well, captains of different era should not be compared. ganguly built on his past team's foundations, and dhoni is building on ganguly's work. unless there's a downturn. the chart has been steadily on the upturn sicne azar's time, we did have teporary slides - but its been on the way up.

Actually the moderator of this article is mallu Priyadarshan who is a big copycat just like his namesake and he is proving that mallu's are Bhoot-nike morons :-)
What is special about it. Its a 2-country match and Team India has won it. Is it going to make a difference for us. Have they won an olympic medal so that we are proud of it?
This is a purely private and commercial game and the winner will be the team who has maximum sponsors so that they could commercially exploit it through advertisements. Thats why International cricket is now round the year affair so that the Consumer and finance companies can advertise their overrated substandard products through cricketers and film stars. This is the reason why Film stars and cricketers have grouped together.
For example Hero Honda sells it motorcycles for 50k, but the actual retail cost (inclusive all taxes etc) should be 36k (a friend of mine working in HH told me). So, a consumer pays 14k extra due to its advertising through cricketers. So is the case of Potato chips, buiscuits, Pepsi, Coke, Insurance policies which are sold with high margin and hidden agenda and people buy because cricketers endorse it.
There are other games in which India wins tournaments like Hockey, Basketball, Boxing,Shooting etc, but they are not celebrated by Indians because they are not commercially exploited.

I fully agree with Mr Amit.
The problem with Cricket lovers is that they are very crazy like fundamentalists. And if write anything against their wishes, they turn defensive and many times abusive. But they do not like to listen to the reality as they are addicted to the religion cricket.

don't quite agree. Do you think cricketers would have got endorsements had they or cricket not been popular? secondly, hero honda would get a hockey star for a much lower endorsement fee which would make the retail selling price maybe 38000/-. And basic understanding of economics tells us that lower price increases demand. Still why is hero honda after these cricket stars. Certainly not without reason, right?

Its a demand created through excessive ads through cricketers and film stars. And people are paying the excess cost not for the bike, but for the impact of their favorite cricketers. Had this not been the case, HH would had been selling it for 38k.
A glass of rich lassi costs Rs 10, and a 300 ml bottle of cold drink costs Rs 10. There is no comparison between the contents. But cold drink sells like hot cake, simply because it is endorsed by the cricketers. If our local lassi guy will get it product endorsed by cricketers, you won'yt mind paying even Rs 50 for the Rs 10 lassi. Thats the advantage consumer companies taking advantage of cricket and cricketers.

Yes you are right. Everyone is talking about Cricket and only Cricket. In India Sports Means only Cricket. When everyone is talking about smallest record of cricket like largest partnership vs NZ in NZ but nobody knows the records like Highest Goal Scorer for India in Hockey etc.
