"No cricketer from Sri Lanka has been included despite winning the world cup in 1996". so how do players who had retired before 1995 could have contributed to this world cup win...simple logic...rediff does it again...

Who cares about ICC and such meaningless lists?
by C Kr on Jun 29, 2009 12:16 PM

Yes, India had no great player anyway until these three. Even they are doubtful (Kapil excepted). India was never a winning team those days with players who only played for themselves. No matchwinners but Kapil.

So is this list a surprise? Those were the days when test matches started at 11, lunch was 1230 - 2p. Indian players ate biryani and fielded sloppily. Then tea break at 330, then stumps at 430. Lots of leisure, even a rest day after day 3.

In one days Gavaskar scored 36* in 60 overs in a WC game v Eng.

It was a sport for fat' as$s, no effort or exertion, at least not by Indians who lost everything those days.

We should not Blame ICC Hall of Fame!
by Suresh Vijayan on Jun 29, 2009 11:05 AM

Hi,

Lets ask to ourselves, do our players deserve to be in Hall of Fame or Hall of Money? The players in the list deserve the respect and must be respected, either we like it or not!

Most of our Celebrity Cricketers as they are popularly known as, have they ever played for Nation? I really dont think, thats why they more focused on CASH RICH IPL and Medal winning events like Commonwealth.

I dont feel any racial issue here, Our people need to wake up! coz BCCI and IPL is very very confident, that they can bet on Indian Mass and no need to bother other issues, coz our Mass are fools, nor the bookies or investors for IPL.

But the results are highly appreciated, people who deserve to be in the fame list have only occupied it.

best Regards/Suresh

In other words

This is just to show that more indians should be on the list.

Sadly more would be on if people like sachin & dravid retire. You cant exclude them from the list but if they keep playing for money like they are it will be another 5 years before they retire & another 10-15 before theyre inducted.

only kapil deserves it
by Nayak on Jun 29, 2009 02:31 AM  | Hide replies

only Kapil Dev deserves it. actually, ICC looks at the true greatness of the player. if that is the case, only Kapil deserves it because he was a great and natural player India produced. after that, if i see any fearless player that is Virendra Sehwag.

rest of the so called great from India are nothing but second class bollywood actors.

Kapil Dev won the world cup by Fluke, Everyone knows that. WI had a bad outing on that day. The WI team later visited india that year and officially 'R@p*ed' Kapil Dev's India. Sehwag is a hathoda champion who can be compared with Afridi. No foot work only reflexes. He will soon lose his reflexes and come down to earth.

The list comprises of Test greats, not also rans. Bedi was the best spinner for India until Kumble arrived. Even after that Bedi was better as he was truly a spinner. The Hall of fame is not just about records its about everything in cricket.

Kapil deserves it but not for his world cup but for his initial years as an all rounder. Kapils final years were agnoy to India as we were waiting for him to complete the record and retire.

I am not about Mumbai vs delhi debate here as there is no point all are Indian players but donot underestimate our super stars of yester years. Don't get carried away by regional bias.
You need to study them and cricket before commenting on them.

Sunny, was undoubtedly one of the best opening batsmen of all time, and probably the best in the post war era. His record speaks for himself, over 10000 runs and 34 centuries. The runs were made against the best bowlers in the world, from the West Indian quick assembly line to the mean speedsters from Down Under to the Pathans from across the border.
Other future players would be Sachin, Dravid and Kumble only..

yeah finals may be fluke.... or little god smiling on our side... but the side we were in fnals... thats a great thing for a outside chance country. His 175, 4 6s to avoid follow on and on top of it 432 Test wickets from a bowler unfriendly country and pitches, keeps him great among the greats.

Andy.. the post doesn't talk about the world cup win.. so I think you are purposely introducing something that will get tongues wagging... I guess that is what your intent of posting your message was...

Andy.. who told you that Bedi was one of the best spinner until Kumble..

Chandra and Prasanna were all time great top class spinners (leg spin/off spin) india has ever produced. Till date no one replaced them (some exceptions were L.Shivaram krishanan and Harbhajan singh)

I will make a list with only Indians on it.
BCCI should just cut some funds flowing to ICC and everything will fall in place.

by arvin g on Jun 29, 2009 01:32 AM

bcci along with asian cricket council should come with a world cricket hall of fame 50 which should include only 2 players each from eng/aus/wi and all others from other test playing nations... with all the money bcci have they should have a gala event for this to give a worldwide media coverage... that will be a slap in the face for racist icc aka idiots cricket council...
