Why Congress Chiddu did not want IPL in election season?
by sanjay on Mar 23, 2009 10:35 AM  | Hide replies

Why Congress Chiddu did not want IPL in election season?

1) Nobody will attend rallies
2) Nobody listen to their boaring speeches.
3) Journos will go to matches
4) Nobody will see leaders faces on TV.
5) So less exposure.

and last cricket (IPL) unites India whereas these leaders devide India.

And at a venue a single day match and election may collide that could have been avoided. They could not have been played on voting day there. Why no matches for entire period?

no matches were proposed on voting days( 5 days) by latest schedule..

Matches on 5 voting days were starting 8 PM in the evening which wudn't hav made any difference to voting.

Who the hell is Election commissioner to decide when and where IPL will be held???
And who is "taking away" whom???
Is BCCI kidnapping you to SA or England to watch matches???
What the hell r u taking abt??
Don't u know a lot of people skip office/school/colleges just to watch cricket matches??? Does that not affect our progress???
At least there will be less people waste their time of work if IPL is held at a different place and time zone.
And regarding security, this govt cannot promise that... irrespective of election. It's just an excuse. They are just scared to take up any critical responsibility.

At a time when whole country would be witnessing Elections which had to held because of Constitutional requirement, it was not right for IPL to be held during this season particularly when students prepare for Exams/Completition. This could had been postponed.

No sudhir, it couldnt have been posteponed as there is no other space in the entire year to hold his tournament... and cancelling was not an option as a lot of people would have lost a lot of money...
so i feel the best decision has been taken

BCCI Should be dissolved
by Vinu Mon on Mar 23, 2009 10:26 AM  | Hide replies

BCCI is acting as a super power now.

BCCI should be resolved and a govt approved association should take charge of indian cricket.

All the sports associations should be under the control of Indian Govt. Who ever violating this should be removed. What BCCI done now is a insult to indian govt. and thereby the indian people as we have democratic govt.

Hope Mr. Chidambaram will do necessary for this effect.

I request indians to boycott IPL, as they aiming for huge money on advertisement sacrifising our National pride.

Nice, do u know whereever govt. get involved uska satyanash ho jata hai. Do u know all the sports association of olympic is under the govt. control and u know the result.
Last year we had blast during IPL at Jaipur, but this cricketer shown the courage to play inspite of such kind of attack. We have to fight with this terriorist with showing courage, it doesnt mean we should not go to play as if we move outside someone can harm.

Check any big democracies, when general election is going on, no other major events can be conducted.

It BCCI's utter foolishness that they scheduled this event during election time.

It is very clear that we can not give security, that is the reason we are conducting the election in 5-6 phases. above that how govt can give security for IPL, after the pakistan shoot out !

It is political game planned by BCCI

IPL is making fool of Indian Public
by Shreyas Patel on Mar 23, 2009 10:25 AM  | Hide replies

People of India should realize that IPL is not created for them but it is created to make rich even more richer. It is completely baselesss that IPL saying sorry to Indian people. I cann't digest the statement of BCCI. We are not fool & not dying for IPL. Show me the person of India who will give priority to IPL ahead of Civilian's life. I still believe, Indian government should able to handle IPL security as well. But bottom line is, if some unwanted event happens, politicians will tell that we warned earlier. So ultimately people have to suffer.

Govt admission of failure
by A C on Mar 23, 2009 10:24 AM  | Hide replies

It is a shame that there were no locations considered safe enough to play a tournament in India. It lacks of political will decisiveness, inept bureaucrats who cant find a solution within the country. So, why not take our problems of Kashmir, Naxals, ULFA etc also out of the country to mediate a solution.
It is a shame that a country with huge resources cant even provide four safe venues to host a tournament.

The home minister has in his past record as FM also shown how to block development, introduction of service tax on non service items, increasing interest rates, blocking flow of NRI funds that were highest forex source being reduced to neglible, Export incomes being taxed leave alone incentivisation. He had done all possible to damage the economy. Now, even as Home Minister he ensured that business and expenditure in India is gone overseas where this is akin to importing stadiums when we have our own and funding the other countries sporting activity.

Lack of imagination to accept face of things to come.
