They dont need to target the Players. All they need to do is cause injury to a number of viewers. and they just need to do it once...and all the players will jump from their bullet proof vans to the next Jet out of here....The insistence of the BCCI to hold this torunament just shows their commitment to making the most money they can.
In reply we the people should just boycott the whole tournament.

you damn right .. with IPL there is going to be lot of mass accumulated in one spot making it sweet target for terrorists.. if only players are protected and the spectators are exposed to the threat it will still bring an end to IPL.
By just providing security to players they want to have good international image and trust so they can cash in more money every year.. bloo-dy no one cares for the common people as they have already made money by giving rights to broadcast channels

What about lakhs of people gathering for the stupid election rallies? Wont they be a sweet target as well? Will the government stop the election if something happens to Mass?

You and I can decide to go or sit out and watch from home. What about the policemen just with lathi (sticks) trying to protect these guys? These Modis at the top have no perception of reality.

92 crores revenue for Government
by Saibaskar Parthasarathy on Mar 20, 2009 07:45 PM  | Hide replies

Government of India earned 92 crores during last season IPL just as income tax alone (Source Indian Express). Apart from this IPL organizers would have paid for security to the government. This is what government earned as direct revenue. Now, as an economic activity of a big scale think about what kind of indirect income this would have generated for the government. Still, our ex-finance minister is hell bent on pulling this event down. His excuse is elections. I still dont understand apart from few days before and after elections in each state why government cannot provide security. MHA could have insisted on better security to IPL organizers in a more constructive way. Rather they seem to be hell bent on blocking IPL. Curiously enough i think Mumbai is the most vulnerable city in India and it is gonna host more matches than any other venue. This fact alone explains MHA's obstruction has more to do with politics than due to any unmanagable security concern. Things will fall in place once NCP and Congress agree on seat sharing. IPL is one of the strings congress is pulling to get maximum milage from Sharad Pawar.

My friend, I applaud you for you acute observation. But there is another fine line you are crossing. Well you speak about 92 crores - yes - that is a lot of money. But what if there is a security lapse??? Think about the negative publicity and think about how much more India as a country would lose?

Its not about players security? Its about everybody's security. You can protect VIP/Players/Staffs with the limited security at hand (keeping in mind the resources allocated to the elections), but I doubt it would be enough to comb or secure the stadiums during the event.

So our ex-finance minister (who definitely is more educated and wiser than the two of us) definitely knows and recognises how much he is 'losing' by not having the IPL. But since he is a wise man, his sights are not locked short but in the long term of Indian reliability. That is our strength, and I think we Indians should start using a little more of the brown cells in our heads!!!

Let us say Mr. Chidambaram gives the green light and we have two major events going on at the same time in the country. Now the security apparatus will be stretched beyond their limits. All the terrorist do is to find one loophole and create an havoc. And let us say they do not succeed 99% of the time. But if they succeed even once, then the door to international cricket will be closed for ever. What motivation do you think Mr.Chidambaram has to stop this season's IPL

Where is this money coming from?
by guest on Mar 20, 2009 07:03 PM  | Hide replies

Does Indian public give a damn that this money is finally coming out from our pockets in whatever shape or form? I mean after all companies are sponsoring this event and its cost is gonna reflect back in the prices of their products.
