Lalit Modi
by sanath on Mar 24, 2009 08:46 PM  | Hide replies

The views of fans across this forum can be understood as their disappointment, not only about not seeing live the matches, but also disappointment at the govt not being able to provide the security required. It is indeed a big letdown.

As a matter of fact, I never used to like Lalit Modi due to his stand on the ICL etc, but this one step has made me appreciate him as he has taken one grand step by taking on the govt who expected him to toe their line. At least this guy had the gall to call their bluff, and take the tournament out of the country instead of calling off. Lets face facts as they are, Lalit Modi owes the fans, but he also owes the franchises and sponsors without whom the fans would not be watching this tournament. As businessmen, they are entitled to their paisa vasool and can't be asked to lose their money. If the tournament has been called off or anything done which would affect the revenue, the next chapter of IPL would not have happened.

Now by asking the govt to go fly a kite, the govt has a lot of egg on their face and are making botched attempts to justify, for eg watch NDTV where news is flashed repeatedly that Sachin and Yuvi have justified shifting IPL outside the country, whereas all newspapers have reported that they are disappointed that IPL had to be taken out of the country. The govt inded has given out a very wrong message about the security situation in our country.

This above message was posted by me and redif has marked it as abuse. I would like to ask rediff and the ppl on this forum how this can be abuse as according to rediff's abuse criteria it shud be either Irrelevant, Pornographic, spam,
using abusive language, using copyrighted material, or libelous.

As none of these conditions apply, I would like to ask, is it abuse becoz the cong govt was criticized ?

Hey guy it is Possible for IPL to atleast conduct the last stage of the tournament in India. I Think it will be after General election and our Govt will spare the forces...

If possible they can conduct the last phase of the Trnt including Semis & Final IN India......

Blessings in Disguise

It is actually good that IPL is now going global and generate more TRP's and establish BCCI's supremacy in Cricket.
Just imagine when Televisions in South Africa will generate more TRP's than that of International Matches between South Africa and Australia
Its all about GOING GLOBAL and doing Business without Boundaries and shackles of Limitations

It is a great loss to our govt. It is everybody's intention to see match live and not through Television. I would appreciate if IPL should have rescheduled matches after our general election. We all the people should give priority to elect a new government rather than IPL. While the whole world is under frozen economy, how IPL is blossoming? Seeing live or on T.V. when the matches are played in India cannot be compromised to any other venues. VERY PATHETIC TO SEE IPL IS ONLY INTERESTED IN MAKING MONEY AND NOT TO ENTERTAIN INDIAN CRICKET FANS.

IPL shifted because of Cong's attitude
by Sreeram Ramaswamy on Mar 24, 2009 08:44 PM

Because of Cong-ruled state govts and an impotent govt at the Center, our own IPL has been forced out of our country. Elections come and go, but life can't come to a standstill. Next year, we have Commonwealth Games coming up in Delhi. Will the govt site Delhi Municipalty elections or some other elections and force the games out of the country?

Its correct decision
by kiran on Mar 24, 2009 08:37 PM  | Hide replies

They have taken right decision to shift IPL out of India at this moment considering any one small BAD incident happens during match/elections, other teams will be worried to tour India in future.
We have common wealth games and world cup coming in future, so i feel its a right decision taken now.

Nicely put down. But one can not deny that it has helped some players like Yusuf Pathan,Pragyan Ojha, Gony , Dinda shoot into limelight. So, I would say , there was some positives with respect to indian cricket.
