but entertainment and not about Cricket, ICL is really worst coz first of all nobody watched it but only few Pakistan people watched coz they supported their team in Ahmedabad.

Rakhi Sawant was brand ambassidor of this ICL, Now what more insult to Cricket do u need, This pro-s Rakhi Sawant was sitting with another pro-s(dpnt know the name) who was presenter and they were wearing nothing.

The problem was not that these pro-s were sitting there but they were sitting along side Kapil Dev and talking about Cricket :-)

:-)

BCCI is arrogant,selfish,narrow-minded and greedy . It has been ill-treating ICL for long and now still refuses toi change ! They even hesitated to invite Kapil Dev for felicitatioin ceremony beacuse he happened to be chairman of ICL .In the event they invited him but the whole thing speaks much about their attitude. BCCI hurriedly fixed dates for IPL without even considering elections and now has paid for its folly as the tournament has been shifted to South Africa .Why can't IPL and ICL co-exist ? Why should ICL be closed ? and this rubbish about considering ICL players as "illegal" won't be tolerated any longer . in the 70 s when Tony Greig and Co. went to play World Series they were not allowed to play regular international cricket after returning. They went to court and sued and got justice. Same will happen with players like Justin Kemp,Shane Bond and more players if BCCI does not allow them to play international cricket just because they are in ICL
